Update from a Neuroscientist on the Waikato family poisoned by wild boar meat .. the anomalies surrounding the official diagnosis

ARTICLE BY Serena Maja* and Michelle Read

“Rehabilitation from sub lethal 1080 poisoning is simple. Time.
Botulism treatment takes a long time, years. Whereas recovery from sub lethal 1080 poisoning is much faster.
This family could have been treated for alzheimers, for mumps, for shellfish poisoning, for botulism, for polio, for meningitis. The results would be the same, they would recover.
The timeline of the recovery is just as diagnostic as the timeline of the illness, and the time line does NOT fit botulism” … Serena Maja, Neuroscientist

The family is facing a massive medical bill after they were made ill following a meal of wild boar.

Officials are still to confirm botulism, but it is the ‘only thing’ they are testing for. And now the report says ‘confirmation will take months’.

ACC has told them they don’t ‘qualify’ for compensation and botulism is not covered by ACC.

We are not making the statement that this is poisoning from pest control operations, but at the same time we find it interesting that the authorities are determined that they have a case of botulism and do not look elsewhere.

The International Society for Infectious Diseases asked on the 18th November for clarification because this is unlikely to be botulism. A number of medical professionals have contacted us within NZ and stated that this family cannot have contracted botulism because of the timing of the onset of symptoms, the symptom of loss of consciousness, and the fact that botulism is not contracted from fresh meat.

However, this family did not receive a lethal dose of poison.

Pig sensitivity to 1080, for example, is estimated at between 0.4mg/kg and 1mg/kg.

Animals rapidly evolve resistance to 1080, and we have used 1080 poison for more than 60 years.

Exposure to sub lethal 1080 doses can lead to protection against 10x the normal LD50.

Therefore, these boar (and we have no real data on boar) may be able to tolerate 4mg/kg and 10mg/kg minimum, before half of them fall over and die.

Human susceptibility is not known. Estimates are between 1mg/kg and 4mg/kg, although we do know that genetic variations in the human glutathione transferase enzyme change sensitivity, i.e. different halotypes/races of humans will experience variations on that sensitivity.

It is not unlikely that the family ate a significant non-lethal dose of fluoroacetate and fluorocitrate (the lethal metabolite of 1080) from poisoned pork.

The onset time of 1080 poisoning is 30 minutes, the symptoms are identical.

Botulism and Botox (botulinum toxin) poisoning do not fit the symptoms at all, either dynamically or by effect.

Tutin poisoning does not fit the observed toxicological profile either.

Why is 1080 not being considered as the primary likely cause? Are we putting our fingers in our ears and refusing to look?

We are dropping ever increasing amounts of the stuff. Two pellets will kill a child. This kind of sub-lethal secondary poisoning is an ever increasing likelihood. We’ve observed it in raptors catching sub-lethally poisoned mammals already.

The test for 1080 poisoning (and fluorocitrate poisoning, 1080 being the delivery mechanism for fluorocitrate) is simple, yet our government insists it is not. NMR spectroscopy is used worldwide to observe either the fluoridated molecules directly, or to assay the metabolic by-products of fluorocitrate poisoning.

Given the amount of 1080 used in NZ, we should have test facilities in every major population centre.

The fact we do not speaks volumes.

“One of the most detailed descriptions of recovery from 1080 poisoning is McTaggart’s (1970) report of a child who ingested rabbit bait: Ten days after ingesting 1080, the boy began to recover during hospitalisation. He was able to keep his eyes open, and to appreciate some movement, but had marked hypertonicity of all limbs with frequent spasms of his arms and legs. At this time he was incapable of spontaneous movement, and remained unable to feed himself for a full two weeks after regaining consciousness. Twenty-four days after he ingested 1080, the boy had regained some range of movement in his arms and was able to recognise familiar people and objects. Ten years later there was evidence of mental retardation with a verbal IQ of 65, he was still unable to walk without crutches, and suffered from tetraplegia, hypertonicity of all limbs, cogwheel rigidity of the wrists, moderate to severe cortical blindness, divergent squint, and epilepsy. It is likely that the mental retardation was the result of brain damage caused by anoxia during periods of fitting (Pridmore 1978), although there is evidence of brain damage resulting directly from fluoroacetate poisoning (Trabes et al 1983). Other patients have experienced a similar prolonged recovery period (5–6 days) (Gajdusek & Luther 1950; Robinson et al 2002) with complete eventual recovery. Pneumonia is a frequent complication of human 1080 poisoning cases (Williams 1948; Brockman et al 1955; Pridmore 1978; Ramirez 1986). While these infec- tions may reflect hospital intervention, it is also possible that infection is promoted because of the increased respi- ratory secretions typical of 1080 exposure (Chenoweth & Gilman 1946; Quin & Clark 1947; Brockman et al 1955; McIlroy 1981, 1982a, 1983, 1984, 1985).”

We are suggesting the cause could be 1080 as the time frame of the symptoms, the symptoms themselves, the time frame of the recovery and the symptoms of the recovery match 1080 poisoning. Doctors didn’t diagnose botulinum toxin, they thought that it might be, and treated as if it was. As yet, the results for the tests which would confirm botulism have not come back, and without those tests, the unusual time frame, unusual symptoms, unusual time of recovery and unusual recovery symptoms, botulism is unlikely. Recovery from non-lethal 1080 poisoning is time – (I’ve quoted the 10 year old boy case which is a perfect exemplar). They could have had limb massage, prayer circles or irrelevant anti-toxin for botox and they would still have recovered in the same way as observed recovery from non-lethal 1080 is normal, it is only if they had had a lethal dose that they wouldn’t have recovered.

As I sometimes add to controversial posts, part of the purpose of this site is to expose lies and corruption and to publish truth that mainstream media will not. If you happen to be pro any topic posted here, there is little point trying to spark up a debate in the attempt to convince myself or others of your view point. I suggest you head to mainstream media where you will find like minds & your posts will almost certainly be published. It also goes without saying, abusive commenters are blocked instantly. The Neuroscientist cited in this particular post wishes to remain anonymous so has used a pseudonym. This is obviously why you will not find the name in a google search however I can assure you that Neuroscientist Serena Maja is real and is a Cambridge Masters. The wish for anonymity is not unusual, and people do contact me from time to time stating the same … for obvious reasons. Recent history has proven that speaking the truth or challenging the status quo these days can incur very unpleasant repercussions. You can accept or reject the information offered in this article as you wish. Nobody is saying it was 1080 that poisoned the family, we are asking the question everybody should be, why is 1080 not being tested for when clearly no firm diagnosis has yet been reached? I have added one response by Serena who I’ve made aware of some of the questions that have come in. And on that note, the questioners clearly have not read the article properly as most of the queries are answered in the article itself anyway.  EnvirowatchRangitikei

GM Food Crops Illegally Growing in India: The Criminal Plan to Change the Genetic Core of the Nation’s Food System

The GM Contamination Register database is run by Genewatch and Greenpeace and contains cases of genetically modified (GM) contamination dating from 1997. The authors of a 2014 paper, published in the International Journal of Food Contamination, analysed 400 or so cases in the database by crop and country.

GM rice accounted for about a third of contamination cases, despite the fact there is officially no GM rice grown anywhere in the world. They also focused on cases of contamination arising from unauthorised GM crops: those without any authorisation for commercial growing anywhere in the world. Nine cases were discovered of GM contamination of these unauthorised (non-commercialised) GM crops that haven’t undergone any environmental or food safety analysis. The authors argue that once GM contamination has happened, it can be difficult to contain.

Don Westfall, biotech industry consultant and vice-president of Promar International back in 2001, was at the time quoted by the Toronto Star (9 January 2001) as saying that the hope of the GM industry is that over time the market is so flooded with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) that there’s nothing you can do about it; you just sort of surrender.

It is not just a vague hope. It is an intentional strategy.

Hungry Bees 1080 Poison Risk to NZ Honey Says DoC

Published on Nov 18, 2017

1080 poison is a broad-spectrum pesticide spread across New Zealand’s forests and waterways to kill possums and rats, but insects like bees are also falling to this in-discriminant mass-poisoning campaign.

A New form of Botulism or something more deadly? (the case of the poisoned Waikato family)

Tuesday 21 November 2017, 2:15PM
By J. James

“…in the process of elimination the doctors think it is definitely some sort of poisoning within the boar itself so maybe the boar has consumed poison before it was shot down and so whatever was in its blood has found itself in to theirs ….”

With the recent case of poisoned pig meat causing serious health affects in three members of one New Zealand family the world is watching and asking are we seeing a new form of botulism?

PubMed ProMED – is the International society for Infectious diseases and has this to say  -(find it at the bottom of the page)

”…In summary, if this is proven to be due to botulism, by identification of the toxin in either the patients and/or in the food, the description of the time of onset of the symptoms would make this reportable as 15-30 mins post ingestion is highly unusual…”…

In short they are questioning if this is indeed botulism given the symptoms or even a new strain.

However, they do not know New Zealand’s history of dropping a deadly poison into its eco system a poison so deadly there is no antidote – a poison that kills anything that breaths oxygen and that can be up taken by both plants and animals in sub lethal doses.

sodium fluoroacetate better known in New Zealand as compound 1080 is  indiscriminately aerially dropped out of helicopters throughout New Zealand’s pristine eco system and water ways.

interestingly in a Radio NZ interview – family friend and church member Joji Varghese, had this to say

..“…in the process of elimination the doctors think it is definitely some sort of poisoning within the boar itself so maybe the boar has consumed poison before it was shot down and so whatever was in its blood has found itself in to theirs ….”

He goes on to say that without a proper toxicology report no one can be sure and that the toxicology report is expected shortly

Social media is abuzz with theories – I am not saying here that it is sodium fluoroacetate but it is certainly something to look at because of its ubiquitous presence within the entire eco system of New Zealand

It serves no one to obscure all possibilities because one might upset a million dollar industry.

It is not uncommon nor is it unknown as this study shows

Sodium fluoroacetate residue in feral pig (Sus scrofa) carcasses – Is it a significant secondary poisoning hazard?

...”….Feral pig control in Australia is heavily reliant upon poisoning with sodium fluoroacetate (1080) bait. Tissue residue levels may be considerable and pose a potential risk to non-target consumers. Tissue/fluid samples (liver, kidney, stomach, stomach contents, small intestine, large intestine, muscle and eye) from lethally poisoned feral pigs were removed and assayed for fluoroacetate concentration. The digestive system, specifically the stomach contents and stomach, consistently contained the greatest concentration of 1080 within individuals. Few non-target animals apart from introduced mammals (fox, dog, cat) appear at risk from consuming muscle tissue, however, many native species may be at risk from consuming visceral tissue (especially stomach and contents). The practical risk is probably low and reduced given the rapid decomposition of carcasses in the field. Regular consumption of poisoned pork may exceed the recommended daily intake of fluoroacetate and be a risk to human health, but there is a low probability of this occurring…”..

Pigs can also eat deer or possums that have been killed by compound 1080 and gain a sub lethal dose from that

Research is showing that one of the fingerprints to look for is fluorocitrate

What I am learning through others in the Stop the drops movement is that Sodium Fluoracetate metabolises into FluoroCITRATE or is a metabolite of compound 1080.

…”….It has been known for many years that fluoroacetate and fluorocitrate when metabolized are highly toxic….”…

We know that – 1 part per trillion in water can disrupt hormones  and be uptaken by plants

In a separate study – a vet is calling for an investigation into a toxin in wild pigs that affects dogs and might also make humans sick. – which begs the question – might this also be connected with compound 1080 being up taken by plants and eaten by pigs

compound 1080 is an indiscriminate killer with no antidote with potentially harmful and life threating sub lethal does –

There is very limiting independent study done on what it is actually doing in the environment as this report shows

A Critical Look at Aerial-Dropped, Poison-Laced Food in New Zealand’s Forest Ecosystems

We all await the toxicology report and pray for the full recovery of the family

Reverse 28 health conditions when you cut out GMOs — researchers tracked the health benefits

(Natural News) You might be aware that organic food is better for you than GMO options, but sometimes the price difference can be prohibitive. If you’ve ever stood in the produce section of the supermarket and asked yourself if the higher price tag on organic offerings is worth it, the results of a peer-reviewed study published recently in the International Journal of Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine will probably help make that decision a lot easier.

The survey of 3,256 people found that 28 conditions could be reversed by switching to a mostly non-GMO and organic diet. This research is consistent with physician reports that show the power of making this type of dietary improvement.

The respondents were asked, among other questions, what conditions or symptoms they have seen improve since making the switch to a GMO-free diet. For each of the 28 symptoms listed, they chose between “some mild improvement,” “moderate improvement,” “significant improvement,” “nearly gone,” “complete recovery” and “not applicable,” which was the default.

Some of the most common conditions to note improvements from making the switch to non-GMO were digestive problems like fatigue and leaky gut, along with obesity.

In total, 85.2 percent of respondents with digestive problems noted they were severely reduced or reversed by switching to non-GMO food. More than 60 percent with fatigue and low energy reported improvements, while 54.6 percent said it turned around weight problems such as being obese or overweight. This is not surprising when you consider that a GMO diet has been linked to excessive cell growth in the lining of the stomach and intestines along with other physiological issues.

More than half of people said a non-GMO diet eliminated that feeling of “brain fog” that is familiar to many people, while a similar amount noted that the change helped them avoid food allergies and sensitivities.

Mood problems also benefited from the switch, with 51.1 percent saying it helped with anxiety and depression, and 48.1 percent noting improvements in memory and concentration.

Meanwhile, 47.5 percent of people said their joint pain improved, and 46.6 percent said a non-GMO diet meant the end of their seasonal allergies.

Family face permanent disablity after eating wild pig

Very sad for this family. It will be interesting to see what the reports say. A sign perhaps of caution in eating wild food … given our wild places are being, and have for a long time, seriously poisoned.

Three people hospitalized in the Waikato, New Zealand, after eating wild boar may suffer permanent damage as a result.

The family are being treated for suspected food poisoning at Waikato Hospital after consuming the meat, believed to be contaminated by an unknown substance or bacteria.

Shibu Kochummen, wife Subi Babu and mother Alekutty Daniel were found unconscious by emergency staff at their Putaruru house on Friday.

Mr Kochummen collapsed while calling emergency services for medical help.

Family friend Joji Varghese told Newshub poisoning may have occurred after the victims ate contaminated pig.

“Shibu and some of his friends… went hunting for some wild boar,” he said.

“They cooked and consumed it on Friday evening for dinner. Within half an hour they began throwing up. Shibu tried ringing the emergency services.

“Someone turned up at their door and found all three adults unconscious.”

Mr Varghese says the trio are now in a vegetative state, and doctors are determining the cause of the incident.

“They have been diagnosed with food poisoning after having consumed contaminated wild boar,” Mr Varghese said on Facebook.

“The nature of contamination is yet to be determined. Doctors are puzzled by the severity of the condition, as such a potent contaminant has not been reported in NZ since 1983.”

He says the effects of the contamination may lead to irreversible damage.

“We do not know what was in that boar. The tests – the toxicology reports – still have not come out,” he says.

“Currently all three are conscious but they’re not aware of their surroundings. They spasm often, so they’re moving involuntarily. There’s no response to proper stimulus. Doctors fear it will lead to some form of permanent disability.”

He’s calling for aid from New Zealanders to help the family, who have two children and face a difficult recovery.

“I have had detailed conversations with the doctors treating them and they fear the worst,” he wrote on Facebook. “They reckon it will take up to two months for the poison to be washed out of their body.

“Only then can they start to recover. Even if they recover consciousness, they may suffer permanent damage to their bodies, such as partial or total paralysis or tremors.

“There will be muscle wastage, which will require intensive physiotherapy. All of this could take up to six months or more.

“Their road to recovery is a long and rocky one.”

The Waikato DHB says Mr Kochummen and Ms Daniel are stable in a ward, while Ms Babu is in a serious condition in a high dependency unit.

“We are still investigating potential sources for the illness in this case, of which wild pork meat is one,” says Waikato DHB medical officer of health Dr Richard Vipond.

“We do not have any evidence to determine any broader contaminated game meat or that there is a risk to public health.”

A detailed toxicology report is expected on Friday.

Microwave ovens ‘fluke’ your heart while they ‘nuke’ your food – alarming studies reveal microwave frequency radiation can affect heart and blood

Such harmless benign looking little appliances, and so handy for our insanely sped up nowadays world. I’ve been laughed at for suggesting microwaves are harmful … that Russia banned them at one stage … thankfully the science is emerging. I first learned of the health risks from a nurse who was told in training (UK) not to heat baby formula in a microwave as it kills certain vitamins. From that I smelled a rat as the saying goes. Turns out a man who researched them by testing for vitamin content in food cooked in a microwave & food not, that definitely they do kill your nutrients. Needless to say his research was quickly debunked & hidden a long way under the proverbial carpet. Enough to put me off using one anyway. Err on the side of safety surely. I know a few folk who don’t use these anyway & I haven’t owned one myself for a few years now. As always you need to find this information out for yourself. Mainstream won’t tell you any time soon. It means fewer sales, less profits and so on. Because as you’ve possibly noted lately, for the last decade or more, that profits are more important than you or your health.
EnvirowatchRangitikei

(Natural News) Many health conscious consumers rarely, if ever, microwave their food anymore, but when they do, they probably do not realize that they’re not just destroying the nutritional value of the food, but the “nuker” is negatively impacting their hearts.

The typical microwave frequency radiation coming from “nukers” seen in the average American kitchen is more than enough to screw with your heart rate and your heart rate variability. In fact, just 2.4 GHz, the average frequency produced by microwave ovens (and WiFi routers, by the way) can cause immediate and drastic changes to the human heart.

According to Dr. Magda Havas of Trent University, people exposed to radiation for just three minutes at 2.4-GHz can experience severe reactions in heart rate changes and altered heart rate variations, indicating an alarm response to stress, also called electrohypersensitivity (EHS) or rapid aging syndrome. This has been studied for decades. The response includes heart palpitations, clumping of red blood cells and fluctuations of the parasympathetic nervous system typical of a “fight-or-flight” response.

Dr. Havas also revealed that microwave ovens can lead to blood sugar spikes connected with diabetes. This usually happens when people stand within three feet of the oven while it’s running, like when anxious eaters park themselves directly in front of the microwave oven while waiting for those last few seconds to finish “nuking” their food or beverage.

Unequivocal evidence that microwave frequency radiation affects human heart

For years, bogus research and microwave oven fanatics have claimed that microwave ovens do not produce any immediate biological effects because the ordinary household level is far below federal guidelines. Most of those studies were conducted prior to the new millennium, but now environmental radiation is coming at us from multiple sources, including electromagnetic devices, laptops, WiFi and mobile phones.

Rare & deadly cancers found downstream from Canada’s oil sands – the ongoing rape & pillage of the environment by corporations at the hosts’ expense

Study links oilsands pollution to higher cancer rates

“Cancer occurrence increased significantly with participant employment in the oilsands and with the increased consumption of traditional foods and locally caught fish,” said the report.

It also found total levels of carcinogens in the traditionally hunted foods were higher compared with similar studies around the world…”  thestar.com

EDMONTON—A new study by two Alberta First Nations and University of Manitoba scientists says there is a link between oilsands pollutants and higher levels of heavy metals in wildlife, and higher cancer rates in residents.

“There’s something unique that is happening in Fort Chipewyan,” Stéphane McLachlan, the lead researcher from the university, told a news conference Monday. “It’s a situation that is alarming and demands attention.”

The report — titled Environmental and Human Health Implications of Athabasca Oil Sands — is the result of three years of research. It was funded by the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation and the Mikisew Cree First Nation.

The study says it found 23 cases of cancer in 94 participants.

“Cancer occurrence increased significantly with participant employment in the oilsands and with the increased consumption of traditional foods and locally caught fish,” said the report.

It also found total levels of carcinogens in the traditionally hunted foods were higher compared with similar studies around the world.

But it found the dietary intake was low because community members were turning away from the traditional foods in favour of store-bought sustenance.

The methodology combined scientific methods with anecdotal information from community members.

10 REASONS CANADA NEEDS TO RETHINK THE TAR SANDS

Kevin Grandia, DeSmogBlog
Waking Times

As a Canadian it blows my mind that we can have the second largest deposits of oil in the world, but our government remains billions in debt and one in seven Canadian children live in poverty.

I feel like we are being played for fools here in Canada, because foreign owned oil companies like ExxonMobil,

British Petroluem and PetroChina (71% of oil sands production is owned by foreign shareholders) are making billions exporting raw tar sand from our country, while us citizens are dealing with all the nasty downsides.

Time for a tar sands reality check.

Here’s the top 10 reasons Canada needs to rethink their unrelenting desire to expand tar sands operations:

1. The Canada tar sands isn’t just an environmental issue, it is also a social justice, human rigths and health issue. A higher incidence of rare and deadly cancers has been documented in First Nations communities downstream of the oil sands by doctors, the Alberta Health Department and First Nations since 2007.

2. Like birds? Me too. Did you know that over 30 million birds will be lost over the next 20 years due to tar sands development?

3. 95% of the water used in tar sands surface mining is so polluted it has to be stored in toxic sludge pits. That’s 206,000 litres of toxic waste discharged every day.

4. Canada’s tar sands make Hoover Dam look like lego blocks, because we are home to 2 of the top 3 largest dams in the world. The dams are used to hold back all that toxic sludge produced by mining tar sands.

First kumara, then potatoes, now pumpkin prices are sky high … the uncomfortable truth about the control of your food supply

“…control food and you control the people …”

Kissinger: “Control oil and you control nations; control food and you control the people.” US strategy deliberately destroyed family farming in the US and abroad and led to 95% of all grain reserves in the world being under the control of six multinational agribusiness corporations….SOURCE

Henry Kissinger is on record as saying that. Now why would  Kissinger want to control people? If you’ve never pondered that question you’ve probably been listening to mainstream media which would’ve told you he never said it and in fact nobody wants to control people & such thoughts are the product of the conspiracy machine. He’s on metabunk as having not said it. Not the place to look for truth. There are sites like that Rat-Tumor-Monsanto-GMO-Cancer-Study-3-Wide2.jpgthat say Professor Seralini’s research on glyphosate (the rats with very large tumours that Monsanto didn’t find because they only tested their rats for the required 90 days) is fiction. If you find something there or on similar sites you can be sure there’s a likelihood it is true.

As Noam Chomsky pointed out, in both “old” and “new” world orders the central goal has pivoted around the issue of control: “Control of the population is the major task of any state that is dominated by particular sectors of the domestic society and therefore functions primarily in their interest …”[1] Such “particular sectors” as referred to are the minority elite, who pursue controlling strategies to “engineer” nation and international affairs in line with their aims. And these aims are for the most part based on greed and power; and the need to keep the masses contented and docile.  SOURCE

Continuing with the food topic, did you notice the sequence of price rises? Here in NZ, first kumara, then potatoes, now pumpkin. I saw a blogger post a pumpkin with $17 on it (NZ) recently. A month ago I bought one for $3. Just as I was telling my family after the potato price hike, buy pumpkins when they’re cheap and add them to your mashed potatoes. (Along with telling them, grow your own potatoes). Did you also notice that in between the potato and the pumpkin price hike came the introduction of … ta da … GM potatoes? Quite strategically done I thought. And you can bet I’m sure those potatoes when they’re grown here in (not) clean green, (not) GE free NZ, that they’ll be cheap as chips no pun intended but it does fit quite nicely – given chips are quite a staple, as are the other items on the now outrageously dear and out-of-the-reach-of-many-families aforementioned staples. Think potato chips for instance, and fish and chips. And finally, yes, it’s the weather that’s created this problem but look who has a hand in the weather as well. It’s well documented.

And finally, whether deliberate or not, you need to read Susan George’s ‘How the Other Half Dies’ (free pdf) on hunger and who’s causing it in the so called undeveloped countries that were very rich in resources when the colonizer ‘found’ them. (For other good reads on topic see our resources page at the main menu. And watch ‘The Corporation’ movie on the Corporations pages for an insight into how corporations work for themselves and not you).

Time to grow your own food and stop supporting corrupt corporations. Or buy from your local farmer market.

https://www.naturalnews.com/2017-10-25-toxic-food-is-killing-humanity-one-fifth-of-global-deaths-now-linked-to-processed-junk-food-and-toxic-ingredients.html

(Natural News) A new study conducted at the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington (HealthData.org) and published in The Lancet medical journal finds that a shocking 20 percent of global deaths are caused by toxic foods, junk foods, processed foods and harmful food ingredients. In essence, the study reveals that the toxic food industry is now about as dangerous as Big Tobacco.

As covered in The Guardian:

The study, based at the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, compiles data from every country in the world and makes informed estimates where there are gaps… Diet is the second highest risk factor for early death after smoking. The problem is often seen as the spread of western diets, taking over from traditional foods in the developing world.

In other words, all the toxic food ingredients, processed foods, junk foods and fast foods that we’ve been warning you about for years are now being recognized by the science establishment to be one of the leading killers of human beings across our planet. Many of these foods are saturated with glyphosate and pesticides, and an increasing number are also genetically engineered. The food industry, in other words, is about as dangerous to human health as the tobacco industry, yet while Big Tobacco is highly regulated, there are virtually no enforced regulations that limit heavy metals, pesticides or dangerous chemical ingredients (like aspartame) in the U.S. food supply.

Developments in Chemical Biotechnology Continue to Threaten Environmental and Human Health

Following our recent approval in clean green, GE free Enzed of GM potato crops this is a bit of a farce given Helen Clarke (Labour note for those who are rejoicing at the other wing of the same bird that’s currently now in) approved the growing to harvest of GM corn in 2000 or thereabouts. It was uncovered, having already been planted, then ordered to be pulled up by Clarke who then flip flopped after a bit of corporate persuasion. So here it is again, some 17 odd years later … yes it is farcical. They’ve been tampering with the genes of all sorts including animals, all along. This kind of food has already been independently researched & found seriously wanting. Eat it at your own risk I would say. EnvirowatchRangitikei

Story at-a-glance

  • Corporate GMO propaganda is hitting the big screen. Forty-five scientists, academics and writers have signed a statement calling the food industry-funded film, “Food Evolution,” a piece of corporate propaganda that misrepresents the GMO issue
  • EPA has approved RNAi corn for human consumption, which is based on “gene silencing” technology. Research suggests RNA may have the ability to silence genes inside your body as well
  • A new generation of GMO crops resistant to dicamba is wreaking havoc across the U.S., as neighbors to farms growing dicamba-resistant crops report massive crop destruction from dicamba drift

By Dr. Mercola

Pesticides are taking a major toll on health across the globe. According to a recent United Nations (UN) report,1 pesticides are responsible for 200,000 acute poisoning deaths each year, and chronic exposure has been linked to cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, hormone disruption, developmental disorders and sterility.2

In 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a research arm of the World Health Organization and the “gold standard” in carcinogenicity research, found glyphosate — the active ingredient in Roundup, the most widely used herbicide in the world — is a probable human carcinogen.3,4 As of July 2017, glyphosate is listed as a known carcinogen under California’s Proposition 65,5 which means products containing glyphosate must carry a cancer warning label.

Pesticides like Roundup also threaten the health of the soil, thereby threatening the very future of agriculture itself, as healthy soils are key for growing food.6 So grave are the concerns over the health and environmental effects of pesticides, the UN’s report proposes a global treaty to phase them out and transition to a more sustainable agricultural system.

All of this is terrible news for the chemical industry in general, and Monsanto in particular. Last year, Monsanto accepted a $66 billion takeover bid from Bayer AG,7,8,9 which would make the new entity the largest seed and pesticide company in the world. The merger is expected to be finalized by the end of 2017. However, as noted in the Bloomberg video report above, suspicions of carcinogenicity now pose a serious threat to this deal.

Court Will Determine Roundup’s Role in Cancer

Plaintiffs10 in a class-action lawsuit against Monsanto claim Roundup caused or contributed to their non-Hodgkin lymphoma.11,12 The outcome of this lawsuit may influence Bayer’s decision to acquire Monsanto or back out of the deal. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) reevaluation of glyphosate’s toxicity may also have a bearing on the planned merger, although it will not influence the litigation against Monsanto.

U.S. District Court Judge Vince Chhabria, who presides over multi-district litigation currently involving 310 cancer victims’ lawsuits against Monsanto, has stated that the scientific evidence presented at trial is what will settle the question of whether glyphosate can cause cancer — not the determination by the IARC or the EPA. According to Bloomberg:13

“Chhabria has allowed the plaintiffs wide latitude to collect evidence on Monsanto’s health-effects research over the years, which the plaintiffs hope will show the company manipulated the data.

In March he unsealed dozens of Monsanto’s confidential documents for the public to see. The records show internal deliberations on how to present the science on glyphosate’s health impacts and manage a global public-relations campaign to assure consumers and regulators that Roundup is safe.”

EPA Has a History of Protecting Chemical Industry

The litigation has brought to light evidence showing how the EPA has colluded with Monsanto to protect the company’s interests. For example, email correspondence reveals Jess Rowland — who was the associate director of the EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs and a key author of the EPA’s controversial glyphosate report — helped stop a glyphosate investigation by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) on Monsanto’s behalf.14,15

“Growing Your Own Food Is Like Printing Your Own Money” – Avoid GMOs & Do It

And yes, that garden on the header image is my old garden … I don’t garden as much these days (other priorities) but I buy organic or from local gardeners… EnvirowatchRangitikei

Vanessa, a blogger from Taihape turned her parents front garden into a food space, pictured above, especially to show folks where food comes from … not necessarily the supermarket. Check out her blog HERE.

It’s well documented how harmful GM food is for your health (see our GMO pages) and it’s being foisted upon us whether we like it or not. Whether we protest, make submissions, voice our opinions etc etc or not, our voices are virtually ignored these days. Our current govt/corporations are determined to have us eat their products & in many cases we already are because they are not required to label their wares. However you slice & dice this it is downright fascist. We are forced to drink fluoride, chlorine and other unknown substances in our water (or spend a fortune filtering or distilling ourselves), to eat our mainstream veg and fruit that are sprayed to the hilt with a raft of chemicals and poisons (unknown to most purchasers because again no requirement to label them as sprayed or with what) … and unless we buy organic at often treble the price. Our meat is not exempt, just observe all the nice yellowy fields around the countryside, these are sprayed with Roundup that contains Glyphosate & is recommended by at least one I know of, agricultural text books, being as they say quite harmless. As harmless as dish liquid farmers tell me with a smile and as if I have two heads for even questioning their wisdom (which they acquired from Monsanto, no questions asked). These farmers spray it over everything. They love it. One proudly told me when the soil’s plowed under it’s perfectly safe for the stock to eat the grass that grows there. They think because you don’t drop dead on the spot it really IS harmless. Nobody bothers to look at the independent research or consider the LONG TERM effects. Anyway there is plenty of info on all of that, including the independent research, on our Glyphosate pages.

The point of this post before I get too carried away was to highlight the fact you can grow your own uncontaminated food, even in small spaces. Google that and there are many articles on gardens in small high rise apartments even. Nothing’s impossible. There are some other ideas on our Food pages also.

Changing The World
Garden by Garden!

“Surely by now there can be few here who still believe the purpose of government is to protect us from the destructive activities of corporations.
At last most of us must understand that the opposite is true:
that the primary purpose of government is to protect the destroyers of our Earth, our Home from the outrage of injured citizens.

If we do not resist using whatever means necessary, we condemn ourselves, our children and future generations to trying to exist on a lifeless planet.

Make no mistake, we are in a fight for our very survival.”

their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny.”

Glyphosate with your juice then? found in 5 Major US Orange Juice Brands

This is info from the US so the juices are not necessarily available here in NZ. The brand names are familiar though. I learned not so long ago from a contact that growers they knew who grew for export sprayed glyphosate (in Roundup) around their orange trees so the product goes up the roots and into the fruit of course. How could it not? That destroyed all my hope of eliminating by peeling. This product is so invasive it’s been found in breast milk and urine. Kiwis love it and slather it all over everything. Including the authorities who spray it relentlessly over the roadsides to keep it all TIDY. Why? Small wonder one in three of we humans are dying off with cancer.
EnvirowatchRangitikei

From healthfreedomidaho.org

Oranges are NON GMO. They have a thick skin and glyphosate isn’t used on the citrus trees themselves. So WHY did five major brands all test positive for glyphosate in their products. According to citrus farmers, they spray the weed killer between the rows of trees. The average person in America consumes  2.7 gallons of orange juice and 3 pounds of oranges each year. “100% Pure Orange Juice” is a common claim used by many juice brands that allow consumers to feel safe when serving it to their families on a daily basis. However, recent testing revealed that every one of the five top orange juice brands Moms Across America sent to an accredited lab tested positive for glyphosate weed killer. Its time to let the corporations know that we don’t want to drink glyphosate!

NZ Food Standards Has Approved GE Potatoes … Ignoring the Health Risks!

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), a trans-Tasman regulatory body, has approved 6 lines of GE potatoes (A1139) carrying genes from viruses and bacteria to stop discoloration and alter vital nutritional components [1]. The NZ Minister for Food Safety has let down NZ consumers yet again by failing to carry out a thorough public safety evaluation.

The joint submission from GE-Free NZ and Soil and Health highlighted many studies that show harm from eating GE foods, which FSANZ has dismissed and ignored. [2]

The FSANZ decision states, “No public health and safety concerns have been identified in relation to food derived from the potatoes developed by the Applicant.” This statement is highly misleading and contravenes a “duty of care” to the consumer. FSANZ openly acknowledges it does not require feeding trials or genomics testing.

“How can FSANZ give consumers an assurance of safety when they do not require any animal or human feeding studies? There is no evidence that the potatoes are safe to eat,” said Claire Bleakley, president of GE-Free NZ.

Are there Genetically Engineered Foods in NZ?

Read ‘Seeds of Distrust’ by Nicky Hager on the story of the GE COVER UP Kiwis. They planted many crops of GE corn throughout our clean green paradise and it was left to full harvest so ‘no worries’ then by the esteemed leaders about cross contamination to other NON GE crops. EnvirowatchRangitikei

From nzhealth.net.nz

Dangers of Genetically Engineered Foods

Genetically engineered foods containing genes derived from animals, fish, insects and bacteria are now being imported into New Zealand. The genetic changes that have been made to these foods are completely different to those resulting from traditional breeding methods. Yet, the import and sale of these foods is being permitted without proper assessment of the risks and without adequately informing the public, even though many scientists say that genetically modified foods could cause serious damage to health and the environment. Genetic technology has already caused human fatalities, new toxins and allergies, soil infertility, animal ill health, financial losses for farmers, and environmental damage in the US.

The process of genetic engineering introduces dangerous new allergens and fatal toxins into foods that were previously naturally safe. Already, one genetically engineered soybean was found to cause severe allergic reactions, and bacteria genetically engineered to produce large amounts of the food supplement tryptophan, have produced toxic contaminants that killed 37 people and permanently disabled 1,500 in USA.

It is estimated that about 57% of research by biotechnology companies is on the development of herbicide-resistant plants and that this will lead to increased use of herbicides, resulting in even higher concentrations of chemicals in food and in the water run-off from the land. Other dangers include the creation of herbicide-resistant weeds, the spread of diseases across species barriers. The artificially induced traits and inevitable.

Imperfections will be passed to all subsequent generations and to related and unrelated organisms. They can never be recalled or contained. The consequences are incalculable.

What foods are here already?

Genetically modified foods (GMFs) available, or about to appear, in New Zealand shops include tomatoes, yeast, corn, and soya (which is used in many processed foods, such as bread, pasta, confectionery, ice cream, pies, biscuits, margarine, meat products and vegetarian meat substitutes).

Genetically modified organisms are also used to produce cheeses and many other processed foods. But this is just the beginning. In a few years, if transnational biotech companies are allowed a free hand, it may be almost impossible to find natural food. GMFs area also reaching NZ supermarkets because they are being introduced in USA Canada and Japan far more freely and are entering the food chain through global trade. Over 4,000 field projects are in progress worldwide, so basically the market is about to be flooded with genetically modified products.

New ANZFA rules bypass New Zealand sovereignty

Genetically Modified foods and food additives will be sold in New Zealand without labelling and without warning the public because they have been approved by a small committee based in Canberra. New arrangements introduced under CER, effective from July 1st 1996, mean that decisions about New Zealand food standards are now made by the Australia New Zealand Food Authority (ANZFA), a committee on which New Zealand has representation equivalent to that of ‘other Australian States’.

New research finds daily consumption of citrus fruits minimizes your risk of dementia

Good news with dementia related illness on the rise, with the age of sufferers getting much lower I notice…

From (NaturalHealth365) New research is indicating that eating more oranges, grapefruits and other citrus fruits could help to offset the effects of age-related cognitive impairment and dementia. The research was conducted by scientists at Tohuku University in Japan.

Keep in mind (no pun intended), that these benefits of eating citrus fruits were found to be substantial. In fact, there was as much as a 23 percent average risk reduction for getting Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Not bad, when you consider the alternative of eating unhealthy foods, less brain function and the final years of life on all sorts of ineffective pharmaceutical drugs for dementia.

Daily consumption of citrus fruits minimize your risk of dementia

The study looked at over 13,000 older and elderly adults and tracked their diet and brain health for as long as seven years. The subjects were assessed based upon their rate of consumption of citrus fruits during their adult years and whether or not they developed dementia or related types of cognitive impairment.

The researchers found a direct correlation between eating citrus fruits frequently and preserving memory and brain health. Those who ate oranges, grapefruits, limes or lemons daily were found to be 23 percent less likely to develop dementia than those consuming citrus fruits just once a week or less frequently. Those who ate citrus fruits less than weekly were at far higher risk for a reduction in cognitive functioning as they aged.

Fact: Up to 50 percent of adults over age 85 are afflicted with dementia

Dementia currently affects around 1 in 8 Americans over the age of 65. After the age of 85, this rate increases by up to 50 percent. Yet, some research indicates that dementia rates have been falling in the U.S. and other Western countries since the year 2000. (although, personally, I have my doubts)

5 Health Benefits of Mushrooms You May not be Aware Of

Eating (& enjoying) more mushrooms of late has led me to take a look at their nutritional value. Their Vitamin D content as well as absorption of is fascinating. Plus other benefits as outlined in these two excellent articles.

Nutritional value and health benefits

From medicalnewstoday.com

Mushrooms are classified as vegetables in the food world, but they are not technically plants. They belong to the fungi kingdom. Although they are not vegetables, mushrooms provide several important nutrients.

The key to getting enough vitamins and minerals in the diet is to eat a colorful variety of fruits and vegetables. In many cases, a food that lacks color also lacks necessary nutrients, but edible mushrooms, which are commonly white, prove quite the contrary.

This feature is part of a collection of Medical News Today articles on the health benefits of popular foods. It provides a nutritional breakdown of mushrooms and an in-depth look at their possible health benefits, how to incorporate more mushrooms into your diet and any potential health risks associated with their consumption.

5 Health Benefits of Mushrooms

Increase your vitamin D

Yes, vitamin D! Mushrooms are the only fruit or vegetable source of this critical vitamin. Like humans, mushrooms produce vitamin D when in sunlight. Exposing them to high levels of ultraviolet B just before going to market converts more of the plant sterol ergosterol into the so-called sunshine vitamin. In the U.S., portobellos fortified with vitamin D are already being sold, with a three-ounce (85-gram) serving providing about 400 IU of vitamin D (Osteoporosis Canada recommends that adults under 50 get 400 to 1,000 IU daily). William Stevens, CEO of the trade organization Mushrooms Canada, says, “A couple of Canadian producers are already testing this procedure.” He adds that “high D” or “sunshine” mushrooms should be in stores here in about six months or so.

NZ’s whitebait species will be totally extinct by 2034, warn environmental scientists

Header Photo Credit: Wikipedia (white baiting net on Hutt River NZ)

So the whitebait are declining our esteemed experts notice. Note, as always with mainstream, they doctor up aka re frame the terminology to make the information more palatable. For example the term “pollution” has become “declining water quality” which is, as we’ve been seeing for at least a century now, human sewage discharged into the waterways, industrial discharge from chemical factories and farming run off including pesticides, fertilizers and animal excrement, as well as the trampling of the edges of the waterways which whitebait need to spawn“. This pollution has all resulted in waterways that are too trashed & fouled for any living organism … and this is re framed as “a reduction in habitat”. Those terms are less distasteful than just plain “shit in the water”. It takes the spotlight off the main polluters also, these are industries run by corporations largely and we need to stay in bed with those because after all economic development is a priority over environment …. as we all know. This is also known as ‘sustainable development’. ‘Yeah right” I hear you say & I totally agree. Sustainable development is a scam right out of Agenda 21 now 2030 (the updated more fascist version, (see also Agenda 21/30 in NZ). And you’re thinking ‘fascist’ is rather extreme a term … not if you really look hard. And especially if you’ve ever tried to stop this pollution. In some countries you could be murdered for such a ‘crime’ as exposing polluting practices, however here in New Zealand (clean and green, GE free, corruption free, nuclear free and so on is the general fake spin) we’re a little more covert than that.   Note in their list of possible solutions … “ending commercial whitebaiting, introducing catch allowances for recreational whitebaiters and an independent review of the long-term sustainability of the fishery …” they all focus on fishing and nothing much about addressing the “declining water quality”.
If you watch the following video from the Horowhenua you’ll hear also the commentary on how the whitebait breeding grounds are being destroyed by dairy beef cattle in un fenced water ways. (Dairy cattle are not allowed in the waterways, dairy beef cattle are … go figure on that one, courtesy of our Regional Council).

NZ’s whitebait species will be totally extinct by 2034, warn environmental scientists

From TVNZ.co.nz

Environmental scientists are warning the government that all five native whitebait species will become extinct by 2034 if action isn’t taken immediately.

Massey University’s Kyleisha Foote and Pierce McNie presented a petition with more than 3000 signatures to the Primary Production Select Committee this morning.

They say commercial whitebait fishing, declining water quality, and a reduction in habitat are behind the falling number of whitebait.

According to the scientists, without immediate action one of the five whitebait species could be extinct within three years and all five will be extinct in 2034.

“We have known about the decline for a long time yet there has been no change in the management of the fishery in the last 20 years,” said Foote.

“We’re thinking if we don’t do anything now there’s going to be no whitebait left for recreation whitebaiters to go and be able to catch a feed.”

They made a raft of recommendations including ending commercial whitebaiting, introducing catch allowances for recreational whitebaiters and an independent review of the long-term sustainability of the fishery.

Cup of chemicals anybody? to all the lovers of Earl Grey tea – the REAL bergamot content is ‘very small’ & the rest is chemical & natural flavouring

For years I’ve enjoyed Earl Grey tea. In fact it was the first non-mainstream tea I ever took a liking to, and that’s going back forty odd years now. A dear friend introduced me to it and I’ve bought it ever since.  Since it has always been very expensive compared to your common breakfast teas, almost double the price, it was reserved to enjoy only on the odd occasion. For a few years I didn’t drink it at all because my very tight budget just didn’t allow it. The expense I believe comes from the addition of subtly flavoured bergamot, an oil extract from the bergamot orange. “Citrus bergamia, the bergamot orange (pronounced /ˈbɜːrɡəˌmɒt/), is a fragrant citrus fruit the size of an orange, with a green color similar to a lime.” (Wikipedia)

Citrus_bergamia_-_Köhler–s_Medizinal-Pflanzen-184.jpg
Bergamot Orange [wikipedia]
So a year or two back I began buying it again and noticed it wasn’t as strong. It took two bags to taste the bergamot. Or making a smaller cup. This led me to start reading the fine print. Yes it was labeled ‘light strength’. I contacted the Twinings Facebook page and asked what was up with the ‘light’? The answer was a little vague and I couldn’t really figure out what it meant. I did complain about the fact you could hardly taste the bergamot. Then recently I noticed a package change and the bags were sealed in a foil bag. The bergamot flavour was stronger and on examining the new pack it said 5% bergamot flavouring whereas the old packet said 3.5%. Yay, I said to myself. They’ve strengthened it. Then I began to ponder. ‘Flavouring’? Surely not? So I contacted the Facebook page again and asked is the flavouring real bergamot or imitation? I was instructed in their reply to contact Twinings using the email ad supplied. My first red flag. If it was real bergamot they would surely be proud to tell me that on Facebook for all the public to see. This was the reply I got:

In our Twinings tea bag Earl Grey products we use a combination of a granular bergamot flavouring, plus a liquid flavouring to give a strong aroma. The exact compositions of flavourings are the flavour houses’ proprietary information. However, the flavourings in Earl Grey include a small amount of bergamot extract and other natural flavouring chemicals and synthetically produced flavour materials.

So, I have replied (a week ago now) to ask what percentage of the flavouring is real bergamot? No answer yet although I suspect that will also be “the flavour houses’ proprietary information”. I will keep you posted on that one. My next email will question the cost compared to the real. (UPDATE BELOW).

black-tea-431849_1280
A small amount of bergamot extract & other natural flavouring chemicals & synthetically produced flavouring materials

I figure if they are using artificial chemical flavouring then they ought not to be charging the very high price they do. I always paid more knowing that of course bergamot will be expensive and if I wanted that flavour it was worth the price. So there you go, this is what bloody corporations do (and if you read my posts you will know I don’t generally swear but on this occasion I am. I’m kind of gutted really). They’ve cut the cost of production (and no, chemicals won’t be dearer than real bergamot otherwise they wouldn’t be going to the trouble of sourcing them) and pocketed the difference they made (from we customers). We’ve learned to identify MSG by its various other abbreviated names, however in this instance, with the artificially tweaked bergamot, we have no idea what we are drinking chemical wise, plus it is just not the real deal.

So … I don’t like the fact that I’ve been drinking bergamot flavoured chemicals, especially after recently reading of the great health benefits of Earl Grey which would only be

tea-cup-2107599_1280
Cup of Earl Grey Chemicals anybody?

present in real bergamot, (relaxing and sleep inducing were two of them) and I don’t like the fact I’ve been ripped off. If I didn’t love Earl Grey so much I’d stop drinking it. Although that may still be on the tables. I’m just weighing it all up at the moment.  I’m asking myself also, what other products have chemical flavouring rather than the real thing? It surely proves we must read the fine print. Please do watch ‘The Corporation’ movie. You’ll understand why and how corporations can subtly mislead us.

UPDATE: The next reply I got from Twinings was 14/7/2018:

“The percentage of flavouring components that are derived from bergamot in the Earl Grey blend is 4.8%.

We are unable to give a list of other ingredients as this is proprietary information.”

I then replied again on 15/7/2017:

Hello and thank you for your reply.
I would have to express my disappointment that we are paying a lot for Earl Grey tea on the understanding really that it is expensive because of the bergamot content, yet it is only a mere 4.8%.
I would really like to know how long since your company has substituted chemicals for the real thing. And if we are purchasing chemical substitutes for bergamot the tea should therefore be cheaper. I don’t imagine the chemicals will be dearer than real bergamot or your company would not be using them.
And about the chemicals that are proprietary info, how do we the consumers choose the chemicals we ingest if your company is not willing to disclose them?
Would you please tell me when the content changed from bergamot to chemicals?
Kind regards

I have heard nothing since. I expect I won’t be either.

Note also, the concentration of chemical flavouring has gone from 3% (going by the first box I saved around 1-2 years ago) to 4.5% (the box I now have) to according to the manufacturer’s email, 4.8%. When, I wonder, did it rise to 4.8% given the last email was a year ago & current labeling is only 4.5%?

The other million dollar question is: how much is ‘a small amount’ of bergamot? It must be very small I imagine, given they are not saying.

If you’re for knowing what’s in your food, do drop them a line & ask the pertinent questions as I have. Here is their email: InfoHelp.Aus@twinings.com

Innovative DIY Ways to Create an Organic & Even Indoor Vegetable Garden

Story at-a-glance

  • Thirty-six percent of U.S. households grow their own food
  • Items you already have at home — from milk jugs to pantyhose — can help you create the perfect vegetable garden
  • Take advantage of vertical garden space by planting in over-the-door shoe organizers or shower caddies

By Dr. Mercola

Growing your own vegetables and fruits is one of the best ways to ensure ready access to fresh, nutrient-dense and chemical-free food. The pastime is catching on, with 74 percent of U.S. households taking part in lawn and garden activities in 2016 — a 4 percent rise from just a year before.1

The 2015 National Gardening Survey revealed that food gardening and flower gardening top the list of most popular forms of gardening, with 36 percent of U.S. households growing their own food.2 The National Gardening Association’s 2014 special report “Garden to Table” also highlighted the “food revolution” taking place in the U.S. as more Americans recognize and enjoy the benefits of homegrown food:3

“Countless communities, schools and families are growing more of their own food! Today, food gardening is at the highest level in more than a decade. In the past five years alone, spending on food gardening has increased 43 percent; urban gardeners have increased by 29 percent.

And, most encouragingly, young people — the millennials — have become the fastest growing segment of the population to start a food garden. Young people have begun to champion the connection between growing food, eating well and healthy living.”

Ten DIY Gardening Hacks That Really Work

There are many misconceptions surrounding home gardening, including that you need a large space to grow a meaningful amount of food. In reality, Rodale’s “The Backyard Homestead” suggests you can grow enough organic food to feed a family of four on only a quarter-acre of land — year-round.4 There are certainly many tips and tricks you can use to reap a bountiful harvest even if your garden is confined to containers on a balcony or a small plot of land in a community garden.

So the fruit with NZ labels may not be NZ grown after all – more lies from the corporations or human error?

Food labeling debate heats up, as big NZ companies voice their opposition

A fight nearly broke out in Parliament today over mandarins.

On one side was Labour Party MP Damien O’Connor, saying that shoppers were being lied to about where their fruit came from.

On the other was powerful Food and Grocery Council head Katherine Rich, who is strongly against making it compulsory for companies to say where their food is from.

Their war of words began when a select committee was shown pictures of mandarins, capsicums, and pears on New Zealand supermarket shelves which were marketed as being from New Zealand but were actually from Chile, the United States, Italy and the Netherlands.

“How can we trust a voluntary [labelling] scheme when your members are lying?” O’Connor asked Rich.

“I think that’s very harsh and very unfair,” she shot back.

“We have got photos – that’s lying to the public,” O’Connor said.

Rich said it was probably a mistake, and that her members were not responsible for supermarket signage.

“Are we seriously thinking that the poor supermarket worker who stacked that shelf set out to mislead the consumer?”

Okay, so mis labeling of a few mandarins, OR a few pears, sure that could easily happen. But mandarins, pears AND capsicums is moving toward the ‘hard to swallow’ basket. Human error? Or deliberately misleading us (from higher up the food chain)? As always question everything & all the more reason here to buy organic. Hard to wash the pesticides off & I’ve been told the glyphosate gets sprayed INTO the ground around the orange trees here in good ole Enzed. That’s from a grower who exports. Pesticide regulation in other countries is pretty loose (read ‘Circle of Poison’) given ‘civilized’ western nations have found a handy dumping ground there for their poisons banned at home – so yes nothing’s as it seems and not a lot is 100% safe these days. We have to ask ourselves, why on earth is Katherine Rich against labeling country of origin? Simple request surely?

From myeclinik.com

If you were born and raised in urban centers and find gardening a herculean task, understand that you don’t need to break your back at all, if you know what nature wants, and how it works for you. Understanding how Nature works will definitely reduce the effort of producing good food for one’s table.

When watching the documentary below, just replace “god” with Nature, and you’ll be okay. Just focus on the method and principles that you need to know.

The featured documentary, “Back to Eden,” reveals a simple organic gardening method that not only can transform your personal garden, but may even be part of the food solution needed on a global scale.

It is estimated that even if only 10% of the global population will do natural methods of gardening, the combined yield would be enough to feed those who have no direct access to farms. Not to mention the effect on the prices of organic foods when there’s abundance of them in the market.

One of the world’s most powerful “Superherbs”

From thetruthaboutcancer.com

For many thousands of years, people across the globe have enjoyed the fresh, citrusy flavor and bright, zesty aroma of one of the world’s oldest and most beloved herbs, cilantro. Also known as Coriandrum sativum, cilantro is a favorite of many in the culinary world, boasting a rich history of food pairing that’s almost as old as time itself. But did you know that cilantro is well-documented in the scientific literature as having medicinal properties as well?

Hailing from the Apiaceae family of herbs, which includes well-known vegetables and spices like parsley, carrots, and celery, as well as some 3,700 other plant species, cilantro is abundant in therapeutic elements that science suggests may help keep the body robustly nourished and free of toxins.Because it’s loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, cilantro is a top pick when it comes to perking up foods with a little extra nutrition.

Also called coriander or Chinese parsley, cilantro is both delicious and nutritious, which is why cultural foods from all around the world incorporate its use. There’s never a dull moment in terms of flavor when cilantro is present. And thanks to the fact that cilantro is widely available at most grocery stores very inexpensively, you can take home a bundle of cilantro and get a lot out of it by making freshly-prepared guacamole, for instance, which is one great way to incorporate more of it into a healthy diet.

But what about the alleged health benefits of cilantro?

Cilantro: One of the World’s Most Powerful “Superherbs”

Often referred to as a “superherb,” cilantro packs a pretty big punch considering its size. Cilantro contains vitamins A and K, as well as high levels of vitamin C and the trace mineral manganese. Cilantro also contains an impressive lineup of other vitamins and trace minerals such as B vitamins, calcium, iron, zinc, phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium.1

In the antioxidant department, cilantro holds its weight with the best of them. Cilantro is such a powerful antioxidant, in fact, that it’s often used as a natural preservative, its oil helping to inhibits oxidation and prevent spoilage in food.2 There are also antibacterial elements within cilantro that studies have shown can help prevent bacterial infections like Salmonella.

How Corporations Blatantly Lie to You – Pepsi Admits That Its Aquafina Bottled Water Is Just Tap Water

Remember Ribena folks? The product that GlaxoSmithKline  made misleading claims about regarding its Vitamin C content … it actually had nil? As I keep repeating, corporations lie. It’s in their nature & character. Corporations are legal persons with psychopathic traits to their personalities. Please watch ‘The Corporation’ doco. Very telling. So, the lesson is, don’t believe a word of what they say. To a corporation, the only thing that really matters is profits. Not you. Check everything for yourself & don’t rely on the media to do that for you. Sure they’ll report the lies of corporations but no more than they have to. Alternative media is doing that for you currently but that won’t last forever as those in charge have already put the writing on the wall that it will all come to an end in due course. What we read will be highly censored by the thought police. While you’re still allowed to think for yourself, do it & research everything. And keep record of what you find. Content is already disappearing from the searches I’ve noticed.

In a shocking reveal, the Pepsi corporation admitted that its Aquafina bottled water is not purified water or spring water, but simply plain old tap water. The company will now be forced to change the labeling of the brand to reflect that it is just tap water.

Many informed customers choose bottled water because they are concerned about the quality of tap water, which is many times riddled with fluoride and pharmaceuticals. Sadly, we are now learning that in many cases, bottled water is actually not any better than tap water.

Over the years, an advocacy group called, “Corporate Accountability International” has been checking the contents of bottled water and pressuring companies to stop their false advertisement.

Aquafina is actually one of the top selling water brands in the world, and may see a slide in sales as a result of these new findings.

In 2007 Two Kiwi Schoolgirls exposed GlaxoSmithKline’s false vitamin C claims with hardly any found in their Ribena

Four times the amount of Vit C as oranges? Two NZ school girls found it had almost none

Given Ribena’s advertising claims that “the blackcurrants in Ribena have four times the vitamin C of oranges”, they were astonished after discovering there was hardly any, and wrote to the manufacturers, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). When they got no response, they phoned the company, but were given short shrift. “They didn’t even really answer our questions. They just said it’s the blackcurrants that have it, then they hung up,” Jenny said.

Two New Zealand schoolgirls humbled one of the world’s biggest food and drugs companies after their school science experiment found that their ready-to-drink Ribena contained almost no trace of vitamin C.

Students Anna Devathasan and Jenny Suo tested the blackcurrant cordial against rival brands to test their hypothesis that cheaper brands were less healthy.

Instead, their tests found that the Ribena contained a tiny amount of vitamin C, while another brand’s orange juice drink contained almost four times more.

“We thought we were doing it wrong. We thought we must have made a mistake,” Anna told New Zealand’s Weekend Herald. The girls were both 14 and students at Pakuranga College in Auckland when they did the experiment in 2004.

NUTELLA Health Concerns Raised re Palm Oil Ingredient that May Cause Cancer

From The Sun

Could Nutella trigger cancer? Experts have warned a key ingredient in the spread could trigger the disease

But, in May the European Food Standards Agency, warned the product generates chemicals that are thought to cause cancer.

The oil, when heated at temperatures above 200°C generates more potentially carcinogenic contaminants than other vegetable oils.

But, the EFSA did not recommend consumers stop eating it, and said more research is needed to assess the level of risk.

Now, the makers of Nutella, Italian confectionery firm Ferrero, has launched an ad campaign to assure the public about the safety of the much-loved hazelnut and chocolate spread.

It comes as other food companies in Italy, where the firm are based, have chosen to boycott the ingredient.

A sp0kesman for Ferrero said the “health and safety of consumers is an absolute and first priority” for the firm.

The Poisoning of Our Children – Why You Should Buy Organic or Grow Your Own

“Children are especially vulnerable to the effects of many chemicals, but industrial chemicals are rarely tested for health and safety before sale ” ecochem.com

“Each day in the United States more than a million children age 5 and under who eat a normal diet ingest doses of organic phosphate pesticides that exceed the Environmental Protection Agency’s adult reference doses, according to a recent analysis of USDA and FDA data.

Twenty million American children age 5 and under eat an average of eight pesticides a day”

“An increasingly vast body of evidence shows that some chronic conditions such as birth defects, cancers, and developmental disorders among children are linked to the poisons that are dumped into the food children eat, the water they drink, and the air they breathe. Children are especially vulnerable to the effects of many chemicals, but industrial chemicals are rarely tested for health and safety before sale”

NZ is not exempt from these chemicals. Herald has posted a ‘dirty dozen’ list of foods that have the least to the most chemicals. And organicnz‘s website features a more detailed exposé…

“Celery, a range of fruit, dairy products and bread are all ranked in the top dozen of foods available in New Zealand that are likely to contain more pesticide residues.1 Close contenders behind the ‘dirty dozen’ (see table for the list) were cucumber, nectarines, lettuce, tomatoes, wine and pears”.

Do you really want to continue feeding your family toxic pesticides many of which are known carcinogens? I used to think peeling would take care of things until I learned recently of growers of oranges for export in the Gisborne area sprayed the ground around their orange trees with glyphosate (Roundup) in order for the tree’s roots to absorb it. This means it will be inside the oranges so can’t be removed. And glyphosate is in the middle of huge debate over its carcinogenicity. WHO deemed it a ‘probable carcinogen’ (See links to research and WHO’s report at the bottom of this page).  With a cocktail of up to ten pesticides on the average apple it really is not safe to be eating them. Remember the effect is cumulative which is why they get away with using these with impunity. By the time cancer appears and your chances of that are now one in three, there is little chance in today’s set up, to prove what caused it. It is in fact well known that exposure to environmental hazards are dangerous and predispose us to the development of cancer. Read Dr Samuel Epstein’s book ‘The Politics of Cancer’ examining this in the 1970s. Dr Meriel Watts of Pananz has also written a book about the effect of pesticides on our children: “Poisoning Our Future: Children and Pesticides”

“Poisoning Our Future: Children and Pesticides”

Front-Cover-Poisoning-Our-Future-small-211x300.jpg

According to Pesticide Action Network Aoteoroa New Zealand author, Dr Meriel Watts, “Children are not little adults. The activities they do make them more prone to accumulate pesticides in their bodies; and their developing bodies make them more prone to the negative effects of toxic chemicals such as pesticides. Yet government regulatory processes and tests do not look into these effects,” according to Dr Meriel Watts, author of the book. Tests used to approve use of pesticides do not look into endocrine disruption which can impact the physical, intellectual and behavioural development of the foetus and young child. The effects can include ADHD and autism and even conditions like obesity and breast cancer that can show up later in life in what is now referred to as the “foetal origins of adult disease”. Some childhood cancers like leukaemia have been linked to the exposure of parents to pesticides. Highly hazardous pesticides also damage the developing immune, nervous and reproductive systems.  PANANZ
