Japanese government pays worker who developed cancer from Fukushima radiation

“It’s no secret that exposure to high levels of radiation increases the risk for cancer. Nevertheless, showing that radiation exposure causes cancer is notoriously difficult. For the first time, the Japanese government has acknowledged that a worker at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant developed cancer from radiation exposure.”
“The man is in his 40s and is suffering from leukemia. He didn’t work full time at Fukushima the weeks following the disaster in March 2011, when radiation levels were at their highest. However, he did install covers on damaged reactors at the power plant from October 2012 to December 2013, and was exposed to a total of 19.8 millisieverts of radiation during that time … he was exposed to nearly four times the annual dose allowed for nuclear workers in Japan, which is less than half the amount US nuclear workers are exposed to each year.(1)”
“The man will receive compensation for medical expenses and paid time off for lost income, said government officials.(2)”

According to a recent study, thyroid cancer rates are 20 to 50 times higher among children who live inside the Fukushima Prefecture than those who don’t. “Now that we have the TPPA text it’s becoming clear that this deal as is bad as we’ve been expecting. Kiwis haven’t been fooled,” said Miller.

Fine words. Words conveying a strong message.
Now Andrew Little needs to follow up those words of hope by doing something simple and at little cost to the tax-system; announce a new role of Minister for Children, and take on the position himself.
John Key has allocated the portfolio of Minister for Tourism to himself, and takes his role ‘seriously’ by regularly holidaying on the sun-drenched, warm-sands, of a Hawaiian beach. Nice for him. He gets a very nice tan out of it.

Polluting for Personal Profit – How NZ’s Waterways are Trashed
Here we have an article from the Manawatu Standard (under ‘opinion’) that is rare in its honesty, about the machinations of our environmental ‘protection’ agencies in drawing environmental protection groups into their fold. It’s called ‘collaboration’ but is not what it seems, as the article very honestly points out, titling the collaboration process ‘unmitigated bull faeces’. How refreshing to hear such truth. Our Councils and Horizons pay lip service to environmental protection, bandying around the Agenda 21 catchwords, ‘sustainable development’ and ‘smart growth’ all the while continuing on their ‘polluting for personal profit’ trajectory. If you want to see extreme water pollution, check out Lake Horowhenua, once the pristine food basket of local people Muaupoko, it’s been polluted for decades with human faeces, never mind bull faeces, although some of that goes in there as well. We’ve
also watched this recently with the leachate saga at the Bonny Glen landfill where the ‘gentleman’s agreement’ has allowed unknown amounts of toxic leachate, over and beyond the consent levels, into the Rangitikei waterways. And the powers that be continue to drag the chain with their hands firmly in the pockets of the landfill corporation. Equally farcical was the ‘independent’ consent hearing; it was held 45 minutes travel from those it affected most, and anybody who attended could see it was a done deal, the chair saying on one occasion ‘when the consents are granted’, a Freudian slip he quickly corrected. This has all been going on since the late ’80s and particularly since our country became a registered corporation owned by Queen Elizabeth II. Despite the PR spin, this 2 day event, more appropriately called a weapons conference, promises to be a bonanza for companies who are in the business of selling products that are designed to kill, maim and destroy.
As one of several New Zealand cities that are members of the ‘Mayors for Peace’ global initiative, Wellington should not be hosting this event – particularly when this year’s principal sponsor is Lockheed Martin. This US-based company is a major manufacturer of nuclear weapons and delivery systems for the US and the UK. You’ll be surprized at the far reach of their persuasion & the lengths they go to to maintain control. This is why we need to oppose the TPPA (protest coming up on 14th November). Corporations are about profits and they will guard those to the death almost. They use well paid lawyers in their large armoury of tactics. GMOs are being resisted world wide now that more of the truth is out. Research GMOs for yourself if you’re not up to speed with them. Much of our food, particularly soy and corn is already GM, and it isn’t labeled. It has never been proven safe and there is much data now to cause you to want to refrain.

Min for the Environment approves GE trials into cancer treatment – the thin end of the wedge
Here we have our minister for the environment okaying experimental trials that involve injecting cancerous tumours in humans, with GE material. The ever widening thinner end of the proverbial wedge in good ole GE free NZ. (We are NOT GE free … GE crops have been grown here, we also just failed badly with GM cow experimentation in case you missed it … and they already feed our stock with GE feed). I don’t ever recall any public announcements about these either … just like we weren’t warned about the GE corn. How many crops were contaminated unknowingly by it? We will never know of course. And in the video here in the article, our honorable minister tells us life is not without risks so trusting that risk to a human being circulating in the public arena is okay. Why can people not see through the farcical machinations of these corrupt polis? On the one hand they sell our country to the world as GE free, on the other they okay the pollution of everything by corporations and sneakily feed us unlabelled GE food. (Products containing corn and soy are at high risk of being GE). Double speak. Like professing to want to save lives while suppressing real cures. The minister says he ‘we do not want to deny people access to life-saving treatments’ – yet see how the family of a Waikato man in 200 had to enlist legal assistance to persuade the public hospital not to pull the plug on his life support and to administer IV Vitamin C. This man, had the family followed the hospital’s advice, would be dead today. Instead he is well and back at work. Thanks to the persistence of his loved ones. So much for the professions by our representatives to not want to deny life-saving assistance. The people concerned here have chosen a very strategic route into more rounds of GE experimentation … for who is going to object to saving people’s lives? If the trials perform anything like the recent cow fiasco, heaven help the folks being experimented on. A good summary of the dangers of GE can be found in Dr Jeffrey Smith’s book ‘Hard to Swallow’. Jeffrey Smith can also be found on Youtube in various interviews that expose the dangers of GE. Remember, GE crops are doused liberally with glyphosate, recently classified as a class 2A carcinogen by WHO. (See our glyphosate page).

Minister open to more GMOs

Environment Minister Nick Smith says more genetically modified organisms may get approval for use in New Zealand and he has dismissed as impractical local councils’ opposition to them.
The Environmental Protection Agency this week approved the importation of the Pexa-Vec virus, which is used to combat liver cancer. It is the first GMO to get New Zealand approval as a human medicine.
Dr Smith told The Nation today the scientific advice was that there was little chance the virus would spread or survive outside a tumorous liver.
About 180 New Zealanders died from liver cancer each year, he said.
“We do not want to deny people access to life-saving treatments on the basis of knee-jerk political reactions, slogans like ‘GM-free’.”

Monsanto in Another Huge Lawsuit for ‘Lying About Roundup-Cancer Link’

“Lawsuits filed against agribusiness giant Monsanto are mounting, with the latest one being filed last week in Delaware.
That lawsuit is just one of a growing number of suits alleging a link between glyphosate exposure and cancer. Glyphosate is the main ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide. Three law firms are representing the plaintiffs in the case, which claims that Monsanto “led a prolonged campaign of misinformation to convince government agencies, farmers and the general population that Roundup was safe,” according to Reuters. It’s the same old story though … because the threat is invisible we think it’s not happening. Educate yourself and listen to Prof Trower’s advice. Another excellent watch on the topic is Take Back Your Power. You will learn there of one woman’s shocking discovery after the terrible loss of her adult son to brain cancer. He had lived in a University hostel placed right near a cell phone mast, and there had in fact been multiple similar deaths to cancer by young people living previously in the same room as her son. GM Cow Trials in New Zealand Show Disastrous Results
Our supposedly ‘clean green’ country (and don’t get me wrong, I love my country) is sold to the world as being GE/GMO free. I’ve been repeating this often on here that we are not. (Read a quote from the Green Party on GE animal feed). Back in 2000 Nicky Hager wrote in his book ‘Seeds of Distrust’ that GE Corn was grown here in several different locations, without the public’s knowledge and obviously without their consent. Once uncovered, the PM at the time,
Helen Clarke ordered the crops be pulled up and disposed of, however after some discussion and clearly corporate persuasion, the crops were left in and went to full term and harvest. How many other organic or otherwise crops were contaminated? Who knows given the industry is inclined to secrecy and an aversion to labeling of anything containing their poisonous products? As a result of all this the bar of acceptance levels was raised a little higher, widening the previously thin end of the wedge so to speak. It’s happening by increments folks. So here now we are being told of a 15 year excursion into biological experiments on genetically modified/engineered (whatever you like to call tinkering with nature) cows … and note, with ‘disastrous results’.

Here’s an illustration of what one person’s research into hidden environmental hazards can turn up. You would think people would be pleased to be warned however not so. In this instance nobody wanted to hear why their town’s death rate was 80 times higher than anywhere else in the US. I encounter similar disbelief when I relate the hidden dangers of Smart Meters and other RF radiation risks, and chemicals in our food, water and air. Too often people only begin to take this all seriously when bad health strikes. We need to remember again, corporations are about profits for their shareholders and these come first. Any environmental risks are only disclosed (if at all) in very fine print which few read. Corporations are not devoted to the good health of their buying customers … we the people need to fulfill that mandate. Be warned.

Triphenyl phosphate, or TPHP, a suspected endocrine-disrupting chemical, is commonly used to make plastics and as a fire retardant in foam furniture. And if you wear nail polish, it could be in your body too.

Remember, the effects of these tiny amounts of chemicals may not show up in your health for many years. The accumulation is slow … but sure. Read a book called ‘The Politics of Cancer’ by Dr Samuel Epstein written long ago, in the 1970s in fact. Yes, it was known way back then that environmental factors played a large part in our vulnerability to cancer but the health industry continues to act mystified and carries on asking for your donations to research endlessly for cures. There are in fact many cancer fighting protocols that have been successful but you are never going to hear about them in mainstream media. Do some research … there is plenty of information out there now … on the internet that is. And, additionally, there are alternative products you can buy … without the toxic additives … they may cost a little more, like organic food, however you will save in medical bills later.

Fracking Forces Schools to Practice Earthquake Drills for First Time Ever

“As the number of fracking-related earthquakes increase with alarming frequency and intensity across the Central U.S., more and more people in the area might be wondering something they haven’t had to before: “What do I do during an earthquake?”
Reuters reports that government agencies are preparing residents in the Central U.S. on how to stay safe in case of a damaging earthquake. Tomorrow, Oct. 15., the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and other organizations are coordinating the “Great ShakeOut,” a nationwide earthquake drill.
A large number of residents from the Central U.S. will be participating in their first-ever national earthquake drill. According to Reuters, “About 3 million people are signed up to participate across 14 central states that include Oklahoma, Missouri, Indiana, Illinois and for the first time, Texas, up from 2.76 million a year ago, organizers said. Nationwide, nearly 19 million people are registered for the drills, FEMA said.”

Kiwis everywhere are growing their own food again
Up until the 1950s folks grew their own food as a matter of course. It was what you did. Supermarkets kind of changed that but folks are catching on to the fact that processed foods are frequently devoid of nutrients and our fresh produce is sprayed liberally with toxic chemicals bringing with them a myriad of health risks. The financial squeeze is also a motivating factor and people are getting their fingers in the soil and producing their own food for cheap.
Here are some examples of that in the North Island, one is in the far North, and another in Hawkes Bay, both beautiful warm regions for growing things. A third I noticed recently on Facebook in Palmerston North, closer to home, illustrating the wonderful value of communities getting together and growing food… and sharing. That’s how our forbears used to do it.

“North Hokianga residents are on the path to making their food pantries and larders entirely self-sufficient.
The North Hokianga Co-op aims to get residents growing their own produce and wants to build a boutique abattoir to process local meat.
Co-op organiser Jackie Thompson says the area wants to make the most of their natural resources and change attitudes towards food and where it comes from.
The Co-op held a “Kai Rangatira” day on October 10 to introduce the community to gardening methods and information. More than100 people turned out to learn about grafting, worm farms, traditional Maori medicine, honey and housing projects.
“Food comes from the supermarket, from over the counter in a package. We’re eating too much sugar and too much processed food. That is basically seen as normal….”

Why are the rich getting richer?

1. The current money system distributes money from the bottom 90% to the top 10%
Because 97% of the money in the UK is created by banks, someone must pay interest on nearly every pound in the circulation. This interest redistributes money from the bottom 90% of the population to the very top 10%. The bottom 90% of the UK pays more interest to banks that they ever receive from them, which results in a redistribution of income from the bottom 90% of the population to the top 10%. Collectively we pay £165m every day in interest on personal loans alone (not including mortgages), and a total of £213bn a year in interest on all our debts.
2. It transfers money from the real economy to the banks
Businesses are also in a similar situation. The ‘real’ (non-financial), productive economy needs money to function, but because all money is created as debt, that sector also has to pay interest to the banks in order to function. This means that the real-economy businesses – shops, offices, factories etc — end up subsidising the banking sector.
3. It transfers money from the rest of the UK to the City of London
Banks pay their staff out of their profits, which in large part comes from the interest they charge on loans. Because most of the high earning bank staff work in the City of London, this results in a geographic transfer of wealth from the UK to those working in the City of London.
4. The instability that the system causes means that temporary and low-paid jobs are insecure
When banks cause a financial crisis it leads to unemployment. It tends to be low-paid and temporary contract workers who are the first to get made redundant first, so that instability in the economy has a bigger effect on those on low incomes with insecure jobs.
5. High house prices increase inequality
When house prices are pushed up by banks creating money, those on low incomes suffer the most. People on low incomes often can’t get a mortgage big enough to buy a house, so they don’t benefit from the rise in house prices. Meanwhile, those who can get access to mortgages can buy multiple houses for buy-to-let and benefit from artificial inflation in house prices. Younger people also lose out, as the cost of buying their first house swallows an ever larger amount of their income, while older and retired people who own houses benefit. This all increases inequality across different income groups and between the young and old.

Is this the beginning of the end for Monsanto? After reporting that the company is letting go of thousands of their workforce, the company is projecting not only weak sales of their GM corn, but also of one of their biggest, and now most controversial sellers – Roundup.
“Sales of corn seeds and traits, Monsanto’s key products, fell 5 percent to $598 million in the quarter. And sales at the company’s agricultural productivity unit, which includes Roundup herbicide, dropped 12 percent to $1.1 billion.”
Monsanto relies on its chemical herbicide sales for its shareholders, but since the World Health Organization’s IARC, and the state of California have announced that glyphosate, the main ingredient in Roundup, is probably carcinogenic, bans are cropping up all over the world
