Environment Southland councillor sparks up after being shut down
Environment Southland councillor Robert Guyton has been shut down from speaking about a damning water quality report at a council meeting.
Councillors instead decided to speak about the issue at a closed workshop in which the public and media will not be invited.
Robert Guyton wanted to talk about a Ministry of Environment Report released on Thursday which says New Zealand’s lakes and rivers are coming under increasing pressure for reasons including land use.
The report was tabled at an Environment Southland committee meeting and Guyton noted the “strident” media coverage it had received that day, including calls from some quarters for an immediate reduction in cow numbers.
However, Environment Southland chief executive Rob Phillips said the issue would be better spoken about in a council workshop, with Cr Lloyd McCallum agreeing.
Guyton was not happy.
“I am rather puzzled why we aren’t allowed to speak about it now,” he said.
“We seem to be burying it in a workshop. What’s the purpose of this meeting,” he asked.
Phillips said the report was tabled at the meeting as a “heads up” for councillors and the item was not on the agenda.
He said it was appropriate to have a “more considered” discussion about the issue at a later date.
Cr Ross Cockburn, the committee meeting chairman, also said it was more appropriate to have it in a workshop at a later date, but Guyton voiced his opposition.
After the meeting, Guyton said he believed the water quality report should have been spoken about by councillors in the public forum so the public knew where the councillors stood.
“To shove it into a workshop which is public excluded, I think is wrong.”
“Southland people would like to know what their elected members are thinking on this issue,” Guyton said.
“If they are only getting the sanitised version they shouldn’t feel confident they are being well represented.”

In a shocking reveal, the Pepsi corporation admitted that its Aquafina bottled water is not purified water or spring water, but simply plain old tap water. The company will now be forced to change the labeling of the brand to reflect that it is just tap water.
Many informed customers choose bottled water because they are concerned about the quality of tap water, which is many times riddled with fluoride and pharmaceuticals. Sadly, we are now learning that in many cases, bottled water is actually not any better than tap water.

In general, only “criminals” have need to have a genuine fear of the Police, and THAT Councilor who made the statement should know THAT better than most others who were present that night!
Michael Feyen is STILL the “people’s elect”; and it was because the constituents were tired of the Duffy “regime” that he was voted in.
The present “NINE” Councilors don’t realize the damage they are doing to their chance of ever being elected again, and that their future in Council is being carefully scrutinized by “Johnny Tucker-box” on the street!
Honesty WILL PREVAIL in the end, and ALL WILL BE REVEALED; it just takes time …. Meantime, Michael Feyen’s “popularity” on the street is INCREASING, as the “agendas” and behaviors of others is making them look less desirable in the Public Eye…. Most Mayors get a welcome at their first council meeting.
But the controversial mayor of Horowhenua Michael Feyen says he’s been met only with hostility.
“I had on that first meeting three notices of motion, that were put in, to not open the books, to not relitigate whether we sell the pensioner housing and to not relook at the building. Now they were all platforms that I stood that people want to be looked at and so they all voted 9-2 in favour and yet three of those councillors as I said at the public meeting so it’s nothing new, I wondered how they could vote on such matters when we had never even had council briefings, we had never had anything,” says Mr Feyen.
The nine councillors who voted against Mayor Feyen say they are adamant they will support him, when his ideas are worth supporting.

So as we’ve reported before, Council doesn’t want the books opened (what are they hiding?) Now the public isn’t welcome (according to one Councilor at least). Openness and honesty are two things the current new Mayor emphasized in his campaign. No wonder the old regime want him out. (They do, in case you hadn’t heard there’s a petition going around to oust the people’s choice). As William McGregor’s saying here, “if the H.D.C. was HONEST, UP-FRONT & RUN WITH “INTEGRITY”, there would simply be NO “REASON” to have to “vote” to have “the books” sealed, the building “consent” hidden, or anything else!” I wholeheartedly agree.
On the 22nd of August, 2014, 32,000 kilos of 1080 poison bait was cast across Mt Pirongia, near Hamilton. It was enough poison to kill 240,000 people, almost twice the population of Hamilton…
A previous 2007 drop across the mountain was “hailed a success” by Waikato Regional Council, despite farmers raising concern about contamination, including to drinking water.
The New Zealand manufacturer’s (owned by NZ Govt) 1080 poison label includes the following warnings –

“Toxic to terrestrial vertebrates.”
“Take measures to reduce of non-target animals being exposed to the toxin either through eating the baits or by scavenging the carcasses of poisoned animals.”
“Harmful to aquatic organisms.”
“Take all practicable steps to manage any harmful effects of a spillage including preventing baits from accidentally entering streams or waterways.”
“This product is toxic to wildlife. Birds and mammals feeding on carcasses of contaminated animals may be fatally poisoned.”
“Where practicable, the exposed bodies of all poisoned animals should be collected and destroyed by complete burning or deep burial in a landfill approved for hazardous substances. Dehydrated carcasses may remain dangerous to dogs or cats for an indefinite period. A single mouse poisoned by 1080 may contain enough poison to kill an adult dog.”
“Take measures to minimise the chance of baits accidentally entering any body of water.”
And … “Apply the product only as specified by label directions.” …
Flight charts released by the Department of Conservation reveal that 1080 poison was dropped directly into most streams and catchments, including to eight of the nine known water abstraction points. Poisoned carcasses have been left to rot in the streams, and animal welfare concerns have been raised. The Department of Conservation Mt Pirongia aerial drop, breached or ignored all of these warnings …
Vatican Radio last week charged that United Nations organizations promoting population control are using vaccines to surreptitiously sterilize women in Third World countries. Kenya’s Ministry of Health, along with the UN organizations — World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF — deny the charges, which carry the full weight of the Vatican. “Catholic Bishops in Kenya have been opposed to the nationwide Tetanus Vaccination Campaign targeting 2.3 million Kenyan women and girls of reproductive age between 15-49 years, terming the campaign a secret government plan to sterilize women and control population growth,” reported Vatican Radio, as it took the occasion of the ordination of a Kenyan Bishop, Joseph Obanyi Sagwe, as an opportunity to remind the world of its concern.
The church, which operates 30% of Kenya’s health care facilities and has been providing health care in Kenya for more than 100 years, is not opposed to vaccinations. To the contrary, its health facilities have long been administering vaccines as part of its public health mission.

The policies became known as the ‘dead peasant’ or janitor policies because corporations took out insurance policies on millions of low-wage workers including janitors, without their knowledge or consent.”
At special risk are those working at close proximity to wireless computers, modems/routers and those compelled to handle and wear wireless communications devices, including two-way radios, cell phones and DECT cordless phone systems. Unlike wired systems, wireless surveillance and security equipment also inundates workspaces with perpetual and powerful microwave pollution.

Timaru primary school Grantlea Downs has opted not to allow a vaccine against Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) to be administered on its grounds.
South Canterbury District Health Board (SCDHB) chief executive Nigel Trainor raised the school’s stance towards the nationwide immunisation programme during a health board meeting on Friday.
Trainor said the school’s board of trustees had made the decision not to allow the students to be vaccinated against HPV on site.
“Unfortunately they never contacted us to have any sort of conversation about that so I’m not sure what happened or what inspired it.”
Board of trustees chairman Nigel Chapman confirmed the decision was made by the board. However, he could not confirm any other details until he had checked the minutes of the meeting when the decision was made.
If contracted, the virus could lead to increased risk of a number of cancers, including cervical cancer.
Confirming the identity of the school on Monday, a health board spokesperson said the decision to withdrawn from the DHB-led immunisation programme meant about 40 per cent of the school’s year 8 pupils would be immunised.
This school in my opinion has made an excellent choice here. The evidence against choosing this vaccine is becoming more than enough to consider avoiding it. Too many injuries. Three deaths in NZ we noted not long ago. And a whistleblower telling us it’s a scam. Educate yourselves people. Look at the research you aren’t being shown. As of November 2013 there have been 31,741 reported adverse reactions to the HPV vaccine, and the position of the Pharmaceutical companies which make the vaccine, as well as the Department of Health and Human Services which holds patents and profits on the vaccine, is that they are all a coincidence. .
Call your Congressman and tell them you want an investigation into the HPV vaccine and the damage it is causing to young men and women.
“Not a Coincidence” is a campaign started by The Canary Party to address the medical community’s repeated excuse that the symptoms, too many experience, after vaccination are just coincidental. In my opinion placed there to lull you into thinking all this toxic pollution is not their fault. One gets the impression these DCs are fully in bed with the respective industries. Examine also though some of the events that transpire in the various other regions where the life in the waterways is dying off. Recently we had a huge die off of pipi and tuatua at Waitarere Beach. We hear a flurry in the news of ‘yes we are testing’ etc etc etc, and unless you pester them you’ll likely hear no more of it. Or when you do it is some curious thing to blame like I read recently, ‘pine pesticide’. Then they blame floods or high temps. All ‘natural’ phenomena of course so industrial pollution can’t be blamed. But here in this video, the stream is said to stink of chemicals, to which the likely reply will be the usual mantra of ‘it can’t be proven’. Not without extensive and expensive testing at least. Which predictably nobody will feel responsible enough to stump up with the costs for. Industries/corporations manage to let themselves off the hook in terms of responsibility for clean up. They have succeeded in reframing all of that by calling the damages externalities and making the public pay. Really the must watch as I always recommend is, ‘The Corporation’ doco. The profits of corporations are generally so large they pay for any fines out of their lunch money. If they get any fines that is. Largely they create carnage then move on leaving the locals to suck it up … get poisoned … whatever. They are rarely made to pay. So here we have dying eels as the canary in the coal mine. How long will it be before there is nothing left? We can’t swim in these streams and rivers any more, many more we can’t even wade in they’re so toxic. So why would we be expecting eels to survive in them? The regional authorities need to step up & enforce their consents properly instead of turning the proverbial blind eye.

Forget clean and green – this Wellington stream is brown, bubbly and litter-strewn
As Jane Poata walks beside Wellington’s Owhiro Stream, the toxic stench rekindles childhood memories of holidaying beside New Zealand’s most-contaminated site.
It is a metallic smell she described as ammonia and lime, rising from the brown and bubbly stream, a tributary of which passes through T&T Landfills before running behind a primary school and homes then into Taputeranga Marine Reserve off the capital’s south coast.
Greater Wellington Regional Council has confirmed the contamination came from the T&T Landfills, which was in the process of diverting the tributary to Owhiro Stream and creating a filtering wetland so it no longer picked up debris and contaminants when flood water rushed through.
“Any contaminant can be toxic and harmful to the stream ecology and people coming into contact, but it depends on the levels we find.”
The landfill was fined following a similar incident in November. Cross said further fines had not been ruled out but the council was more focused now on fixing the problem.

Last December, then President Barack Obama, passed a law that favored pharmaceutical company agendas. The law gives way to pharmaceutical companies who want to use a vaccine or any medication as an experimental endeavor. And they don’t have to tell the patient.
Clinical testing of investigational medical devices and drugs no longer requires the informed consent of the subjects if the testing poses no more than minimal risk to the subjects and includes safeguards.
The exact details of what is intended by “clinical testing” is no clear. Additionally, the “no longer requires the informed consent of the subjects” portion is incredibly, and terrifyingly, clear. This seems to give pharmaceutical companies the ability to perform any testing they want to on anyone who is already receiving one of their medications.

Last week saw devastating floods in the town of Edgecumbe in the beautiful Bay of Plenty. Heartfelt sympathies to all who have been affected by this carnage. I was living in that region during the 2004 floods so saw the devastation then myself. Fortunately we lived on higher ground so were unaffected.

It seems little known that back in 1945 plans for subdivision in Edgecumbe were declined by the Dept of Lands because the area would always be subject to flooding they said ….
“…the township of Edgecumbe will be subject always to serious and dangerous flood hazard”.

However opponents to that advice or ruling won the day as can be seen in the article and the town was built.
I’ve gathered together here a few articles on the topic and note the frequent reference to Edgecumbe being flood prone but nowhere can I see any reference to the advice of the Department of Lands back in 1945 to not build there.

Everyone has been told to leave. People are being evacuated from the Bay of Plenty town of Edgecumbe where the Rangitaiki River has breached, flowing into the township.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council made the claim after the Rangitaiki River burst through stopbanks designed for a one-in-100 year flood event, gushing into hundreds of homes and forcing 1600 people to evacuate.
Though the weather has cleared, houses remain sodden and filled with mud, and some will be condemned due to structural damage. Hundreds of displaced Edgecumbe residents stormed out of a public meeting as fraying tempers tipped over into anger on Saturday night.
Bleachers were packed with families, children, and elderly, many hugging and comforting each other as the meeting endured and officials appeared to fail to answer the more pressing questions.
The crowd frequently heckled the speakers, often appearing enraged.

“Below is a list of 3090 materials that were reported to be used in fragrance compounds by IFRA members in a 2008 voluntary survey. IFRA members are responsible for possibly 90% of the world’s fragrance production. The list was updated in 2011 and they say they will occasionally update it again with info from future surveys.
There could be ingredients used in fragrance manufacture that are not on this list.
Many of the fragrance ingredients are made from petrochemicals. Yes, from petroleum. Great stuff to breathe in (especially for children and pets) and absorb through our skin.
I hope to be able to get a list of the 4000 – 7000 chemicals that (according to the CDC) are in cigarette smoke, and then find a way to compare the two.
Note that health effects are not known for a significant portion of the chemicals in production and use today. Testing has simply not been done. When substances do show health harm, it is extremely difficult to get them off the market.
That said, there are more than a few substances listed below that are known to cause serious health harm.

As always it’s so important to be awake and aware and be prepared to read extensively. The independent research is often shuffled away and needs to be uncovered. Industry frequently conceals it or adds it in very fine print. Most of us (as I used to) don’t read beyond the large label. Flip over any product though and examine the list of those unpronounceable chemicals there and then record and research them on the many ID sites available for these, along with the information as to whether they’ve been tested or not. EWG is an excellent site to do this. There are others. Minimizing our exposure to these unhealthy additives can only be healthy. There are safer natural alternatives. You may think your exposure is minimal however remember the chemicals soak straight through your skin into your bloodstream and accumulate. The damage is long term and cumulative. A cancer tumor can take up to 15 years to develop. An excellent book to read is ‘The Politics of Cancer’ by Samuel Epstein, a Medical Doctor who warned back in the ’70s of the chemicals in our environment that are leading to cancer.

To say I am “passionate” about the Cenotaph at the Northern end of Main St. Foxton is an understatement, and here’s why ….
It is of VITAL importance to understand a few things first – there is a MAJOR difference in understanding when two (or more) “Cultures” merge, yet VERY FEW apply simple RESPECT to the fact that “we” ARE DIFFERENT in what we say/mean …. and therein lies the problem. Bear with me ….
To those of you who have read the “Fiftieth Jubilee” (1888 – 1938) of Te Awahou, you would note the mention of Ihakara Tukumaru as being the “Paramount Chief” of the locality, and, because of HIS “friendly & peaceful outlook”, that “European Settlement” was easy & rapid. (Paraphrasing)
In 1843, Rev. James Duncan settled over on Matakarapa (the land Te Rauparaha “tuku’d” (gifted) to Ihakara Tukumaru) and he stayed there until he moved across the river onto ANOTHER piece of “land” that Ihakara, (AND HIS PEOPLE) “gifted him”, in appreciation for the work he (Duncan) was doing for the local Maori on a Spiritual level.
Earliest records show there was a old “Native” Meeting house where the Cenotaph stands today.
It was replaced with a Church and that’s quite possibly because of Rev. James Duncan’s work with the Natives, in bringing “God” into their lives. We can only speculate ….
What we KNOW is that there was an ANCIENT “burial ground” there, that contained “Natives” BEFORE the Settlers arrived, and some of Te Awahou’s (Foxton’s) earliest Settlers were interred there …. Why? – BECAUSE THAT WAS the cemetery!
Avenue Road, Lady’s mile etc. WEREN’T EVEN “established” yet!
Here’s where you need to use your imagination ….
BEFORE the Settlers came to Aotearoa, the “Natives” DIDN’T bury their loved ones in “regimental lines” that you see today!
They buried them by trees, boulders, hills – where-ever the terrain allowed; there was NO “right way/wrong way” – that’s just how it was!
Now *NOTE –
When Settlers died, the “Undertaker” took the corpse away and attended the body and the funeral was held – DONE!
When “Maori” died, it’s as it is today – we sleep with the body, we cover it with cuddles/kisses – we loath when the three days are up; this is the FINAL ACT of our loved one’s “earth” journey …. their Spiritual journey BEGINS ….
These understandings of our “loved ones” FINAL JOURNEY is VASTLY DIFFERENT, and THAT’S O.K.! It is what it is! But, it needs to be acknowledged!
So, HERE’S MY POINT –
When Ihakara Tukumaru (and HIS PEOPLE) tuku’d that piece of whenua (land) to the PEOPLE OF TE AWAHOU, they KNEW who was buried there, they would have EXPECTED that the remains of both Maori AND Settlers alike to be RESPECTED as their FINAL RESTING PLACE!
I heard it said “But, when something is given as a “gift”, you have no say after that as to what happens to that “gift””!
I say “If it was a piece of whenua (land) “EXCESS TO NEED”, of NO CONSEQUENCE, then yes – walk away – it doesn’t have any significance to anyone”.
But that’s NOT THE CASE HERE – for (indeed) Ihakara HIMSELF is buried there! And so are other members of his Whanau – in fact, even some Immediates!
When the Cenotaph was put in place (1920) “koiwi” (human remains) were unsettled – it was an accident – it can be forgiven…. I believe it IS forgiven.
But, to go back and unsettle MORE koiwi – KNOWING that there are MANY over a VERY BIG AREA still there, is SACRILEGE; it is WANTON DESTRUCTION and (because it is known what is there) that “act” is NOT FORGIVABLE!
And FOR WHAT …. a few people’s VANITY?! WHY?! The Cenotaph is a memorial to those who died for Te Awahou – and like my Tupuna, I say – LET THEM “REST IN PEACE”! Ake, ake, ake – Amene.

I attended the first meeting and considering what’s being said here by Mr McGregor, nowhere did I see official acknowledgement of the fact that beneath that cenotaph is an urupa (cemetery) in spite of the fact that HDC claims to respect their relationship with Iwi and wahi tapu. You can read their official statement on that at their website. Here is a relevant excerpt from there:
Through its decision-making processes, Council recognises the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and kaitiakitanga, providing for the relationship of Maori and their traditions with their ancestral lands, water sites, waahi tapu and other taonga.
Concerning the Consultation
Regarding this part of the street restructure, there has been one consultation meeting so far, led by a facilitator. Had the HDC had their way this cenotaph would likely have been moved already. Last year they arranged for a blessing of it prior to their street revamp plans and the original plan was to see it moved. However both tangata whenua and other local citizens of Foxton protested with a peaceful sit in to express their grievances. The final disbanding of that process happened following a meeting with protest leader William McGregor and other protest representatives, the CE of HDC and a Police mediator. A promise was made it was said to those present (which HDC now flatly deny – article to follow shortly on that) that no more work would be done either beyond Wharf Street or to the cenotaph without further public consultation and this has been the main bone of contention. Lack of proper consultation. Many folk simply want the street left as is, aside from a tidy up, and the $1.6 million spent on what they see as more urgent priorities like clean drinking water, opening the river loop and paying down the $68 million council debt which they know will inevitably hit their pockets in the form of raised rates. The next protest in March this year concerned all of these issues and the fact that HDC was said to be reneging on their word. There was a letter from three HDC Councillors circulated to all households the day the second protest started citing the original agreement between parties at the cenotaph protest claiming the promise was about the cenotaph only. It was signed by the CE. Who ever heard of the validity of an ‘agreement’ though, with the signature of only ONE party to the agreement on it? Imagine the Treaty of Waitangi with only Governor Hobson’s signature. Hardly credible is it?
The other thing is, none of those attendees of the said meeting ever received a copy! (Well not until they cleared their junk mail at the end of the day the March protest started that is).
On the note of consultation, as set out on the HDC website/info, consultation is defined as to:
Provide easy-to-understand summaries of proposals and plans
Identify who will be affected by decisions and encourage them to make their views known to the council
In addition:
councils also must give reasons for their decisions and
Find out what all the practical options are for dealing with issues and carefully assess them
I have spoken with the facilitator & asked how many meetings there would be. There are three altogether, the first was for all parties including the public to contribute their ideas. The second is by invitation only (due I’m told, to numbers) and will concern key stakeholders. Stakeholders are the public, Iwi and business people from the main street. Certain property owners will be invited, I’m not sure about the renters of property. That was not too clear.
The second meeting will take place after all the comments are collated and we have no date yet for that. The third meeting will be public allowed, and excuse my cynicism but I’d say it will be all done and dusted by then. The decision that is. Here’s hoping I’m wrong.
And who makes the final decision? Council does. If you would like to contact the facilitator I’m sure HDC would enable that. If not contact us. And keep yourself up to date on meeting announcements by visiting HDC’s website regularly.

Our waterways planet wide are now highly polluted and no longer safe to drink. Consequently, the water that’s fed to us in the town supplies is replete with chlorine, fluoride and other additives to prevent us getting sick. However, there is a long term sickness cost to that. Only 40% of NZ rivers are safe to even swim in now. The Manawatu river is the MOST POLLUTED river in the southern hemisphere. Someone got trench mouth from ingesting that river water. It’s contaminated with spirochetes that cause leptospirosis & lyme disease among other things (all in the article of the last link there). They’ve been polluting our waterways for the past century basically and continue to do so. We can no longer eat what remains of the food in our waterways … the whitebait’s nearly gone, birds are declining, eels are dying. All in the name of profits for the few.
So it’s important to start the conversation on obtaining healthy water to drink. Town supplies are not healthy in the long term. This is a huge subject that’s been widely debated … best to research it & make your own informed decisions before getting sick.

The article is titled “Fading Immunity to MMR Vaccine May Be Behind the Mumps Epidemic.”4There was nothing particularly groundbreaking about Dr. Offit’s piece. The main point had to do with the apparent resurgence of mumps in the United States of late and how the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is looking into addressing the failure of the mumps vaccine by recommending a third dose of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine for children 11-13 years of age.
But there was a little dig tucked away in the middle of the article that did not escape me. Dr. Offit wrote that the reason for mumps outbreaks in the U.S. is because “some parents are choosing not to vaccinate their children.”4
This is a common refrain by many pediatricians throughout the country when vaccines fail to prevent infectious diseases, and certainly by those who have a vested financial interest in the production and sale of vaccines. In an article I recently wrote about pediatrician Peter J. Hotez, MD, PhD, director of the Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Vaccine Development in Houston and dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine, I noted that Dr. Hotez employed the same blame game tactic:
Dr. Hotez cites a report by Daniel Salmon at the Johns Hopkins Institute of Vaccine Safety and Saad Omer at Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health claiming that most of the measles cases in the United States in 2015 can be blamed on “intentionally unvaccinated” people.5
So threatened is Dr. Hotez by parents and others who choose to defend their informed consent rights with regard to vaccination that he believes that “we need to take steps now to snuff it out”—referring to what he calls the “anti-vaccine” movement.5 I suspect Dr. Offit may well share this sentiment. Few people have been more aggressive and vocal than Dr. Offit in criticizing those who dare question the mainstream vaccine paradigm that assumes vaccines are safe and effective and opt to make their own informed decisions. In the process, Dr. Offit has a long list of beliefs that, at least to me, sound bizarre.
