In 2013 DoC’s helicopter tours and catered lunches failed to quell Māori opposition to aerial 1080 so they dropped it anyway … will this happen to Iwi that protect the Raukumara Reserve?

I was sent recently a NZ Herald article about NZ’s Dept of Conservation (DoC) teaming up with Ngāti Porou to protect the Raukumara Forest Park:

“Iwi including Ngāti Porou, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui, Te Ehutu, Ngāi Tai, Whakatōhea and Te Aitanga-ā-Mahaki, and affiliated hapū, have occupied and continued to maintain mana whenua on all flanks of the ranges.

DoC, which administers the park, was working on a co-ordinated approach regarding its management.

The last large-scale possum control operation was 20 years ago involving aerial application of 1080 pesticide. The region was free of tuberculosis (TB), which was partly why there had been little 1080 focus. There had also been strong local opposition.”

On reading the article I was reminded of Reihana Robinson’s well researched book on 1080 use in NZ called  ‘The Killing Nation’. In brief she describes what she terms DoC’s  ‘take a Māori into the bush’ strategy outlined in a Landcare Research paper by Chrys Horn & Margaret Kilvington titled ‘Maori and 1080’.  The paper investigates how to gain iwi ‘agreement’ to use 1080. It’s about ‘building trust’ they write as ‘research is, by itself, not sufficient to allay community & iwi concerns.’

They are clearly aware and acknowledge that ‘Iwi concerns are substantial’ citing ‘loss of native birds, poisoning of deer and dogs, the potential effect on water supplies and human health, and how poison disturbs spiritual principles.’

The authors, says Robinson, “focus on mind control. They don’t call it mind control. They use the term ‘perceived control’ and it is this underlying psychological construct that must be communicated to  ‘help’ Maori communities adapt to change and adversity”. How to get agreement on the use of 1080? … don’t focus on the merits of 1080, convince them of the “merits of pest control or eradicating Tb”.

Robinson describes Horn & Kilvington’s ‘paternalistic clanger’ …  “that ‘it is the element of choice that is important rather than the quality of the options’.”  They proceed to cite examples where local iwi agreed to 1080 without public outcry … ie ‘how to sell poison to Maori communities’.

Horn & Kilvington then stoop to the ultimate tactic of LYING by claiming there IS an antidote to 1080 poisoning. Patently untrue says Robinson.

Yes we environmentalists know that there is no antidote to 1080. That’s not rocket science at all.

See page 10 of this government document from the MOH (2015) stating there is no antidote to 1080.

“At a time when communities are increasingly negative about the use of 1080, time and resources must be allowed for consultation processes” say Horn & Kilvington. They are concerned that DoC staff do not “recognise the difference between information and consultation”.

(Note, environmentalists who have attended these consultation meetings will concur that the people with genuine concerns are not heard and the meetings are steered by the person at the front to effectively exclude them & to achieve a predetermined desired outcome. This manipulative method is called the Delphi technique, a method used also by councils when they ‘consult’ with you, see below the article).*

Proceeding to the main point here … Robinson describes “the critical role of Urewera Maori within DoC disclosed in the Landcare paper”… “DoC tried to give ‘all the community groups involved a high level of perceived  control over the possibility of aerial drops in the area’.

So DoC transported Maori into the Uruwera bush to show “damage caused by possums” and their effect on “birdlife”. DoC’s ‘take a Maori into the bush’ strategy did not work on Moehau in 2013.’ The lunches and the helicopter tours failed as described …

…then DoC went ahead & dropped the poison anyway.

Are you getting the gist now of DoC’s ‘consultation’ and what it really means?

I am going to add a pdf file here of this particular chapter of Robinson’s book so you can read it for yourself. (She did give me permission to quote and to reproduce the chapter for your perusal).  Perhaps you may be interested to purchase her book to read the entire scope of concern environmentalists both Maori & Pakeha alike have about the use of this Class 1A Ecotoxin in NZ’s environment. And about how DoC ‘get around’ Māori opposition and the need to consult.

DoC’s own census on Kea numbers reveals a decline from 60,000 in the 1970s, to an estimated 1 to 4,000 now … an open letter to Amanda Gillies

AN OPEN LETTER TO AMANDA GILLIES by Jeff Patchett

(posted by Carol Sawyer)

“Our little piece of paradise was ruined for ever”

Introduction: On yesterday’s ‘AM Show’, the usual garbage about people opposed to 1080 was spouted by Duncan Garner and Mark Richardson. (Go to ‘The AM Show Catch-Up’, 9 March, 2020 – and fast forward to 2 hours, 25 minutes.) According to them, anti-1080 people are a ‘loud, ignorant, uneducated group” of “extremists”. Amanda Gillies said there may be some issues with 1080 but she didn’t think it was “the devil incarnate”. However Amanda was not strident and fixed in her views than the other two, so Jeff Patchett of Brightwater, Nelson wrote her a letter. Here it is:

“Dear Amanda,

I am writing to you specifically because I respect you and your values. You have a compassionate heart.

I have always been a fan of The A.M. Show until Duncan Garner suggested Willie Apiata take some of the anti-1080 people into the bush and deal with them. I was absolutely appalled at these comments. My family here in Blenheim lost five men in the First World War (1914 Blenheim population approx. 2000). My Dad and uncle both served in WW2. Dad had an especially torrid time, as he fought at Monte Casino, one of the War’s most horrific battles. For Garner to say that he wished Willie would use some of his special skill set on fellow Kiwis makes a croc of shit out of the family fighting and dying for the Freedom of Speech. Is that not hate speech?

Anyway I didn’t watch you guys again until recently and nothing’s changed. The A.M. Show had a young speaker.. a man from “Forest and Bird” welcoming the government’s new initiative on Predator Free 2050. He is in a paid job and is only spouting his puppet masters’ views. How long would anyone in Forest and Bird, OSPRI, or DoC last if they had the balls to speak the truth on 1080 ? ‘Forest and Bird’ wrote to the Dept of Conservation in the mid-seventies, telling DoC they were not happy with the number of native birds 1080 was killing each year. Something changed their minds and they are now fully behind its use.

Garner mentioned (former Parliamentary Commissoner for the Environment) Jan Wright and her change of heart with 1080. (Please look up 1080science.co.nz and read for yourself how much the old girl got wrong).

I was 100% for 1080 in 1998 when the ‘powers that be’ came knocking to say we needed 1080 to kill the possums that infected my large cattle herd with bovine TB. (Australia has possums, they are protected natives and they have never been linked to TB. Incidentally bovine TB has been eradicated in Australia since 2002.)

Like most people in 1998, we knew nothing of 1080 and if it got rid of TB we would welcome it. I even suggested they could land the choppers on our lawn if it helped. Well, they completed the drop and buggered off and left us to it. A few days passed and my neighbour told us that he had just found our pet Wekas in the house water supply. I spent the next three weeks dragging dead pigs, deer, and a large assortment of birds from the creek, and its many tributaries, that was our drinking water. I was the only one in our family to get a guts ache from the water.

About a month went by and the full impact of the drop hit us. The bush that normally teemed with birds was quiet. We have never seen a single Tomtit or heard a Ruru, even to this day. Our little piece of paradise was ruined for ever.

Things got worse though. After Christmas dinner we walked to the top of our mountain (Mt.Patriarch) and waited for the Kea to show up. Even their high-pitched screams would have been enough, but not even that happened. My son and I visited the tops several more times and again no Kea. They were gone. Generations of people had witnessed these cheeky birds and DoC had killed the lot – all 23 of them gone.

I then followed up on other Kea colonies that I knew of. They all seemed to disappear after 1080 drops. Mt Robert, the Rainbow, and Ferny Gair all had Kea until 1080 was used. I believe there are now no Kea in Marlborough. These declines in Kea numbers are reflected in DoC’s own census – sixty thousand in the 1970’s, to between one thousand and four thousand now. I personally believe the number to be less than a thousand ( 600?). Rats, stoats, and possums were about in the 1970’s in as big a number as today. The Kea’s habitat has not changed at all, and even redneck Mark Richardson and Duncan Garner would have to agree that DoC’s ‘lead head nail’ story is absolute bullshit. DoC have, with the help of OSPRI, put our alpine clown bird on the endangered list. They will make them extinct in the wild the way they are going.

Contrary to what redneck Mark said about anti-1080 people being a fringe element there are 300,000 people on ‘Ban 1080’ sites. We are bigger than “Forest and Bird”. We are made up of all sorts of folk. We have scientists (two in my family alone), builders, lawyers, doctors, teachers, anyone who can think for themselves and anyone who takes the time to look into the 1080 issue with an open mind. Also there are thousands who, like me, have witnessed the horror of 1080 for themselves. In 2018 a poll of newspaper readers in Blenheim was taken by the Marlborough Express on the banning of 1080. Almost four thousand people responded – 85% against 1080. On the West Coast of the South Island a survey found that figure to be a massive 93% against 1080. Even DoC’s own poll in 2016 had the anti-1080’s at over 60%.

Most anti-1080 people have more then one reason why 1080 should go. Here are mine:

1) It is extremely cruel. I have lost six dogs to it and have witnessed one dog die from it. Not very pleasant.

2) It has entered our food chain. Wild game and some fish with sub-lethal doses. Also what about the cattle and sheep that have eaten it and not died from it ?

3) Tourists are responding negatively to the signage. Trout fishermen are no longer coming.

4) The users of 1080 are not following the guidelines – i.e. keep out of water, bury dead animals, pick up unused bait.

5) It’s killing non-target animals. A survey of 10% of NZ vets in one year put the tally of 1080-poisoned dogs brought to them at 65. (Former PCE Jan Wright knew of only 7 poisoned dogs. There were 18 poisoned dogs in our 1080 drop alone.)

6) It is a teratogen – i.e.causes abnormalities to the unborn. DoC are finding this in baby Kea and other birds.

7) 1080 has ruined a very valuable export market. The wild game and fur industries were huge in the 1970’s – 80’s. Probably worth half a billion in today’s money.

8) Takes natural food away from people who can’t afford to pay for meat. This has a huge impact on families in the far north and on the West Coast.

9) Clean and Green NZ. Yeah right. “Forest and Bird’ and DoC always say “Look at the science”. Their own scientist in the 1960’s told them it would be a disaster to use 1080 ( Dr. Mike Mead). His scientist peers agreed, but it still happened.

Most of DoC’s ‘science’ can be picked to bits with not much trouble. There are dozens of far cleverer people than the underpaid DoC scientists, and if TV3 gave them a chance to speak ,on nationwide TV, 1080 would be gone tomorrow.

All I wish, Amanda, is that you look into 1080 with an open mind. Mark has self-promotion and the National Party on his, so I would never expect any change in his attitude. Duncan Garner acts out of ignorance and I bet he has never for one moment thought an opposing view on 1080. Maori believe the Morepork (Ruru) takes their soul to heaven. Duncan won’t get there because that particular bird will be dead (extinct) long before he is.

Kind regards,

Jeff Patchett

The Effects of Imprinting Kids to Kill Animals

Horrific killing contests lead to “dead animals, children and huge smiles.”

Ed Note @ 10/5/25: An interesting recent related link has been added at the end

From psychologytoday.com

“There’s something desperately awful about taking a child out to experience nature by handing them a gun and telling them to kill it. That’s like going to the most beautiful art museum in the world and ripping down canvasses because ‘someone will just make another one.’ It teaches children that killing is a goal, a healthy way to view another life and socially acceptable.“ —Kayla Simon, Hunting perpetuates cruelty, teaches violence

There are more humane ways of dealing with ‘invasive species’ than 1080, world-renowned conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall says.”

“The effects of imprinting kids to kill animals are bad news.” —Email from a concerned mother in New Zealand

Killing animals in sanctioned school events and family outings is business as usual in parts of New Zealand

In New Zealand, youngsters are trained to kill nonhuman animals (animals) in sanctioned school and family events. While many kids really enjoy them, it’s good that not all of them do. However, those who don’t want to partake often don’t know what to do because they’re told they have to participate or are ridiculed by other students. Two years ago, I received an email from a 9-year-old New Zealander asking me (via a parent), “Why is it wrong to not want to kill animals?” In his note, I could feel his concern and pain—how could anyone think it’s wrong to try to save lives, but okay to kill animals because some people don’t like them and think they’re some sort of “pest.”  I agree with Jane Goodall when she says, “I abhor the use of the word pest.”

Concerning youngsters killing other animals and enjoying it, yesterday I received two incredibly disturbing emails informing me about a horrific killing contest that took place in Ōpōtiki, New Zealand. The first was an essay by Lynley Tulloch titled “The McDonaldification Of Hunting: Training Children To Kill In Opotiki” and the second, a video called “Ōpōtiki youngsters get stuck into hunting competition designed just for them.

Most unfortunately, these are not isolated incidents in a country in which many people who take part in their brutal war on wildlife are hell-bent on eliminating all non-native animals by 2050.1,2 For example, possum hunting competitions regularly occur in rural New Zealand schools, and these often involve “dressing up dead possums for competitions, hurling them in throwing competitions and carrying them over obstacle courses” as Dr. Tulloch notes.

Unfortunately, in this reprehensible war on wildlife, a good number of non-target animals also are killed using brutal methods involving the horrific poison 1080 along with trapping, snaring, shooting, and bludgeoning. Numerous references about many different aspects of New Zealand’s assault on wildlife can be found in an essay called “Jane Goodall Says Don’t Use 1080, Jan Wright Says Use More.”

Watching the sickening video “Ōpōtiki youngsters get stuck into hunting competition designed just for them.” isn’t easy, and I want you to know this before you do. It’s said a picture is worth a thousand words, and I’m sure that this film will generate many more. This horrific event was designed by “a group of hunting mums” for youngsters under 16. In the article accompanying the video we read, “Hunting is a big part of life in the eastern Bay of Plenty and the Opotiki Little 3 – that took place over the weekend – encourages kids to get involved by attempting to bag the largest number of possums, magpie and rabbit.” One mother said, “Most of us have full time jobs as well as doing this but we do it for the kids so… it’s worth it to see their smiles!” These are smiles from violently “bagging” sentient beings.

The link between violence toward nonhumans and violence toward humans

It’s well known that there is a link between violence directed toward nonhumans and violence directed toward humans.3 Ms. Tulloch writes “Opotiki, dubbed the homicide capital of New Zealand, is a small town with a huge reputation for domestic violence and murder. It has been reported that Opotiki had 1.25 homicides for every 1000 people between 2004 and 2019–and this is the highest rate in the country.” Clearly, Opotiki has issues with violence, “yet, as a community they have come together to teach their children that violence toward another living creature is socially acceptable. Not only acceptable, but something to be glorified through gamifying it in a competition.”

There are many things that are very wrong with organized and sanctioned killing contests—it’s really bad news that they exist and it’s worse news that kids smile after “bagging” the animals—and it’s good that not all youngsters want to engage in them. There still are many people who don’t know they occur and it’s essential to inform a wide audience that they are a reality of life—business as usual—in various parts of New Zealand.

Gretchen Wyler since famously said, “Cruelty can’t stand the spotlight,” and I hope that more and more people will strongly oppose these slaughter fests. Nothing “good” comes out of them, and it’s well-known that a lot of “bad” can stem from training youngsters to kill other animals for fun and games. As Dr. Tulloch correctly stresses, “Wake up, New Zealand. It is not rocket science to see the link between the many forms of violence. It’s a one-way street. And it has a dead end.”

Stay tuned for further discussion on how New Zealand youngsters continue to be trained in inhumane education of the most egregious kind. I’m encouraged that I receive numerous emails from New Zealanders—kids and adults—who are deeply concerned about what’s happening and want to know how to put an end to “this most despicable form of schooling,” as one parent put it. Just after I posted this essay I received this email from a woman in New Zealand: “Oh my goodness–I am going to have to read this to my daughter who was so bereft after what should have been a great school field trip turned into a nightmare where a ranger showed them all how to trap a possum and essentially to get used to it as that’s what conservation looks like. She’s been beside herself about it ever since…”

New Zealand continues to have major animal welfare issues. We can only hope that as people learn about what’s happening in parts of New Zealand, they will work hard to be sure that this sort of violent inhumane education doesn’t happen in their own communities. Imprinting kids to kill animals is bad news, can have horrific long-term effects, and should be stopped immediately.

HUMAN BEINGS FALL BETWEEN THE CRACKS WHEN IT COMES TO 1080 POISON

by Carol Sawyer

I did a post earlier today about the Ministry of Primary Industries’ Official Information Act response to an OIA request. Their response (see below) quoted the Animal Welfare Act. The AWA said “If a non-target animal is killed despite using 1080 in accordance with the approved controls, then there is no offence committed under the AWA (section 30A (5))”.

With regard to the AWA comment Peter Marshall pointed out, on ‘Upper Clutha Community Notices’ Facebook page, that “… that includes humans then.”

I thought Peter was onto something, (well, wouldn’t you ?) and I wrote a Facebook post about it. However later, when looking at the section regarding “interpretations” in the AWA I found that, for the purposes of the Animal Welfare Act, humans are not classed as animals.

So I deleted my post. Apologies to those who had shared it.

But that is pretty interesting really, isn’t it? The Animal Welfare Act says we are not animals. What are we then?

Also, if as a human being you suspect you have suffered 1080 poisoning you can’t get tested either, despite many ‘Dept of Conservation’ signs at 1080 poison drops saying that if you suspect poisoning you should contact the National Poisons Centre.

See my conversation with the National Poisons Centre here:

I guess that means we humans are between a 1080 bait and a hard place😔

Christopher was previously working at high level in Brussels with the EU in helping to cement the global climate change narrative until he realized the truth and the true agenda.  He has now given away that career, based himself in Dunedin, and is dedicating himself to raising awareness of the truth about the real climate change agenda, geoengineering, HAARP, and eco-terrorism.

Great to see someone like Christopher, with his background, now stepping away and taking on a mission like this.  Very brave move. Christopher was invited to speak at Waitangi Day where he was able to speak for 15 minutes about the climate change deception and geo-engineering where he received an open and positive response. He is now working on raising funds so that he can take his presentation on tour in NZ.

It’s no accident the entire world faces rising house prices, homelessness & poverty : watch Bilderberg the Movie & learn who really controls the world

Pam Vernon's avatarEnvironmental Health Watch NZ

From Jenese James

I watched Bilderberg The Movie last night –  (written & Produced by Daniel Estulin, Directed by Joan Cutrina).  I have read his books, and asked him if anyone from NZ has been to Bilderbergs, but that was quite a few years ago – over a decade – when I used to write about these sorts of things – he said to his knowledge no – I might ask him again since it was before the days of John Key. I highly recommend watching this documentary on Prime for free or hire/buy it at this link – if you are not familiar with how things work then this will open your eyes.

Any how – its really important to comprehend that we are living in the time of revealing – where nothing can be hidden not even by these people – now they are all in plain sight…

Australian women win landmark surgical mesh case – but Kiwi women can’t sue

From Stuff

Australian women suffering life-long complications from transvaginal surgical mesh have won a landmark case against pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson and two of its affiliated companies.

Federal Court Justice Anna Katzmann found in favour of the group of 1200 women in the case against Johnson & Johnson on Thursday.

Complications included chronic inflammatory reaction, erosion of mesh into surrounding organs, infection, chronic pain, pain with sex, incontinence, damage to surrounding tissues, haemorrhage, leg weakness, further surgery and psychological injury.

The mesh products were used to treat stress urinary incontinence or uterus prolapse after childbirth in Australia and New Zealand.

Katzmann said Johnson & Johnson and mesh manufactures Ethicon Sarl and Ethicon Inc engaged in misleading conduct, and each was negligent as the risks for the devices were “known, and not insignificant”.

ACC paid out $325,221 to NZers for vaccine injuries during the period mid 2017 to mid 2018

An OIA request reveals that during the period 1-July-2017 to 30-June-208 a sum of $325,221 was paid out in NZ for vaccine injuries. The intent of pointing this out is to draw your attention to the  claim that injuries from vaccines are extremely extremely rare. Whilst that my once have been the case, currently the stats in the US are recorded by CDC as 1 in 39. Not by any stretch of the imagination ‘rare’. Having this information is crucial when making the decision to vaccinate. Do ask for the inserts to the vaccine to learn the risks of side effects or risk of injury as frequently these are not pointed out. There is many a testimony online of people who became injured and wish they had asked. This all of course is called informed consent. Very important when using the precautionary approach to all things health. Bear in mind also that many injuries are not reported.

Let’s learn our real histories

Now I’m putting a focus today on this issue because it’s Waitangi day here in Enzed.

We live currently in a world that sees lying as ok. We used to have a world that honoured truth on paper at least, in our ideals, in our official statements whilst nevertheless serving us up history books that omitted much pertinent stuff and blatantly lied about other stuff. (Yes the old saying ‘the victors write the histories’ and write them they did). And now we have officially adopted a business model (since Rogernomics particularly) in which well, it’s ok to lie. As I used to oft repeat, watch The Corporation movie (found on our Corporations page) and see that in fact corporations, likened by the appropriate professionals to psychopathic personalities where yes, lying is the norm. Do watch it … it explains a lot about why our world has left the gold standard of truth.

So yes it’s Waitangi Day. Commemoration of that day we all ‘became one’ so to speak. Well at least that is what was said on the day it was signed along with the giving of tobacco and blankets. I’m focusing particularly on telling our true histories because so many do not know them & they sadly become the basis of a lot of misunderstanding. A post I saw this morning on FB raised objection to the selling of golliwog dolls in a coastal NZ town (and wait, I explain why in a minute). The writer expressed her objection & stated she would not be purchasing anything from the said shop and why, after which the whole post was taken down. Re posted, it then attracted the usual ‘what’s wrong with golly’ etc etc etc. This is how I commented: The term ‘wog’ actually stands for ‘wily Oriental gentleman’. My father who served in the Middle East (World War 2) told me this … it is a derogatory term for colored peoples. A racist term. It intimates that they are sly & not to be trusted. Bit like the term ‘caught red handed’ referring to Indian peoples. The ironic & shrewd twist about this is that the peoples who coined the terms were in fact the wily ones as implied, the real thieves of land and resources. That’s why they came after all. It wasn’t to help (aka civilize) I’m afraid as we’ve largely been told. The truly wily thing is that this crucial info was never taught us in schools. Such info as how Maori soldiers returned from serving in the two World Wars only to find some of their lands confiscated and given to returning white soldiers. Or, lands promised them not given. Or, that millions of acres of lands were confiscated aka stolen by the colonial government. Or that we once had segregated picture theaters. And segregated Plunket. So we grew up thinking it was all good. This is why people share this info so folk know … it’s not because they’re ‘dwelling on the past’ and ‘need to go forwards’. These histories are all well documented. This is how we end up with convos like those I see here because the folk do not have all the information. Really it’s about respect for others. Learn the real histories. By way of illustration on this point, imagine if we had never learned the history of Nazi Germany & the extermination of millions of Jews, Gypsies & homosexuals, and Grandma at Christmas time made nice cushions and embroidered them all with swastika signs she saw in a design book & gave them to her Jewish neighbors. Same thing regarding their predictable reaction. Grandma would be saying ‘what’s your problem’? Hiding the histories works like a charm. And anyway I certainly won’t be buying any gifts from that gift shop in question when I visit Waitarere. Same as I don’t anywhere else in the country. It’s the only way to make the point in a country that is now married to the business model. If the entire district sent the message they wouldn’t be buying from the said shop for the said reason then of course they’d be removed pronto. BTW my father was ‘half caste’ … he told us that folk in the 1920s would cross the street rather than talk to him & his siblings. And we were taught at school we’re ‘all one’? This friends is why we need to all learn the histories so that when any of the said stolen lands are compensated for (& note never for their true current value, just a tiny proportion) that this is Maori privilege. It’s not. The said Treaty after all did promise undisturbed possession of etc etc etc …. google it and read it for yourself.

For starters here is one history you won’t have read … I posted it here not so long ago… from snoopman.net.nz

The Masonic New Zealand Wars: Freemasonry as a Secret Mechanism of Imperial Conquest During the ‘Native Troubles’

By Steve ‘Snoopman’ Edwards

Re-Discovering the Big-Picture of Empire in Aotearoa

One hundred and forty-five years after the wars between native Māori and British imperial and colonial forces ended, most New Zealanders remain oblivious to the conflicts’ Masonic underpinnings. For those not disposed to empathize with Māori, this obliviousness works as a vector that transmits racism throughout the British-American tax haven jurisdiction of New Zealand. Furthermore, this racial prejudice persists structurally throughout the realm of New Zealand’s major and significant economic, political and cultural institutions.

This colour-based prejudice against the native people of New Zealand hides a largely ignored problem of class-stratification, or a hierarchy of privilege based on economic wealth accumulation, control of key institutions and the valourization of status addiction. It is no small irony that when the framing of discussions on racial prejudice does widen to include the phenomenon of a hierarchically class-structured society, such discourses frequently fail to nail the root cause of systemic material inequality or structural dispossession: Oligarchism.

During the period of New Zealand Wars (1845-1872), the secret society of Freemasonry was, essentially, an expression of oligarchism, which is the belief in the right of super-rich people to rule over humanity through the structural domination of resources, including institutions, covert networks and the exploitation of secret mechanisms. Historians of the New Zealand Wars and the New Zealand’s formative history have largely overlooked the instrumental role that Freemasonry played to absorb New Zealand into the British Empire. While some prominent Freemasons are mentioned in the 1940 edition of the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography published by the Department of Internal Affairs, this ‘Who’s Who’ compendium of New Zealand hardly captures the brotherhood’s secret network of key players. Freemason papers, proceedings and their lodge books, many of which were not intended for public eyes, provide some details of their esteemed brethren, ‘noble’ heroes and fallen brothers. Together, these hard-to-find works provide partial lists of those who fought in the various regiments, volunteer militia and forest rangers, as well as those embedded across New Zealand’s hymn-singing protestant political-commercial-military establishment.

NZ’s 43K homeless – shame, Roger Douglas!

EnvirowatchRangitikei Read up on Douglas’s globalist Neo Liberal economics experiment that they crow was a success. Was for them but for the majority, complete disaster. Screwed our nation big time & still doing it. Liars. He is a SIR now. You can hear him interviewed recently at this link. He claims his policies worked & witness the fact no successive govts changed them. That is because they are also globalists (not to mention also that ours and theirs are corporations not governments). Meanwhile we have child poverty (2nd highest in developed world), high suicide rate & yes, 43K homeless. The Nats sold off our state housing. Thousands of good homes to access the real estate under them. These people are thieves and robbers.  They are not serving the NZ people at all. They simply pretend to. EWR

UN finds NZ breached Convention against Torture in Lake Alice abuse allegations – their ‘expert’ electroshocked genitals of boys

NZ GOVT IN BREACH OF TORTURE CONVENTION AFTER THEIR “EXPERT” TORTURED GENITALS OF BOYS —- UNITED NATIONS DECISION UPHOLDS COMPLAINT

NIGEL GRAY 29 DEC 2019 — In a landmark decision United Nations have upheld that the NZ Police failed to prosecute a NZ Govt expert psychiatrist who tortured young boy’s with electroshock on their genitals. This is a result of the complaint by Citizens Commission on Human Rights.

United Nations finds New Zealand breached Convention against Torture in Lake Alice abuse allegations

The United Nations has found New Zealand breached the Convention against Torture by failing to properly investigate abuse at Lake Alice Hospital in the 1970s. Newshub Nation spoke to five men who claimed psychiatrist Selwyn Leeks electrocuted their genitals as a punishment while at the Manawatu hospital. Leeks has never faced charges, which prompted victim Paul Zentveld to go to the UN.

Glimmer of hope for Lake Alice survivors. Zentveld said he was diagnosed with a behavioural disorder by Leeks in 1974, who then tortured him. “They had you sitting in the chair or lying on the bed – nurses holding you down. You had no choice.”
Zentveld, who was helped with his UN complaint by the Patient Rights Group called Citizens Commission on Human Rights, calls the UN’s decision a “victory” for all survivors.
Repeated attempts to contact Leeks, who now lives in Australia, have been unsuccessful, but he’s always denied any wrongdoing. Zentveld and 194 former patients received a Government apology and compensation in the 2000s, but police decided there was insufficient evidence to prosecute Leeks. But evidence is building, as other former patients have come forward with similar allegations. “He applied shock treatment to my genitals. Left with permanent marks on the underside of my penis,” Marty Brandt said.
“The genitals was his favourite spot. It was just straight pain,” another victim Charlie Symes said. A third victim Malcolm Richards said the electrocution appliance sparked and he received a burn on the end of his penis. Zentveld said no matter what Government officials say, “torture on the testicles is pretty serious”. The decision by police to not prosecute Leeks has now been criticised by the UN Committee Against Torture. In its judgement, the Committee expressed concern that authorities made insufficient efforts to establish what happened to children like Zentveld at Lake Alice.
As a result, New Zealand violated its obligations to properly investigate his claims of torture and had endorsed actions leading to impunity for Leeks. The Government and police are still considering the findings, but detectives have already re-opened their investigation into Zentveld’s case. Meanwhile, the Royal Commission into State Abuse says it will examine police and the Government’s response to Zentveld. The UN has urged a prompt investigation into Zentveld’s allegations and prosecutions where appropriate.

Figures in a new report suggest the number of NZ children living in serious poverty is greater than the population of Dunedin

Thanks to thecontrail.com for this link

From odt.co.nz

Figures in a new report suggest the number of children living in serious poverty is greater than the population of Dunedin.

The 2019 Child Poverty Monitor also shows that those living in areas of high deprivation are three times more likely than other children to be admitted to hospital.

Children’s Commissioner Andrew Becroft said the affected children were often going without shoes, healthy food or easy public transport access to doctors and dental care.

“We have 254,000 children living in households with less than half the median income after paying for their housing.”

He said big and bold changes were required to support the 148,000 children needing help.

Stats NZ says Dunedin’s population is a little over 130,000,

“I want to see family incomes dramatically raised by increasing benefits and making the minimum wage a living wage,” Mr Becroft said.

“And the government needs to move much faster at increasing the supply of social housing – building, buying and repurposing – and working closely with community-based housing providers.”

The annual Child Poverty Monitor is the work of a partnership between the Office of the Children’s Commissioner, Otago University’s Child and Youth Epidemiology Service and the J R McKenzie Trust.

Mr Becroft was pleased with Child Poverty Reduction legislation, the Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy, and linking benefits to wages.

“Government has made increases in Working for Families, Best Start for Children, and winter energy payments. This is a fantastic start.

“But we need to see significant and permanent changes to unlock opportunities for those doing it hardest. One-offs aren’t going to cut it anymore.”

He told Morning Report there were two aspects to be addressed.

“We need an increase in incomes, some courageous decisions about benefits. Secondly we need to massively increase state housing supply. Housing, income levels are crucial.”

He said benefit needed a 20 percent to 40 percent increase at the minimum – that’s a $2 billion spend.

“We’re playing catch up to make up when benefits were slashed in 1991. We’ve never recovered from that. The gap between benefits and wage growth has got wider and wider.”

‘We’ve got the money in the bank’

He suggested free lunches rolled out across more schools, free dental and mental care through to ages 18 or 21.

“We’re talking about families struggling on $400 to $500 a week, where over half of that – as it is for almost all beneficiaries – is on housing, the rest is left for essentials.”

He said there was usually next to nothing left for sports clubs registrations, music lessons, or birthday gifts for friends.

“We’ve got the money in the bank, we just need to commit ourselves to prioritising children.”

He said the minimum wage going up in the next year was a great step.

“There’s been great economic growth in New Zealand,” he said.

“We could spend pretty easily. We could do for the under 18s what we did for the over 65s if we had the will.”

Gerry Forde of the Spirit Army organisation in Invercargill that helps struggling families said while government agencies provided good support, it’s not the government or money that could solve poverty – it was the community.

Mr Forde said for many of the families they were helping, trauma was one of the biggest causes of their poverty.

“Money’s not the problem. The problem – and this is the reality for most of the problems in society – is these parents have been terribly and horrifically abused as children. And that has destroyed their sense of identity, their belief in themselves. This is exactly how all of them will talk to you,” he said.

“They fundamentally believe they are a piece of crap. And how can anyone who has that basic belief ever achieve anything in life?”

Spirit Army mentors have helped get beneficiaries off their benefits and back into the workforce, they’ve prevented parents from attempting suicide and have connected families to social groups for support.

Mr Forde said the path wasn’t always straightforward, but they’d seen a lot of people set free from some of their struggles.

It’s been revealed that when White Island emergency calls began Police & rescue services decided not to go – the first responders were NZ citizens

Thanks to reader Jo Blogs for this link… (for background info read this post):

“Those nearby, and back on the mainland, reacted instantly and humanely. They ran, flew, and sped by boat toward the danger. Politicians and officials have praised these as “first responders”. Their use of the phrase was a dishonest attempt to hide that these people were not official first responders, but ordinary people. “

From stuff.co.nz

OPINION: The tragedy at Whakaari/White Island last week exposed a growing institutional cowardice among emergency services, particularly police, that affects their usefulness to citizens.

When the eruption occurred, and the emergency calls started on Monday afternoon, police and rescue services decided that they would not head to the island to help.

It was left to my fellow citizens to respond with māia (courage). Those nearby, and back on the mainland, reacted instantly and humanely. They ran, flew, and sped by boat toward the danger.

Politicians and officials have praised these as “first responders”. Their use of the phrase was a dishonest attempt to hide that these people were not official first responders, but ordinary people.

* Recovery teams leave island empty handed after search for bodies

Mark Law, a helicopter pilot with Kāhu NZ, heard that emergency services were not heading to White Island. He and others, including Tim Barrow and colleagues from Volcanic Air, flew out and landed on the island. They rescued some survivors – particularly members of the group that had been closest to the erupting crater.

Law hauntingly describes the island soon after the eruption as “silent”. The air permeated by gases and ground dusted with ash. Survivors, their burns awful to comprehend, weakly called for help. Our untrained heroes were there for them. Our trained rescue services were not.

When police finally got their act together, they used their authority to prevent further private rescues or body recovery.

Let’s assume that, as some people seem to be arguing, it is OK for state professionals, trained for, paid for, and possibly even keen to respond to emergencies, to refuse to attend one.

It does not follow that they can prevent others from assessing risk differently and taking it. But I believe that the official cordon was a kind of post-incident justification for managerial cowardice.

Police also used an official flight over the island, and brief landing on it, to provide “evidence” justifying their decisions. These flights usefully allowed officials to claim there were no signs of life, and that conditions on the island were not conducive to a rescue.

The flight did not see all the bodies.  The helicopter crew that landed and concluded unsafe conditions was clearly wrong, as brave people had already landed and effected a rescue.

Police divers prepare to search the waters near Whakaari/White Island for missing bodies on Saturday.
NZ Police
Police divers prepare to search the waters near Whakaari/White Island for missing bodies on Saturday.

The state made a big deal about the risk in recovery of bodies. GNS estimated the risk of a second eruption at higher than 50 per cent. Police used that percentage, and the GNS risk zone maps, to justify the decision not to recover bodies. Neither of these are go/don’t go assessments. The complexity of the volcano, and the uncertainty built into those numbers, means they are not thresholds for action.

Despite the risk and continued “level 2” status, daring Defence Force teams finally undertook a speedy recovery of most of the bodies. Then the police claimed the same conditions meant there could be no further recovery action.

The GNS risk measurements were a prop. The decision to go in was based on very human factors: personnel who are ready to volunteer, families who are waiting, international attention, and politicians not enjoying the public pressure.

Mark Blackham: “The response to the White Island tragedy is a stark insight into the continued creep of managerialism.”

When, in 2012, I criticised police prevention of rescue of workers at Pike River mine, I blamed the insidious creep of “managerialism”; a preference for process over action. Cultural trends, such as fixations on health and safety, infect management systems with an endless loop of passing responsibility.

The response to the White Island tragedy is a stark insight into the continued creep of managerialism. It undermines the ability of state services to help citizens, but empowers it to infantilise us.

We’re discouraged from acting on our own, and forced to bow to experts. Yet systems and fancy talk prevent experts taking substantive action for fear of career, safety, or arbitrary consequences for taking the “wrong” action. In these environments, there are no career prospects for heroes.

What White Island tells you is that, when disaster occurs, you really are on your own. It may be time for citizens to make private provision for security and emergency; collectively or commercially purchasing or organising policing, rescue and fire response.

The state’s sophistication has cemented inaction. The police and government are turning cowardice into a professional duty. I see no value in paying for it through my taxes. It certainly makes them unfit to tell us what to do.

As citizens, it is down to us to help ourselves. To paraphrase our brave pilot Mark Law: “We must take care of our own business.”

America’s new animal cruelty law that ignores 99% of animal cruelty is not unlike NZ’s that sanctions a long cruel death by 1080

This post on changed laws in the US reminds me of NZ’s situation with 1080 that allows the long slow cruel death a vet has described as 2+ days of slow electrocution. The NZ authorities tweaked the Animal Welfare act to exempt the spreaders of aerially dropped 1080 poison from prosecution for cruelty. Same thing really isn’t it? Cruel but it’s deemed ‘okay’ because they are killing off everything non native for the biodiversity program we were signed up to under Agenda 21 now Agenda 2030. A truly ‘sustainable’ (not) practice. Unless of course it’s your pet dog, cat or other animal. EWR

From veganista.co  via exposingthebiggame.wordpress.com

“According to The Washington Post, the PACT Act “outlines exemptions for humane euthanasia; slaughter for food; recreational activities such as hunting, trapping and fishing; medical and scientific research; ‘normal veterinary, agricultural husbandry, or other animal management practice’; and actions that are necessary ‘to protect the life or property of a person.’”

Of course animal cruelty to dogs and cats by private citizens should be dealt with severely. But what about the billions of animals tortured each year on America’s factory farms? Or how about the tens of thousands of animals, including dogs and cats, who are tested on and mistreated in laboratories?

Can we actually say we’re cracking down on animal cruelty when we still allow SeaWorld to keep cetaceans captive and force them to perform? Or permit insanely cruel practices like fur trapping and bow hunting?”

Did you know NZ is a leader in governmental use of AI?… there’s been a call for an independent regulator here to monitor & address the associated risks of the tech

From theconversation.com

New Zealand is a leader in government use of artificial intelligence (AI). It is part of a global network of countries that use predictive algorithms in government decision making, for anything from the optimal scheduling of public hospital beds to whether an offender should be released from prison, based on their likelihood of reoffending, or the efficient processing of simple insurance claims.

But the official use of AI algorithms in government has been in the spotlight in recent years. On the plus side, AI can enhance the accuracy, efficiency and fairness of day-to-day decision making. But concerns have also been expressed regarding transparency, meaningful human control, data protection and bias.

In a report released today, we recommend New Zealand establish a new independent regulator to monitor and address the risks associated with these digital technologies.

Read more: To protect us from the risks of advanced artificial intelligence, we need to act now

AI and transparency

There are three important issues regarding transparency.

One relates to the inspectability of algorithms. Some aspects of New Zealand government practice are reassuring. Unlike some countries that use commercial AI products, New Zealand has tended to build government AI tools in-house. This means that we know how the tools work.

But intelligibility is another issue. Knowing how an AI system works doesn’t guarantee the decisions it reaches will be understood by the people affected. The best performing AI systems are often extremely complex.

To make explanations intelligible, additional technology is required. A decision-making system can be supplemented with an “explanation system”. These are additional algorithms “bolted on” to the main algorithm we seek to understand. Their job is to construct simpler models of how the underlying algorithms work – simple enough to be understandable to people. We believe explanation systems will be increasingly important as AI technology advances.

A final type of transparency relates to public access to information about the AI systems used in government. The public should know what AI systems their government uses as well as how well they perform. Systems should be regularly evaluated and summary results made available to the public in a systematic format.

Read more: Avoid the politics and let artificial intelligence decide your vote in the next election

New Zealand’s law and transparency

Our report takes a detailed look at how well New Zealand law currently handles these transparency issues.

New Zealand doesn’t have laws specifically tailored towards algorithms, but some are relevant in this context. For instance, New Zealand’s Official Information Act (OIA) provides a right to reasons for decisions by official agencies, and this is likely to apply to algorithmic decisions just as much as human ones. This is in notable contrast to Australia, which doesn’t impose a general duty on public officials to provide reasons for their decisions.

But even the OIA would come up short where decisions are made or supported by opaque decision systems. That is why we recommend that predictive algorithms used by government, whether developed commercially or in-house, must feature in a public register, must be publicly inspectable, and (if necessary) must be supplemented with explanation systems.

Human control and data protection

Another issue relates to human control. Some of the concerns around algorithmic decision-making are best addressed by making sure there is a “human in the loop,” with a human having final sign off on any important decision. However, we don’t think this is likely to be an adequate solution in the most important cases.

Read more: Automated vehicles may encourage a new breed of distracted drivers

A persistent theme of research in industrial psychology is that humans become overly trusting and uncritical of automated systems, especially when those systems are reliable most of the time. Just adding a human “in the loop” will not always produce better outcomes. Indeed in certain contexts, human collaboration will offer false reassurance, rendering AI-assisted decisions less accurate.

With respect to data protection, we flag the problem of “inferred data”. This is data inferred about people rather than supplied by them directly (just as when Amazon infers that you might like a certain book on the basis of books it knows you have purchased). Among other recommendations, our report calls for New Zealand to consider the legal status of inferred data, and whether it should be treated the same way as primary data.

Bias and discrimination

A final area of concern is bias. Computer systems might look unbiased, but if they are relying on “dirty data” from previous decisions, they could have the effect of “baking in” discriminatory assumptions and practices. New Zealand’s anti-discrimination laws are likely to apply to algorithmic decisions, but making sure discrimination doesn’t creep back in will require ongoing monitoring.

The report also notes that while “individual rights” — for example, against discrimination — are important, we can’t entirely rely on them to guard against all of these risks. For one thing, affected people will often be those with the least economic or political power. So while they may have the “right” not to be discriminated against, it will be cold comfort to them if they have no way of enforcing it.

There is also the danger that they won’t be able to see the whole picture, to know whether an algorithm’s decisions are affecting different sections of the community differently. To enable a broader discussion about bias, public evaluation of AI tools should arguably include results for specific sub-populations, as well as for the whole population.

A new independent body will be essential if New Zealand wants to harness the benefits of algorithmic tools while avoiding or minimising their risks to the public.

Alistair Knott, James Maclaurin and Joy Liddicoat, collaborators on the AI and Law in New Zealand project, have contributed to the writing of this piece.

Pike River re-entry team to venture further into mine as WorkSafe gives green light

From tvnz (video at the link)

WorkSafe has this morning given the official Pike River re-entry team permission to move further up the mine’s drift.

The next step will see fresh air pumped into the Pike River Mine drift this week and the team will move up the remainder of the 2.3km drift, beyond the 170m seal they reached some weeks ago.

Permission was needed from Worksafe to progress any further in the mine for safety reasons, which has been given today.

Sonya Rockhouse, re-entry campaigner and mother of one of the miners who died in the mine said this is what they’ve been working towards for the past nine years.

“At the end of the day, we’ve been saying it is safe for a long time and we’ve just had to wait for this process to go through. It’s really exciting,” said Ms Rockhouse.

“It vindicates what we’ve been saying all along.”

Ms Rockhouse said everyone has been waiting to get on with the job.

“We had no idea that it would end like this but its fantastic, all worth it. Morale is very high.”

On November 19, 2010, 29 men working in the mine died after an explosion at the West Coast site.

In that time, Ms Rockhouse said the families and re-entry campaign has faced a lot of negativity, even recently. She said those people should walk a mile in their shoes.

“A lot of people say it’s been nine years you need to move on, I wish I could move on that’s what we would like to be able to do but when somebody dies under normal circumstances you have a body and you get to grieve over that body and you get to go through the whole grieving process and we’ve got a huge chunk of that missing,” she said.

“”Imagine if it was your son or husband or brother.”

Today’s development comes after families of the Pike River victims travelled into the main drift on October 3.

“They need food, I have food” says a Kebab shop owner in NZ who has been told to stop feeding the homeless

We’re seeing this scenario more and more. Interestingly, I’d thought it was a very recent corporate greed scenario with the complete heartlessness toward the poor. However I am reading a fascinating book by by Shashi Tharoor about what the British did to India (the title of the book pretty much, a must read too. He has a short video clip online which outlines the essentials in a debate at Oxford university if you search on Youtube). India was home to many famines one under Winston Churchill’s watch who deliberately diverted food from reaching the suffering Bengalis. Millions died, around 4-6 by memory. Anyway going further back in their history in the earlier days of Empire rule, during poorer times they would not allow people to feed the hungry either. Corporations are heartless cruel entities that care only for profits & they’ve been around a long time.  The stuff story is at the link below. This dear man since moving to NZ from India feeds the hungry & homeless on a Sunday night when business is quiet because he remembers being hungry & struggling himself…. EWR

Fires are burning differently & more aggressively with aluminum oxide in the mix

INFERNO IN THE MAKING – ALUMINUM OXIDE AND FIRE.
I would like to think a lot of what I say in this video, is wrong but I don’t think that is the case.
Of course there will be the ones who say, “Fire has always wreaked havoc” but when there is something that has been added into the atmosphere, something that does act as an incendiary “dust” that’s where things change.
Can just about say, if you are under the age of say 15, what you see above is your normal sky, but those that have been around much longer, should see that these white trails, that extend and extend, spread out to create what looks to be cirrus cloud, is or has been dispersed from an aircraft.
As I said above, I so wish I was wrong but very curious to the fuel used and as you see, the information is out there, but across out media outlets, truth seems to be like hens teeth.

So, as expected, the Department of Conservation has come out with porkies, again, trying to divert attention from its recent aerial operation and the hundreds of poisoned rats, and other animals that washed up on West Coast beaches. Drowning they say. Ha! Is DOC not aware that rats are great swimmers? They even have the tag name Water Rats. They don’t drown by accident or by Pied Piper fantasy stories, made up by desperate DOC staff.

The pathology report for the weka that was found dead, released this week from Massey (known for its creative alternatives to poisoning incidents – like the sea slugs that poisoned many dogs at Auckland’s Takapuna Beach after the aerial poisoning operation across Rangitoto Island, near Auckland) shows that the endemic bird died with “BOTH LUNGS EXUDING FROTHY PINK FLUID”!!!!

The weka’s Pathology report from Massey is included, below.

The finding is typical of animals that die of 1080 poisoning. But no, in this case, and as expected, the findings were “unknown cause of death”.

So, Massey, couldn’t work out that “FROTHY PINK FLUID” is consistent with 1080 poisoning???

For Heavens sake, when will these govt organisations actually show some independence? Oh, that’s right, they can’t! There is NO independence when it comes to 1080 poisoning incidences in New Zealand.

RELATED: Over 5 years NZ$3 million has been approved by DoC alone to the eight main NZ universities – so how independent is their research?

Although DoC said it’s ‘UNLIKELY’ the deaths of 600+ rats found at a Westport beach were caused by 1080, independent lab testing confirms they “ALMOST CERTAINLY” were (See timeline)

TIMELINE : DoC’s ‘RATGATE’ AT NORTH BEACH, WESTPORT – INDEPENDENT LAB TEST RESULTS TODAY CONFIRM DEATHS “ALMOST CERTAINLY” 1080 POISON

by Carol Sawyer

1 – 3 November, 2019 – The Dept of Conservation aerially drops 104 tonnes of 1080 poison baits into the Maruia River catchment, to kill rats. This catchment feeds into the Buller River and out to sea at Westport.

********************************

8 November — A Westport local spots numerous dead creatures (rats, birds, marine life) on North Beach, Westport, at the mouth of the Buller River, after heavy rain.

********************************

9 November – Locals collect a trailer-load of 680 dead rats, a goat, octopods, skates, sole, starfish, crabs, barracuda, monkfish, crayfish ( all bottom feeders which could have eaten 1080 baits washed to sea) and seabirds from North Beach and ask DoC for assistance.

Buller District Council announces, on behalf of DoC, that the aerial 1080 drop at Springs Junction the previous week (Maruia catchment) “may have contributed to the problem”, and advises caution.

*******************************

11 November – DoC, now moving into damage control, changes its story. On Prime TV News, West Coast Operations Director Mark Davies says ‘Doc thinks it’s unlikely the rats were poisoned by 1080 in a recent drop, then washed out of the hills by heavy rain. “I just can’t imagine that the two are connected”, he said.’

To Newshub, Davies said “… reports of dead fish and birds – along with the rats – are not consistent with the way 1080 is understood to work.”

However ‘One News’ hadn’t quite caught up with the new fairy story and said “”The Department of Conservation (DOC) said they may be victims of a recent 1080 drop 140 kilometres away in the Lewis Pass National Reserve.”

Also on 11 November, more dead rats and dead muttonbirds are discovered on a beach 8 kms north of Westport, seagulls are seen picking dead rats out of the sea at Waimangaroa Beach 17 kms north of Westport, and further reports come in of dead creatures found at Punakaiki and elsewhere..

*******************************

12 November – “DOC’s West Coast regional director of operations Mark Davies said the 1080 theory was however just that – a theory – and highly unlikely.” TVNZ News

*******************************

13 November – DoC’s Buller Operations Manager, Bob Dickson, clutching at straws now, announces a brand new DoC theory – The rats were committing suicide. They had run out of food and were all jumping into the rivers and rafting, dead, down to the beaches.

*******************************

15 November – First independent laboratory test results returned. Laboratory scientists’ professional conclusion is that the deaths of the beach animals tested were almost certainly caused by 1080 poison.

Autopsies suggest two native NZ kākā deaths at the Ōrokonui Ecosanctuary are due to poison from OSPRI bait stations

Tell me again, is DoC really saving our birds? EWR

From Carol Sawyer

This is on the Dunedin Ecosanctuary’s Facebook page today :

“LOCAL RESIDENTS: PLEASE REPORT SIGHTINGS OF SICK KĀKĀ

We are sad to report that two of our Ōrokonui kākā have died over the last week. Initial indications from autopsies suggest that ingestion of an anticoagulant toxin was the cause.

It is possible that the kākā may have accessed bait from stations used for eradicating possums outside the sanctuary. Ōrokonui staff have contacted Ospri, which is managing a large TB control programme in the Dunedin area. This has resulted in a rapid response with contractors removing bait from stations across the entire operation area of the programme as a cautionary measure.

We are asking local residents in the communities surrounding the ecosanctuary to keep an eye out for our kākā and to immediately report any sightings of unwell (or dead) birds. Both of our kākā showed similar symptoms before they died: unusual swaying behavior, looking lethargic and ill. Please contact the DoC Hotline 03 477 0677 from 8:30 to 5pm weekdays, or after hours on 0800 362 468 if you see a kākā behaving in this way. Dunedin’s Wildlife Hospital is on standby to treat any sick birds.

We take this opportunity to remind our wider communities to please not feed kākā as we do not want to encourage them to interact with human-made structures, particularly those that contain food, outside of the safety of the ecosanctuary.”

Why is NZ’s Min of Health ‘too busy’ to meet with a visiting 5G world expert (WHO/IARC) who helped classify 5G as a Class 2B CARCINOGEN? (Sue Grey Lawyer)

Ask yourself why … and if you are able do attend and hear the info from a world expert who is conducting a lecture tour in NZ. What an indictment on our corporation (aka govt) that does not want to know. Details of the tour are listed below. EWR

I wonder why the Minister of Health is too busy to accept an invitation to meet with world 5G expert Professor Dariusz Leszczynski who was on the WHO/IARC advisory panel that classified RFEMR as a Class 2B carcinogen during his public lecture tour of Auckland, Wellington and Nelson New Zealand this month.

Maybe its too hard to pretend our carefully chosen NZ experts know better when you are actually face to face with a world expert.

The water source for Milford Sound drinking water aerial poisoned to 100 metres above the intake

Do exercise the precautionary principle folks, even if your authorities are not. And warn any tourists personally that you know. Generally they follow what the glossy clean and green brochures say, or omit to say would be more to the point. See further info on the precautionary principle below. EWR

MILFORD SOUND – A REPORT

by Carol Sawyer

Note: for recent related articles on Milford Sound go to this link.

Milford Sound was aerially 1080 poisoned on 15 October, 2019. A tourist operator tells me that the helicopters were even pouring 1080 poison on the vertical faces of Sheardown Peak (top photo) These are vertical faces, with the odd patch of bush hanging off them, where nothing will be living.

The water source for all Milford Sound drinking water, the Bowen River, was also aerially poisoned right up to 100 metres above the water intake, and just 200 metres from the Bowen Falls. Dead carcasses will also be in that waterway.

Last time part of this area was poisoned Shane Wilson drove all the way from Otautau, Perrin Brown came from Te Anau, and Margaret Dynes travelled all the way from Winton…. to record the event. Shane filmed tourists filling their water bottles at Monkey Creek while the choppers dropped poison overhead.

The NZ authorities do not practice the precautionary principle with the spreading of 1080 poison. In fact they are now legally allowed to drop it into your waterways without the previously required consents, even though the manufacturer’s warning says take care not to drop it into the waterways. Whilst they continue to claim it is harmless, there is much independent research that says otherwise. (See 1080science for further independent info). In light of that, in my opinion it is safer to follow the precautionary principle, that is, proceed as if there were a possible risk to your health rather than assume there is none. Since 1080 is a known teratogen I believe it is particularly important for pregnant mothers or even those who think they may be or who could be pregnant, to distance themselves from an area where 1080 is being distributed, particularly aerially because of the drift of the dust over long distances.  I believe these are the concerns being raised here, and particularly also with regard to warning tourists of the risks of drinking the water, who may not be able to read the signs (if there indeed are any). Finally, of particular concern is the topography of Milford Sound. When it rains as per the above image, “all of the steep landscape can be considered a streambed”.  EWR.

More revelations on NZ’s corporate LG model that’s controlling the democracy of your local councils … from the stonewalled outgoing Mayor of Horowhenua

After a very unfriendly ‘farewell’ if you could call it that, Horowhenua’s former Mayor, Michael Feyen, speaks out about what is really happening inside your local councils.

RELATED:
THE MAYOR WHO HAS HAD TO RUN HIS OWN MEDIA CAMPAIGN SHARES SOME INSIGHTS INTO THE CURRENT STATE OF LG IN NZ

Stonewalled from the outset, this Mayor, also a former councilor who blew the whistle on among other things pollution, and (now coming out for example, & curiously right after elections the issue of the cracks in the new HDC building that HDC declined to have examined at no cost). Add to that monitored & intercepted emails, a secret $1mill  payout to one of the local Iwi, and exclusion from the pensioner housing sale planning committee.  As many of us are aware democracy is fading into oblivion in NZ & we have the mere illusion only of the former status quo. This is a must listen on the machinations of both LGNZ (& govt?) from an insider. There will be more to come. See our LG Watch pages & search HDC in ‘categories’ for Horowhenua articles. EWR

The Mayor who has had to run his own media campaign shares some insights into the current state of LG in NZ

These videos are from the Mayor of Horowhenua, Michael Feyen. This is a ‘people’s Mayor’ who, like his former deputy Cr Ross Campbell, seems as much at home digging a haangi or drying dishes as he is wearing his mayoral chains. Just into his first term as Mayor however he had most of the councilors go public with a statement saying they supported not him but the CEO. For background to this situation read this article.  His selected Deputy Mayor was unseated just hours into his term for speaking on social media about what looked like insider trading (and that hasn’t gone away, see Ross Campbell’s recent updates). This is all not surprising in light of the fact that these two have blown the whistle on quite a lot of things they saw as ‘not right’ in the course of their work in Council. Council pollution was another issue they highlighted. And so come this campaign the Mayor has had next to no coverage by media. Stone walled & neutered as he puts it himself, he has had a difficult uphill battle with a council that seems more intent on the business of property development than the interests both he & his former deputy would have liked to focus on. A keen supporter of retaining the Horowhenua community housing for instance, Mayor Feyen was removed from the housing committee because he had a conflict of interest! (ie he wanted to retain the housing … he had seen among other things opportunities for employment therein for the young people of the town, the same as his aspirations to pursue trapping of pests in lieu of the use of 1080 poison and of investing in the hemp growing industry). The list goes on, not a list shared largely by his colleagues. The housing sold for a song incidentally, to a property developer who then partnered with an established housing provider with promises to maintain the then status quo, however the contract ends in 2029 or thereabouts & just 18 months in they rents have already been raised.

“Effective growth is a partnership between council, central government and private enterprise….away from the unsettling glare of public commentary…” explains one HDC councilor regarding all of the public excluded meetings by which the assets are being sold. (See this article also). Developers are also exempt from paying development contributions to Council. And nowhere else in the country besides Horowhenua does a District Council have a CE and a Deputy Mayor who are both registered property developers.

Listen further to the Mayor’s latest update, expanding further on LG in NZ:

A highlighted issue with this election has been the difficulty involved in voting (see Veronica Harrod’s info). This was the same last election when many folk did not receive their voting papers and the voting info office was frequently either unmanned or closed. Curious isn’t it?

So amidst the LG so called ‘sustainable’ councils up and down our clean green land (not) we have a raft of property developers busy with their public private partnerships selling up all of the public assets for a song. Then there has been the ongoing escalating debts of Councils. That has been an issue in the Horowhenua as well … it’s ‘good debt’ we’re frequently told. Currently, right on election time, the Horowhenua CE is away on holiday and has been for several weeks. This is the CE who was intercepting the emails of his staff for ‘safety reasons’ it was touted. Who paid a secret payment to a local iwi without the Mayor’s knowledge. Mayor Feyen is himself a staunch supporter of true partnership with Tangata Whenua & honouring the principles of the Treaty. Currently the Council’s real commitment appears to be mainly lipservice.

Please have a listen to his videos anyway & peruse the info on our Local Government Watch Horowhenua page. That has not been updated of late unfortunately, there is much more than is documented there. For more recent & all info see HDC in ‘categories. See also Cr Ross Campbell’s page on FB, the Mayor’s page (Michael Feyen) and Veronica Harrod’s also. Veronica is an investigative journalist who has researched quite extensively the activities of this Council.

The NZ Government has announced a proposed second tranche of reforms to gun control legislation

From postmanproductions.wordpress.com

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says a proposed gun register isn’t about going after law-abiding firearms owners, but rather the people who steal them. The Government announced a proposed second tranche of reform to gun control legislation which includes a register and gun licence renewals every five years.

As logic goes their five reason why it simply flawed and wont work and thus demonstrates is not the goal of said legislation.

A; Our ports are controlled by the gangs (see PSA report 1998 ‘Bluff Ports wide open’). As you might notice several of the drugs shipments coming in now also include hand guns.

Image result for port new zealand guns tauranga cocaine

B As your making the weapon a increasingly prohibited item (as we let outselves get dragged into a dumb and sick US gun culture that associates guns with killing people, as opposed to gathering food and as a conservation pest eradication tool) there street value will sky rocket.

The ONE action you need to take NOW to keep your home 5G-free

From 5g.org.nz

A NZ resource for all things 5G … educate yourself & inform others. 5G is more than you are being told on those glossy ads. EWR

“The ONE action you need to take NOW to keep your home 5G-free

The rollout of 5G has started here in NZ. [1]

Reality is that there will be nowhere to hide once it’s in your town, your suburb, your street.

Shielding your home will cost you thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars. While still leaving you fully exposed once you set a foot out the door.

So is it all doom and gloom?

By no means!

Put your elected representatives on notice NOW to help keep your suburb and home 5G-Free.

To do this, follow the 3 simple steps below.

These steps have been tried and tested in Australia to help people stop 5G in their communities an d over 200,000 people around the world have now used them.

Here’s what you need to do NOW:

Step 1:

Look up your elected representatives on the list of the members of parliament

Step 2:

Copy and paste the below text into an email (or letter sent via certified mail):

Dear _______,

You are my elected representative. This legal notice of liability is designed to be used as evidence in court if needed and intends to enlighten you and to protect you from attracting civil and criminal liability in relation to your actions and/or omissions surrounding the deployment of 5G technology within your constituency. 4G/LTE small cells form an integral part of the 5G deployment. This 5G technology will cause me to be exposed to wireless non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation against my consent and in my home.

Contamination of my home with 5G may cause damage to my home if it becomes a health risk to me and thus render my home uninhabitable. Irradiating me with wireless non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation against my consent would be an application of force against my person and which causes fear of bodily injury and could be classed as a civil trespass and/or a criminal assault.

Any level of exposure of man-made non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation can be diagnosed by my medical practitioner as an adverse health effect pursuant to the WHO’s International Classification of Diseases ICD-10, code W90 thus rendering any safety limit as set by the government safety standards obsolete as to protecting my health. As needed, I may see my doctor for advice on the 5G issue.

If 5G technology is deployed within your constituency, I expect that you as my elected representative will exercise due diligence to certify that all parties deploying 5G technologies have sufficient insurance cover to compensate for damage or harm caused by the emission of wireless non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation. Please note that this could be a problem, since underwriters such as Lloyds of London do not insure for such harm and damage.

I urge you, as my elected official, to act in the public interest by addressing the potential cumulative harms of densification (the crowding of small cells into a limited area to enable 5G) and insisting that public safety regulatory authorities need to prove that such densification of 5G technology is safe and that any deployment of 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and/or the Internet of Things (IoT), is regulated appropriately to ensure that the national security and the safety and privacy of the public and myself is not compromised.

You need to protect the public from other harmful wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi in schools, “smart” meters on dwellings, and the like, and to replace those technologies with safe and efficient wired technologies, such as Ethernet and/or fiber optics, as the end-nodes of internet delivery systems to dwellings, schools and commercial buildings. Forward-thinking cities are already doing this.

I implore you, as my elected official, to act in the public interest by protecting the public and myself from being persecuted by the passing of laws that restrict the Courts, law enforcement agencies, municipal councils and local governments from taking action to protect the public from harm to health and damage, caused by 5G and other wireless technologies.

I am genuinely concerned for your welfare, the general public and mine, and this is a situation of the utmost urgency. I have studied the relevant facts and am thus aware of the danger. As a result I am in fear and I take the risk of harm and damage to me very seriously.

To help bring you up to speed on this extremely important topic, please go to the5Gsummit.com, and listen for free to what 40 highly regarded experts inclusive of scientists, medical practitioners and lawyers from around the world have to say on the 5G subject. Experts who are not censored by the telecommunications industry, nor their captured governments, nor the captured media. Further, to assist with your education, please look at the Bio-initiative Report 2012 (updated 2017) – A Rationale for Biologically-based Public Exposure Standards for Electromagnetic Fields (ELF and RF) bioinitiative.org and Physicians for Safe Technology – 5G Mobile Communications mdsafetech.org.

I implore you as my civic leader, and as my elected representative to get educated on this important topic, and show me by your decisions, actions and omissions that you are taking precautionary steps to address the risk of harm to me and all the people within your constituency.

As an elected official I believe you are at risk of being liable if you do not take appropriate action to attempt to abate, or prevent such harm to me or the public.

Your people are rising up and I implore you to take leadership and be a champion for the health and safety of all of us. If you do, many voters, legislators and I will wholeheartedly support and campaign for you.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Foreign tourists collecting stream water on a 1080 aerial drop day … no warnings given

Remember, this is what Milford local Sacha Stevenson recently wrote to DoC about. No warning signs for tourists. Turns out they won’t be putting any up about the water, just the usual signs with the skull on to warn them since they haven’t resources to put signs up in every tourist’s language. Signs will only indicate pellets, not the risk of water contamination. And the other rationale cited, that it’s ‘extremely unlikely’ the water will be poisoned. Whatever happened to the precautionary principle? Not good enough. EWR

By Carol Sawyer
Video by Shane Wilson

“Oh well”, says the NZ government, “They’re Chinese. They don’t know any different. What do we care?!”

It’s appalling actually. No self-respecting Kiwi (on second thoughts there might be a few) would drink out of those creeks in the middle of a 1080 poison drop – or afterwards. Shane Wilson watched as four busloads of tourists stopped there on “Aerial 1080 Poison Day” and filled up their water bottles. They probably thought the helicopters were taking tourists for a joyride! Shane tried to warn some of them but they didn’t understand him.
