California is trying to snuff out ham radio operators in the state by claiming their emergency services are no longer a benefit despite recent blackouts and the ongoing threat of wildfires.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) notified radio operators that they can no longer operate network repeaters, which make ham radios possible by extending their range, unless they pay significant rental fees for using public land.
“…With constantly changing technological advances, there is no longer the same [emergency] benefit to [the] state as previously provided,” reads the letter Cal Fire sent to operators. “Therefore, the department no longer financially supports ham operators, radios or tenancy.”

Willis & Bond with front company Compassion Housing raised tenants’ rents in July 2019 by $15 per week. These are the flats that were all but gifted to the property developers Willis &Bond, a sale that so many Horowhenua people vigorously opposed. At the time of the sale at a fire sale price the public were told the then current contracts with tenants would remain the same. Those were set to end however within 12 years.
Other changes introduced since the takeover have been the banning of cats for pensioners. Once pets that tenants currently own die, they are not allowed to obtain another. Since pets for the elderly are known to be very therapeutic. one is left wondering, what ever are Willis & Bond thinking?
Here in NZ we have entered a new era in terms of housing. We currently have 43K+ homeless and climbing, they are building hospices for the aged (hospices used to be for the terminally ill), your corporation that parades as a government is pondering on euthanasia, our state homes continue to disappear from availability as we speak (land banked, simply bulldozed as tenants tell me, or are sold to property developers) & Labour’s promise to replace them has been kicked a bit further down the road. Neo-lib economics. Profits are more important than people. Our forbears who worked hard to ensure all Kiwis were housed & fed would turn in their graves if they could see what is happening now.
Note: this situation in no way reflects on the staff of Compassion Housing or their quality of service as housing providers. They are doing their job as employees of the company they work for. However, when put up for sale by HDC it was promised the flats would go to a housing provider. They did not keep their promise, the flats were all but gifted to a property developer & many of us were not duped by the partnership that ensued.

As The Guardian reported Friday, the defense and aerospace contractor Sierra Nevada Corporation was authorized by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to send up to 25 balloons across six states to track vehicles.
U.S. Southern Command commissioned the project for the stated purpose of creating a “persistence surveillance system” to deter drug traffickers and perceived “homeland security threats.”
Civil liberties advocates were distressed at the newly-reported project on Friday, which the Sierra Nevada Corporation obtained a license to begin on July 12 and end on September 1.
“The deployment of this kind of surveillance capability in the United States is incredibly alarming,” Mana Azarmi, policy counsel for the Center for Democracy and Technology, told Common Dreams. “Persistent government surveillance, such as that facilitated by this technology, raises many civil liberties concerns and should not be permitted in the absence of a warrant.”
“Mass surveillance doesn’t make us safer,” the digital rights group Fight for the Future tweeted.

So here we have an ex Mayor who has devoted his term to showing that this modus operandi is simply in his opinion and the opinion of much of the NZ public just not right. Speaking truth however is not welcomed in a society that is proceeding under a corporate model where profits are more important than people. These videos are from the Mayor of Horowhenua, Michael Feyen. This is a ‘people’s Mayor’ who, like his former deputy Cr Ross Campbell, seems as much at home digging a haangi or drying dishes as he is wearing his mayoral chains. Just into his first term as Mayor however he had most of the councilors go public with a statement saying they supported not him but the CEO. For background to this situation read this article. His selected Deputy Mayor was unseated just hours into his term for speaking on social media about what looked like insider trading (and that hasn’t gone away, see Ross Campbell’s recent updates). This is all not surprising in light of the fact that these two have blown the whistle on quite a lot of things they saw as ‘not right’ in the course of their work in Council. Council pollution was another issue they highlighted. And so come this campaign the Mayor has had next to no coverage by media. Stone walled & neutered as he puts it himself, he has had a difficult uphill battle with a council that seems more intent on the business of property development than the interests both he & his former deputy would have liked to focus on. A keen supporter of retaining the Horowhenua community housing for instance, Mayor Feyen was removed from the housing committee because he had a conflict of interest! (ie he wanted to retain the housing … he had seen among other things opportunities for employment therein for the young people of the town, the same as his aspirations to pursue trapping of pests in lieu of the use of 1080 poison and of investing in the hemp growing industry). The list goes on, not a list shared largely by his colleagues. The housing sold for a song incidentally, to a property developer who then partnered with an established housing provider with promises to maintain the then status quo, however the contract ends in 2029 or thereabouts & just 18 months in they rents have already been raised.

A highlighted issue with this election has been the difficulty involved in voting (see Veronica Harrod’s info). This was the same last election when many folk did not receive their voting papers and the voting info office was frequently either unmanned or closed. Curious isn’t it?
So amidst the LG so called ‘sustainable’ councils up and down our clean green land (not) we have a raft of property developers busy with their public private partnerships selling up all of the public assets for a song. Then there has been the ongoing escalating debts of Councils. That has been an issue in the Horowhenua as well … it’s ‘good debt’ we’re frequently told. Currently, right on election time, the Horowhenua CE is away on holiday and has been for several weeks. This is the CE who was intercepting the emails of his staff for ‘safety reasons’ it was touted. Who paid a secret payment to a local iwi without the Mayor’s knowledge. Mayor Feyen is himself a staunch supporter of true partnership with Tangata Whenua & honouring the principles of the Treaty. Currently the Council’s real commitment appears to be mainly lipservice.

The latest version of the Global Historical Climatology Network from NOAA has completely removed the 1940?s blip, the global warming hiatus, and the 1940s to 1970s global cooling.
Climate scientists said they were going to do it, and they did it.
As of 45 years ago, there was no net warming from 1870 to 1970, and about 0.4C cooling from 1940 to 1970. That has all been erased.

The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Communications and the Arts has commenced a parliament-first inquiry into 5G network technology.
The announcement follows months of public outcry from concerned citizens and community action groups over the rollout of 5G in Australia.
The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Communications and the Arts have announced an inquiry into the deployment, adoption and application of 5G in Australia.
5G refers to the fifth generation of mobile technology, in line with the International Mobile Telecommunications-2020 (IMT-2020) Standard of the International Telecommunications Union and the associated releases of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
According to the official page, the committee will conduct research to:
Chairing the reviewing committee is Nationals MP Dr David Gillespie, alongside Deputy Chair, Labor MP Ed Husic and six committee members.
Interestingly, matters relating to national security are out of scope for this national inquiry.
In a media release, Dr Gillespie said “5G will transform the way we live and work, and provide opportunities for family life, industry and commerce” and the committee “want to hear about the opportunities and challenges of 5G”.
However, no date has been set for the committee to report back to the public.
The Australian government is also yet to formally respond to the announcement.
Communications Minister, Paul Fletcher, has assured Telstra that it is “backing high-speed 5G mobile network rollout plans” amid signs of a community backlash against the technology.
The government has promised a ‘stronger public stance’ over the technology’s safety.
Fletcher, who has been exposed as a former Director of telecommunications giant Optus, has met with executives for a demonstration of the high-speed 5G mobile networks several weeks ago, as the $42.6 billion telco continues to build the new infrastructure across the country.
A spokesman for Mr Fletcher declined to comment on the minister’s meeting with Telstra but said “the agency played an important role in providing authoritative advice to government and the community on matters of electromagnetic energy safety”.
This comes as growing groups of concerned citizens ramp up a campaign, which includes protests, council complaints, online petitions and flyers, against 5G technology and electromagnetic energy (EME) and radiation.
These national community action groups have formed to share information relating to 5G and to take action by hosting local events to connect with like-minded citizens.
The groups have staged protests in recent months across the country and have scheduled a number of protests and forums to oppose the rollout.
The government has been criticised for acting in the interests of telcos by some anti-5G groups, who are concerned the technology could lead to infertility and cancers.
The backlash has led to victories in locations such as Lathlain, Currumbin Valley and Sutherland Shire Council, all recently successful in bids to appeal 5G upgrades in the area.

Commiserations also to the bee keepers. I know this is not good news for you & your income. I have already been told by one bee keeper (a reliable source) who wishes to remain anonymous, that DoC dropped 1080 near their hives & cost them thousands of dollars. Children under 16 should be allowed to go ahead with irreversible transgender surgery against the wishes of both parents and without mandatory counselling, the Australian Psychological Society says.
As recently as last year, Family Court approval was needed for this surgery, notwithstanding parents and doctors all agreeing it would help an under-age patient suffering psychological distress about “being born in the wrong body”.
In an unpublished law reform submission, the peak body representing 24,000 psychologists says opposition of both parents should not stand in the way of a child under 16 consenting to surgery, such as a double mastectomy, as long as the doctors are “competent” in assessing the child’s capacity to make decisions.

This I find hypocritical, ironic as well, in light of a common question asked by landlords ‘how many of you will be living here?’ followed by the predictable statement … ‘you can’t bring all your family here to live’, the stereotype being that indigenous people like living together in over crowded conditions. Further on in this video they cite Asian families doing so & suddenly now it’s a great thing because it suits the liars’ agenda. Initially it was better for consumerism that we are all separate in separate households racking up purchases & inevitably debt these days because we have abandoned the old ways … and now the Agenda 21/30 agenda is for us to occupy cramped stack & pack housing in their smart cities and it’s all okay. Don’t be fooled folks, they really are not for you. They are for their own ends only. Sustainable Development aka Agenda 21 is a scam being foisted upon you by stealth. Remember the bedroom tax in the UK? They’ve hinted at it here as well with the last census asking for an indication of the number of rooms in our houses. Similarly with the remaining State Housing stock (the state asset that the corrupt corporates have flogged off for pennies on the dollar to developers, some 22% of it by the last government) … so when a person’s partner dies or a parent of children living in a state home, they swoop in with eviction notices because of ‘wasted’ space, and demand they move into smaller accommodation. At that previous link 5 grieving children are evicted prior to their mother’s taangi being arranged! And locals said this kind of occurrence was not uncommon. Now if you think I’m being conspiratorial just watch & see how it pans out. A reader contacted me some time ago with an OIA response from the Christchurch District Council stating that they aren’t following an Agenda 21 agenda and that this is actually called Sustainable Development. I note however that Kaikoura District Council does (scroll to ‘Earthcheck’). Agenda 21 is named on their website.
