So the NZ authorities have been bombarding our forests & farms with this Class 1A Ecotoxin for well nigh 60 years, and the hospitals still don’t know what to do?!!! Don’t have a plan in place at all? Doesn’t that sound well … not too intelligent?

The following article from e2nz.org highlights this curious anomaly. The interesting thing is, in spite of not knowing, some Doctors who perhaps are painfully aware of the situation venture to recommend testing for 1080 when folk present with mysterious symptoms, and meet with brick walls. Very curious. Remember the Putaruru family? And what Dr Charles Baycroft said? It is all looking very factual indeed. EWR

Ecocide – Toxic #1080 Drop Poisons Mother and Daughter

“What does a New Zealander, or indeed a tourist do when they suspect 1080 poisoning has occurred? Harden up? Hope for the best? Believe that “she’ll be right?” Or perhaps go to the GP who, in the case of the two sisters caught in 1080 dust during their picnic, “didn’t really know how to deal with it”. There is no process, protocol, guidance or help and many people don’t trust the system, which appears to be in place to protect the aerial-1080 programme and not us.

A recent private drop carried out in Hawkes Bay’s Panpac Forestry has resulted in a mother and her three children becoming ill from, once again, 1080 dust. The Panpac drop was on 28th August.

Immediate symptoms were that it was hard to breath, dizziness, tingling lips, and later the next day chest pains and heart palpatations. Another reaction has been a very puffy face, yet the pharmacy said it was not hayfever. They thought it was something very serious. It is a sad indictment that victims of 1080 poison feel unable to approach the authorities as they have seen too many before them be brushed aside, that there is ‘no help’, and that it is all swept under the carpet. The 1080 issue appears to be one of patriotism and one must not criticise. We must stop protesting and ‘get on board with the programme’ according to Ms Barry in The Press.

From an Otago professor who lectures on toxins in the workplace there’s this advice:

For anyone who knows or suspects they have been exposed to 1080 poison you must pass a urine sample as soon as possible into a clean jar and refrigerate it until you can send it to Landcare Research, Cawthorne Research Institute and/or Gribbles for testing.

Yet can we trust the Crown Research laboratories? (ed. are you joking?)

And this from the victim today:

“Been to hospital and waited 2 hrs to be told they couldn’t test me they didn’t know how to test for it so had dye put in my eyes and my daughters eyes looking for scratches to eye but there was none so got sent home so if I have got it it’s now been left unattended cause they haven’t a clue how to treat anyone and they were shocked 1080s been dumped they were suppose to be notified first”.

Hospital absolutely did not know what to do. No information and did not know about urine testing. She and her kids are still getting chestpains.

They were promised by a contact at DoC that there was no drop, it was postponed, and that there would be articles in the paper before any drop. She was in touch week by week with DoC to make sure it was safe to go. They went with a trapping permit and the destination was MacIntosh DoC hut.

There’d been no rain to settle the dust but very strong winds, which meant they dad to move branches. They found it harder and harder to breathe.

Are you all as appalled as I am? This is abysmal support and dangerously cavalier to have no medical back up for a poison that is so widely used. Where is the protection from any fall out from our government’s poisoning policy? It is like being at war. Yet a silent one. Women and children were running around up there – not just the family that has so far come forward. This globally banned poison, with the highest international rating for being a biohazardous chemical, is being dropped without sufficient warning over vast areas of our countryside. And our Minister for Conservation is without compassion, is simply telling us 1080 is like a cup of tea. Safe she says. You can go back to a drop zone after 48 hours.

NO. These people were there 5 days after the drop was supposedly over. The MacIntosh Plateau, which was not supposed to be in the drop zone, is full of dead birds and dead deer and that information has come from a variety of different sources.

Where is this going to end?”

A worker is said to be in a hopeful condition in hospital, after a workplace incident involving chemicals in Christchurch

This all happened two weeks ago and has only just come to the public light. I wonder why?  Keep in mind the recent alarm sounded by Alan Gurden regarding the poison factory in Christchurch. EWR

“The Institute for Environmental Science and Research is carrying out testing at Bromley’s Pest Control Research site, and WorkSafe is investigating.

The staff member was exposed to the chemicals two weeks ago at the site which handles, but doesn’t make, 1080 poison.

Research director at the site Matthew O’Brien says they’re supporting their worker.

He says they’re doing everything they can to support their man and his family, as well as to assist WorkSafe with their work.”  (Read more related links with videos below).

Regarding the toxic landfill sites, more from the Greymouth Star, 10 August 2000:

“Manager of the 1080 pellet producing factory, Bill Simmons, said dumping 1080 was accepted as normal practice and there was no cause for alarm about a 22 tonne dump at Chesterfield, North of Hokitika. In Wanganui, we dumped 58 tonnes in a landfill. We lifted the bait out of the ground for assessing and in six months it had degraded by half and in 12 months it was barely detectable.”

And yet, in the SAME article, (quote)

“Scientific evidence says WATER does DESTROY 1080 and residue lasts no longer than 24 hours and it does say that after 4 inches of rain the baits are safe.”

So which is it? Does the poison ‘disappear’ after 24 hours, or hang around for over a year?

And who did that testing?

You guessed it, the New Zealand Dept of Conservation – the same people advocating its use. The conflicts of interest and the inadequate and conflicting outcomes from testing has been ongoing for decades.

1080 poison does not ‘breakdown quickly into harmless salt’ as per the propaganda. It takes a long time to break down and the process kills micro organisms that are essential for the complex ecosystems of our environment.

There is no antidote to 1080 poison. It is a known hormone disruptor and a single teaspoon of the toxic chemical can kill many adults. The sub lethal impact on many species, including humans, is entirely unknown.

SO WHICH IS IT? DOES THE POISON ‘DISAPPEAR’ AFTER 24 HOURS, OR HANG AROUND FOR OVER A YEAR?

Richard Healey says :

“Neither proposition is true. The science on this is pretty well established. Adding water to 1080 simply makes an aqueous solution. The lethality will not degrade… ever. The same can be said for contact with soils. What does eventually break down 1080 are microorganisms sometimes found in the environment.

Note the “sometimes”. In a set of laboratory experiments one researcher found that when he added 1080 to a mixture of soil and water (eight samples, from different sites around New Zealand) the lethality of the mixture gradually decayed over time. For three of the samples essentially no reduction in toxicity occurred. The breakdown rate was dramatically affected by sample temperature and slowed quickly as the temperature of the sample was reduced below 23 degrees.

1080 is biodegradable, given the presence of the right microorganisms, given the right temperature and given time. Remove any one of those three and it is a very persistent toxin indeed.

That’s precisely why DoC’s use of the phrase “biodegradable 1080“ is so dangerous, so irresponsible and so dishonest. Think of it as telling someone that it’s perfectly safe to jump out of an aeroplane – without first explaining that you should be wearing a parachute at the time.”

Weapons of War On Our Streets: A Guide to the Militarization of America’s Police

The claim often heard from those attempting to pass more gun control legislation is that all they’re trying to do is get the “weapons of war off our streets,” but it’s simply untrue that “weapons of war” are available to the general public. You’d last about three minutes in a conventional war with an AR-15, even with one of the most aggressive builds you can get your hands on (that doesn’t mean it’s impossible for guerilla uprisings to defeat powerful enemies). The truth is that the only people with “weapons of war” on America’s streets are, increasingly, the police.

Thanks primarily to the Pentagon’s 1033 program which allows law enforcement agencies to get their hands on Department of Defense technology and the Bush-era War on Terror, American police have received a startling amount of heavy-duty, military-grade hardware. Between 1998 and 2014, the dollar value of military hardware sent to police departments skyrocketed from $9.4 million to $796.8 million.

And just as when “all you’ve got is a hammer, then everything looks like a nail”, militarized police have become more willing to use their new weapons when carrying out law enforcement tasks. For example, the number of SWAT raids in the United States grew dramatically from about 3,000 in 1980, to a whopping 50,000 SWAT raids in 2014, according to The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander.

To say that the militarization of the police is nothing new is to ignore America’s recent history as well as the long-standing model of a peace officer. As the police have militarized and the Pentagon backs major players in Hollywood, the focus has shifted from one who keeps the peace to one who enforces the law – and that’s an important difference.

What Is the Difference Between a Law Enforcement Officer and a Peace Officer?

The model for police, and the constables and sheriffs before them prior to the late 20th Century, was that of a peace officer. In many states, it’s not even true that police are law enforcement officers – even though it’s a term frequently used by the police and their fans in the “Blue Lives Matter,” “Thin Blue Line,” and “Back the Blue” movements.

It’s a subtle, but important, distinction: Is the role of the police to enforce the law or to keep the peace? Consider the difference between the police force of a typical American city and the fictional Andy Taylor of The Andy Griffith Show. The former is concerned primarily with enforcing the law for its own sake and catching as many “lawbreakers” as possible. The latter, on the other hand, is primarily concerned with keeping the peace. Sometimes that means looking the other way when laws get broken.

This isn’t simply a matter of how pleasant or unpleasant it is to deal with the police. Law enforcement officers might be writing parking tickets in the middle of a burglary epidemic due to their need to enforce all the laws all the time. Conversely, a peace officer is going to ignore a lot of low-level, habitual crime – even when there are clear victims (for example, vandalism or loitering) – because he emphasizes going out and catching violent and dangerous criminals. There’s no impulse to arrest a guy who habitually smokes weed on a street corner if he’s providing the police with valuable information leading to the arrest of violent criminals.

Peace officers might have the need for a sidearm and a shotgun, but they have little or no need for, say, a tank, to say nothing of the variety of nasty DARPA weapons police departments are increasingly wanting and getting.

The Origins of Militarized Police

Weapons of War On Our Streets: A Guide to the Militarization of PoliceBefore we begin talking about the militarized American police, it’s worth mentioning that United States law specifically prohibits the military from enforcing the laws in the U.S. That’s why we don’t have the Army enforcing the law, and also why we don’t have a military-style gendarmerie as is common in Europe. This law, the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, was passed after the removal of federal troops from the Southern states following the end of Reconstruction. With rare exception, the federal government is not allowed to use the Army or the Air Force to enforce the law and the Navy has strict regulations for both the Navy and Marine Corps regarding the use of either for domestic law enforcement.

However, this law has been somewhat undermined due to police forces becoming so much like the military, which began during Prohibition in the 1920s. Organized crime got its first foothold in American life thanks to the lucrative black market in liquor. This was also the golden age of bank robbery with figures like Bonnie and Clyde, Pretty Boy Floyd and John Dillinger becoming folk heroes. The Thompson submachine gun and the Browning Automatic Rifle were increasingly used by organized crime and the “stars” of bank robbery.

The Prohibition Era saw domestic police departments wielding automatic weapons for the first time. There was nothing nefarious about this from the perspective of local police departments. In fact, it was the police departments most regularly in contact with vicious organized crime, such as Chicago and Kansas City, who led the way in arming their officers with automatic weapons and armored vehicles. At least two rounds of ammunition, the .38 Super and the .357 Magnum, were developed with the express purpose of being able to penetrate the early bulletproof vests worn by gangsters in the Prohibition Era.

Overall crime increased by 24 percent during the first two years of Prohibition. This included a nine-percent increase in theft and burglary, a 13-percent increase in homicides, and a 13-percent increase in assault and battery. Overall, police department costs increased by 11.4 percent. However, because the police were busy fighting the scourge of demon alcohol, it was difficult for them to target crimes unrelated to this. In fact, a study of South Carolina counties that enforced Prohibition versus those who didn’t found a whopping 30- to 60-percent increase in homicides in the counties who enforced the law. All of this is according to Charles Hanson Towne in The Rise and Fall of Prohibition: The Human Side of What the Eighteenth Amendment Has Done to the United States.

This era of militarization drew to a close with the end of Prohibition itself. However, the militarization of police would resume again a few decades down the line.

After introducing you to part one yesterday, the investigative series continues.

Schools should be a safe place to be, but for the majority, they will soon become unsafe. Safe Schools has landed in New Zealand, with the blessing of the Ministry of Education.

[…] No other special interest group is granted such privileges.
We don?t devote entire lessons to the visually impaired, create ‘blind pride’ days, or include blind heroes in every class. We don?t demand teachers police blind-phobic language, or that they wear braille name-tags.

Perhaps we should. It would give a far more positive school environment than constantly bringing sex to the forefront of children’s minds.
This is the essence of what the Rainbow movement is about.

The entire culture and worldview is centred around who a person wants to have sex with.

Perhaps we should just let kids be kids.

This is disturbing. I see the agenda popping up in NZ now, the latest being the anti bullying day May 17th wherein every child had to wear something pink. So the real agenda is parading as anti-bullying in some parts of the planet. Here is a US blog also speaking to this issue. Australia’s ‘You’re Teaching Our Children What?’ site is pretty comprehensive on the topic. They also have a Facebook page if you are interested. And no we are not anti gay people, we are pro transparency! Gary Dowsett referred to in the article alludes to ‘inter-generational love’ (aka pedophilia). Note how they re frame everything?

Nobody wants bullying & I’m sure that stamping it out in our schools could be achieved without the requirement of children wearing pink. If pushing gender reassignment is the goal they should be up front and saying so, not cloaking it in other terms. Thereby parents would have a choice to opt their children out. I won’t pontificate further, please just read & decide for yourself. Or perhaps if you haven’t already, get yourself down to your child’s school and ask to see the full ‘safe schools’ curriculum. Schools should be a safe place to be, but for the majority, they will soon become unsafe. Safe Schools has landed in New Zealand, with the blessing of the Ministry of Education.

1. The Ministry of Education wants ‘inclusive school-wide systems’.

2. The Ministry of Education officially sanctions the ‘Safe schools coalition’?

3. Views which are not in favour of homosexual & Trans people are ‘a form of violence’.

The Ministry of Education website is now littered with links and videos directing teachers to Minus-18 and The Safe schools coalition.

A NZ heli-hunter of 47 years has observed that none of the once-prolific pre-1080-drop Kea are left in Hollyford & Clinton Vllys Fiordland

Note: Remember the convoy of Nature Conservancy’s international bankers that flew over Fiordland some time back? Where are they? We were told they were about recovering our Kākāpō and Takahē. EWR

Heli-hunter Dick Deaker has written today:

“I got 14 deer yesterday morning, most in the Clinton Valley. We never saw a Kea!! And as you can see the gut bags ​from the deer we​ shot there 3 weeks ago are untouched! It is very disturbing to see this, as Kea were numerous in these catchments prior to the intensive poison drops in the Hollyford and Clinton catchments. And they are about to do them all again in the next couple of months!!!!”

Dick says none of the gut bags they have left in the last five years in the Clinton Valley have been touched since the poisonings started, and none in the Hollyford either since the first aerial 1080 drop there 20 months ago

Dick has been a helihunter in Fiordland for 47 years.

End note: The Kea, endemic to NZ, (i.e. not found elsewhere), is the world’s only truly Alpine parrot. It is omnivorous and eats a wide range of plant and animal matter, loving to scavenge carcasses. Consequently it is doubly at risk from aerial 1080 poisoning, eating the sweet 1080 poison cereal-baits and also scavenging on the poisoned carcasses, which causes secondary poisoning.

NOTE: If you are pro poisoning of the environment, EnvirowatchRangitikei is not really the forum to espouse your opinions.  Mainstream, where those views are already the status quo would be the place to air those. Nearly 70% of DoC’s studies justifying the use of 1080 poison were conducted in-house. This is a venue reserved for sharing the independent science that you won’t of course find there. Labour MPs receive gifts from Huawei which wants to roll out 5G in NZ

These were formerly termed bribes. Gifts sounds better though doesn’t it? Not so borderline criminal? And who reports them as ‘gifts’? Why NZ mainstream whore media of course, they’re all in each others’ corporate pockets. Well in bed with each other would be more to the point. Takoha, the time worn tactic from way back & still in business. Only small gifts somebody has said, still large or small it has the same magical effect.

It’s been revealed several Labour MPs have accepted gifts from controversial Chinese Communication company Huawei.

MPs have to register interests such as assets, debts and gifts they have received, and the list as at 31 January 2019 was presented to Parliament today.

Police Minister Stuart Nash accepted tickets and hospitality to an All Blacks v France rugby game from Huawei Technologies.

Māori Development, Local Government and Associate Environment Minister Nania Mahuta received Warriors v Canberra Raiders match tickets and hospitality from Huawei New Zealand.

Corrections Minister Kelvin Davis accepted All Blacks test tickets from Huawei.

List MP and Junior Whip Kiri Allan received two All Blacks tickets, food, and beverages in Wellington from Huawei.

Huawei wants to role out the 5G network in New Zealand but there is pressure from international partners not to let them.

The GCSB is still making it’s final decision on the matter.

A Horowhena farmer gets off an $80k fine for illegally draining a lake because he couldn’t afford to pay it!

So the chap gets off because the fine is too big?? Where else can that happen? Note how mainstream whore media reframe the whole thing. ‘Narrowly avoids’ … what a farce this is. We have a law to protect the environment, but only from certain people who can afford the fine! Remember the guy who got a jail sentence for catching fish where he wasn’t supposed to in the Rotorua lakes … to feed his family? No mercy for that man, who had to spend 12 months away from his family, and this Horowhenua man kills thousands of fish, having knowingly broken the law … gets 80 hrs community service because he can’t afford $80,000. Wouldn’t that normally just translate to an equivalent jail sentence?  Justice for the wealthy farmer, none for the poor man feeding his family. Also deemed racist at the time compared with other contemporary crimes.  Please, before you all jump up and down about that, don’t shoot the messenger. Armed police banging on doors on Sunday mornings, to harass people with no due cause, is fascist and totalitarian. Police asking people what their views on Jacinda Ardern are, and on Trump, and whether they have ‘ethnic minority’ friends is out of order.

Jacinda Ardern is behaving more like an apprentice dictator than the PM of a democratic country, (if, of course, she is actually aware this is happening). It might be better to calm down and permit rational discussion – including the acceptance of differing points of view. Is there any rational talk in NZ any more?

People are understandably getting incredibly wound up about a number of issues related to freedom of speech.The events in Christchurch have thrown us all out of gear, as a country.

As Stephen Franks pointed out in an interview with Sean Plunket (MagicTalk Radio, 8 May, 2019) we can not and should not rely on the police to make us feel safe. Safety comes from the checks and balances of our society itself, when people trust each other and have bedrock beliefs in common.
Interfere with that and there will be problems.

Importantly, the police should not have lists of suspects without any explanation to the public of why they are suspects!

There has been a lot of speculation about this in the past six months.

Mandy Ram, a Kiwi living in the USA, rang the factory today ( last night, NZ time ). The owner, Charles Wigley, answered. She asked him if Tull is still supplying NZ with pure 1080. He told her …

“I know they are making baits”. She asked where the chemicals were coming from and he said “I have to go”

… and hung up.

I rang myself just now. I got an answer phone. I realized afterwards that it was 6.00 pm in the evening there, so they will be closed. However the answer phone message was :

“You’ve reached the Tull Chemical Company. We are not able to take your call at this time. If you leave your name, contact number, and a brief message, we’ll be happy to return your call as soon as possible”.

I didn’t bother. Doesn’t sound like a “closed” company to me !

In early August, 2018, No to 1080 Use in NZ received a response to an OIA request to the NZ government. The relevant answer is attached, which says we still source our pure 1080 poison from the USA.

The Google business directory still lists Tull Chemical Co as open. However in mid-August, 2018, I received a screenshot from another friend in the USA which showed it as ” permanently closed”. (I have attached this for your interest).

As well as this, if you go to Tull Chemical Co in the Google business directory and click on photos, one of the photos is of a child in a paddling pool. Someone is playing “silly buggers”.

BUT, Tull Chemical Company, Oxford, Alabama, USA is still open for business it seems. The address is listed as 130 Burton St. The sign on the fence says 327 Burton St.

Burton St is a very short street running off Williams St, and there are no other buildings on it.

I couldn’t get Google Earth to send me screenshots today, but I took photographs myself… looking down Burton St to the factory.

Please note the sign at the start of the street which says “FLOOD AREA” and bear in mind this factory has been producing around 5 tons of pure 1080 per annum. In 2004 and 2015, owner Charles Wigley said he “makes as much as 5 tons of pure poison annually, with most of it being exported to New Zealand.”

In an article by Jay Reeves, 2004, Wigley said :

“….he follows the law and laces his poison with black dye that would show up if the chemical, an organic compound, got into either floodwaters in the neighborhood or – if used by terrorists – a public water reservoir.”

The problem is he doesn’t/didn’t dye the poison scheduled for NZ at all.. it is reportedly white. (Be a bit hard to dye it green if it was already black!)

I have also, for your interest, taken photos to left and right, looking down Williams St from the start of Burton St.

Door-to-door gun confiscations have already begun in New Zealand; home visits by armed law enforcement personnel

As I wrote this, I heard from the Kapiti region that two people have recently been visited by NZ law enforcement personnel in bullet proof vests carrying guns and wanting names of ‘right wing extremists’ they knew.  The following article is from NaturalNews.com which hails as some will know, from the US. News about the event in Christchurch on March 15th is now of course global with much discussion & dissection (& censorship) going on regarding the whys and wherefores.  The result of it all has been a change to the gun laws in this country. Interesting isn’t it that NZ spends $100 million a year on the five eyes spy program to protect its citizens. It doesn’t appear to be working does it? Indeed it’s been environmentalists who’ve been spied on instead. Needless to say workmates were shocked too [sic] see me taken into a room for a chat and these guys were quite nice about it but wanted to know what [guns] my partner and I have.

The poster went on to note that a gun safe in their residence was “installed and floor plated as per the recommendations (So stored legally in an odd stock of luck),” and that they hadn’t used any of their guns because they’re “not allowed” at the moment.

“I didn’t put any paperwork or forms in yet so was a little shocked to see [the police] come out of nowhere. Anyone else get this yet?” the poster noted.

This was late January, a further article says someone is obtaining a caravan for her but they need somewhere to park it. Of course we can no longer park those just anywhere & in a camping facility, ‘sorry, not long term’. And Whanganui, like many other places in the clean & green (not) land of the ‘blessed’ (few) is experiencing a housing crisis … with 43K homeless in NZ as rental properties sell up like hot cakes. But well, it’s a case of ‘let them eat cake’ pretty much thanks to Roger Douglas & his great neo-lib experiment on the NZ public. And further thanks to Key for more latterly getting rid of so many of our state homes for the benefit of property developers. They should both be jailed for treason.

They’ve brought hard times for the majority & for the rest of their own ilk, they’re now profiteering like pigs into muck.

As thousands of New Zealanders enjoy camping holidays this summer, one Whanganui woman is not enjoying the experience.

Helen (not her real name) says she has no alternative but to camp with her pets after losing her rented home late last year.

“I had been renting a cottage on a lifestyle block in Hunterville but the property was sold and the new owners wanted to renovate the dwelling.”

The 64-year-old has rescued many unloved pets during her lifetime and while most have been rehomed, some were living with her and have become her own loved pets.

“I have given away two cats and a couple of goats but I still have three cats, one medium-sized and one small dog and one goat.”

Danny the goat may yet be rehomed but Helen wants to keep him with her if she can because she has had him since he was a “runty little kid”.

“I consider them to be my family and I was upset when a WINZ case worker said I should ask the SPCA to take them.”

Inquiring about risks vs benefits of vaccines in NZ now makes you a “flat earther” or worse a “murderer” – the all out censorship by mainstream media of the vaccine dialogue

Last week amidst a measles outbreak in Christchurch, social media has been in full on discussion about vaccines with an article by TV1 news featuring Nigel Latta, another prominent person weighing in on a borderline push insisting that parents vaccinate their children. To see what is behind this new enlistment of support to bully you into vaccinating, see the video titled Free Speech and Shutting Down the Vaccine Debate by Truthstream Media. Google, Amazon & Facebook are all involved in this.  And meanwhile, Duncan Garner has labeled anybody who refuses to vaccinate a ‘murderer’. Note, nary a mention of all the babies who have died following vaccination.

Let me say at the outset, vaccination in NZ is not compulsory. See the official email from the NZ Health Dept website below.

These prominent persons who are waving their self assumed ‘authority’ over you & your families under your noses, should in my opinion concentrate more on urging parents to obtain all the scientific literature from both sides of the vaccination issue before proceeding with their own informed & well researched decision that will benefit their children. Same as we should on any proposed medical procedure. Instead, Latta has likened such thinking folk to flat earthers.

Recently we posted a video featuring talk back radio where a young mother who is also a psychology graduate & whose six week old baby was vaccine injured, made a plea for full disclosure by the health professionals of the possible risks vs the possible benefits of a vaccine. One hour after vaccination, this young mother says her baby woke up screaming & over two days turned into a floppy rag doll with a high pitched shrill moan … his brain was swelling. Listen to her speak in the following short clip.

So according to Latta’s thinking, anybody who questions this medical procedure (what are the contents of the vaccine? Are there any side effects to consider? and so on) are actually  “as legitimate as those at the Flat Earth Society”. Surely this young woman’s desire to be informed of the said risks vs benefits should not qualify her to be considered by health professionals as a conspiracy theorist?

I’m very disappointed as I really admired Latta’s  work with the Shadowlands series.  Yet on this issue he clearly is not for our parental right of choice. There are now enough testimonies from parents of deceased babies & disabled children who wish they had been informed of the risks and who cannot now turn back the clock. If you doubt that please visit the Vaxxed Youtube channel & hear all the heartbroken parents speaking out. View the before & after videos of their precious little ones, changed forever. Any parent’s worst nightmare. The disturbing thing about that is their numbers are increasing. To not weigh up the risks of injury versus the benefits, in light of the current available information, would in my opinion be very irresponsible.

This is not however how the medical establishment sees this. They want you to get the vaccine, no questions asked. Hitler would be proud.

With respect to the parental right to decline a vaccine, folk have been sharing their experiences recently following the post of an article about children of non consenting parents being pressured by nurses at their schools to be vaccinated regardless of their parents’ wishes. A blatant violation of human rights. Details are in this article:

My daughters were approached by nurses at school “gently” encouraging them to persuade me, they also rang me to question my judgment….I’M THE PARENT not them how dare they question my decisions for my daughters.

I’ve had lengthy conversations with my 11 and a half year old about this..today he said his teacher was telling them all they have to get vaccinated to keep them safe and asking them questions like “you do want to be safe and live don’t you?” , the teacher proceeded to tell the kids they needed to go home this evening and tell their parents that they need to make an appointment with the doctor asap…they have a vaccination program for the year 8s at his school and I told him he has my full permission to refuse and if they pressure him to demand to be able to call me or run away from the area that they are vaccinating.

I received HPV vaccination over 12 years ago now, when my mum sent in a form that said she didn’t consent to me receiving it. I gave it to the nurse who tossed it in the bin, then gave it to me anyways.. when I got home I told my mum & the next day she called a meeting with the school principal, vice principal and all my teachers and went offfff. After that day they didn’t even bother giving me any forms for vaccinations because they didn’t want my mum to come down to the school again.

When my boy was attending Intermediate school they were being targeted for diptheria, tetanus pertussis (triple vaccine) and as a parent I rang to ask where was the info for the parents. Answer was “oh we don’t do this anymore and hardly anyone turns up” So I was invited along to an assembly where they addressed all the kids. My boy had been sent on an errand unbeknown to me and when the session was finished he turned up almost in tears as he had “missed out”. Now the session included a video of propaganda showing an old school photo of a class with circles around a few pupils (can’t remember which way around it was to use as an example who was spreading disease). The Deputy Principal allowed for questions of the 2 DHB nurses present. One South African boy asked what bad reactions could happen and the nurse had to acknowledge “anaphylactic shock”. I raised my hand to ask a question and the DP gave me the most evil look then promptly closed the whole session down and sent everyone back to class. What hope is there if the teachers are propagandised leaves me worried and wondering …..

Parents now also need to be aware that some children are being prescribed anti-depressants without parental consent.

Clearly some medical staff are taking it upon themselves to apply pressure to children which is not acceptable. As to prescribing anti depressants without parental consent, that is definitely crossing the line. Watch your children parents. Listen to them. And be involved & know what is happening at their schools. Make it clear to those concerned what your expectations are regarding any health procedure.

Note also the right of choice has also been removed from the staff of a Christchurch school regarding their own choice to vaccinate. Unvaccinated teachers face a fine of $2,000:

These medical professionals who are against excessive use of poisons in our environment are neither violent, extreme activists nor conspiracy theorists as DoC and the media would have you believe. To confirm this you simply must read the independent information. To begin with at least, here is a list of 19 Doctors … why would they spend their valuable time warning both yourself & the authorities about the perceived  dangers of 1080 in your water supply if there wasn’t any?

Open letter to the Government, Friday, 21st September 2018.

As doctors, we are extremely concerned about the health risk of depositing poisoned bait over 22,500 hectares of the Hunua water catchment area. Specifically, we are concerned about Sodium Fluoroacetate (SMFA / 1080), a known deadly poison which is known to cause sub-lethal effects on reproduction and is classified as a teratogen, having potential to contaminate the Auckland water supply.

There is no effective antidote for 1080 poisoning in humans.

We are extremely concerned that public officials are not adopting a far more precautionary approach to the safety of the Auckland water catchment, especially when the effects of 1080, a highly soluble poison, is not quantifiably able to be tested on how it affects the health of humans.

Studies show that 1080 affects the reproductive organs, the cardiac system, and respiratory system in mammals. There is no safe minimal level known and water testing and sampling after aerial 1080 application cannot prudently protect the public from risk of exposure from this poison.

As doctors, we are responsible for the health of individuals and communities. Therefore, we ask the government to immediately stop the usage of sodium fluoroacetate which has potential to contaminate the New Zealand water supply.

Note the ‘anti’ word? It’s all about repackaging us. They want you to believe we are extremists, terrorists even & they promulgate this by their clever use of terminology. No mention of the more accurate title: ‘environmentalists’. All we want is a clean environment, clean water particularly & an assurance that our health is not being compromised. Not a priority for corporates of course and we are flies in the ointment of ‘progress’ in the form of corporate profiteering interests Predator Free 2050.

If nothing else this all illustrates the surveillance that is going on and the capability of FB & social media generally. We surely all know by now the internet is a handy information gathering tool. We’re in the public arena. The ridiculous thing is, EnvirowatchRangitikei’s information is all public (as are many of the FB pages & sites they’ve trolled for info) nothing secret squirrel about it. Could have accessed it for free. Still, they have the mission of pursuing  those dubious and murky claims of threatened violence. Please do read the following on that one:

This week an article featured in the media about cruelty to a little miniature horse in the South Island that has since died. A loved pet, it was stabbed  more than forty times by an unknown person or persons and the matter is under investigation. This event has certainly raised discussion about the disturbing trend NZers are witnessing here of the growing acceptability of cruelty to animals.

This state of affairs has been especially highlighted (or kicked off?) by NZ’s [some say unrealistic] Predator Free 2050 goal and the official granting of exception to the liberal use of the Class 1A ecotoxin 1080 poison which allows a very cruel death for both target & non target creatures. The Predator Free 2050 goal aims to eradicate all introduced species from NZ soil (although we are not officially being told all) bar of course the lucrative farming animals. Money really matters in the new corporate Kiwiland. Sentient creatures don’t.

The discussion that’s ensued following the cruel attack on & subsequent death of the little horse has centered around the horror of blatant cruelty to innocent animals. Once deemed unthinkable, it has now become acceptable for animals to die a slow torturous death by 1080 poisoning, likened by a veterinarian to two days of slow electrocution.

I remember the bygone era when animal cruelty was a definite no no. It is amazing what can change when dollars get in the way. And to seemingly boost the acceptability of the unthinkable, the proponents of the new paradigm are targeting the very young. Note in an article posted in November 2018 about a biennial critter hunt in rural NZ, a grandmother says her grandchildren…

“…take a little while to get used to killing animals, but once they get into it, they love it”. 

Yes children are naturally reticent about killing because it is not in their nature to do so. Yet now they are being urged to & their efforts celebrated even. This ‘hunt’ does not appear to be a basic ‘trap some pests’ excursion. Featured are photos of dead goats, pigs, possums and a magpie. It is celebratory killing of sentient creatures. And what is with killing magpies? Since when were they pests? Unfortunately this propensity for eliminating pests does not stop with the wild animals. There is now a growing movement to eliminate cats from the environment. Well of course they too are an introduced species. Driven for one by economist Gareth Morgan who recently slammed the SPCA for speaking out about the use of 1080 & the cruel death it inflicts. Morgan it appears may have a financial interest in 1080 through his association with Zero Invasive Predators (ZIP), a partnership between NEXT Foundation, and the Department of Conservation.

Further, children’s school textbooks are even stating that the cruel ecotoxin 1080 is ‘not very dangerous to humans’ totally bypassing any commentary on the cruel death it inflicts or on the difficulty in detecting it as the cause of death in humans. This picture painted of the harmlessness of 1080 is a murky one. If you die of it nobody will know a retired Doctor has told us, further adding that the MOH bullies Doctors into not testing for 1080. And stating that it targets certain animals only is blatant untruth  … DoC’s own documentation confirms that.

So the Dunedin Police Sergeant in the Stuff article is condemning the cruelty to this little horse, calling it deplorable, and all the while the corporations he serves are openly promoting cruelty to animals, condemning anybody who dares to say otherwise and teaching its ‘acceptability’ to our children.  Bob Kerridge who has had a long and distinguished professional career in animal welfare called this propensity towards killing animals weirdly addictive.

So our children are getting mixed messages here. Read the article from the psychology blog. The issues around that for your kids are addressed. The author, PhD Marc Bekoff comments:

“New Zealand’s war on wildlife uses youngsters to reach their shameful goal”. 

Clearly from the article & feedback given, not all of Whangamomona’s residents agree with this killing event:

“…other parents agreed … and were at wit’s end because people in power were telling the kids it was perfectly okay to harm and to kill the animals and to parade around with corpses of the animals they slaughtered.” 

It’s been said by more than one notable person in history that how a society treats its animals is a tell-tale sign about the state that society is in. Unfortunately NZ appears to be on a very slippery slope. Time to stand up & speak out.

Pike River families claim ‘vital’ evidence from mine explosion has been lost

Are we surprised at this? Hardly. A must read for info mainstream will never be telling you is Murder-at-Pike-River-Mine (2nd edition) by Dr Jacob Cohen. The update below is from stuff.co.nz

A group representing some of the families of men who died in the Pike River Mine say critical evidence disappeared during the initial investigation.

The cover of an electrical cabinet was blown to the surface in one of the explosions that rocked the West Coast mine, north of Greymouth, in 2010, killing 29 men.

After it was photographed, Tony Forster, a former mines chief inspector now advising the Pike River families, told TVNZ he understood it was flown by helicopter to the Pike River office. Its current whereabouts are unknown.

“It blows my mind that something as significant as that, in an area that the Royal Commission centred on, has gone missing,” he said.

Sonya Rockhouse, who lost her son Ben in the disaster, said a lot of electrical equipment in the mine was not designed for mine conditions, and was unsafe. It was outrageous the cabinet piece had gone missing, she said.

“I don’t think any New Zealander wants to live in a country where 29 men die like this and then critical evidence disappears.”

Hi all. Here is the picture of the evidence that disappeared. It’s the cover from a switch cabinet that was in the mine and was not intrinsically safe. It was photographed on the 28th of November 2010 after it was blown up the vent shaft and landed on the ground above the mine.

We have been told that it was put on a helicopter contracted by Pike River Coal and taken to the mine office. However nobody can tell us what happened to it after that.

If we find this evidence it could determine what caused the explosion that killed 29 men. There are so many questions and there is so much to uncover. This is why we must go back into Pike River and why there needs to be a full and transparent inquiry.

Efforts are ramping up to re-enter the mine. Police said last week they would not accompany the first re-entry team due to safety concerns, but would reconsider if there was a critical find, such as human remains.

A post on the ‘Stand with Pike’ Facebook page about the missing cabinet piece said finding it could determine the cause of the explosion that killed the miners.

“There are so many questions and there is so much to uncover,” the post said.

Police Assistant Commissioner Tusha Penny said she first became aware of the matter last week, and police were making enquiries.

“Police would like to hear from anyone with information which could assist us on this, or any other issue which may be relevant to the original investigation.”

Anna Osborne, whose husband Milton died at Pike, said she wanted to know why the company responsible for the mine had their hands on evidence like the missing cabinet piece.

“All I can say is it’s a good thing we fought so hard for re-entry and re-investigation, because with each day it’s clear there’s more that New Zealand needs to know.”

Police still planned to complete a full forensic examination once the drift was fully recovered.

They decided in 2013 to leave the criminal investigation open until the scene could be examined. Any new evidence would be used to determine whether charges could be laid.

Do not feed the Kea the sign above advises. Ironic isn’t it? They’ve been fed 1080  unfortunately by the very corporation which purports to protect them. We know 1080 kills every breathing organism (according to Dr Meriel Watts) so what else can we expect? Ten thousand birds in one drop a Landcare scientist has calculated for one of DoC’s drops. This is so not rocket science & yet here we have another sad testimony of the increasingly silent forests.  This one is from Carol Sawyer.

HOLLYFORD VALLEY, FIORDLAND NATIONAL PARK, DEVASTATING AERIAL 1080 POISON DROP, OCTOBER 2017 – 18 MONTHS LATER, STILL DISASTROUS RESULTS – NO RECOVERY !

Yesterday I visited the Hollyford Valley in Fiordland. What a silent place, apart from the cicadas and the tourist traffic. This road is dangerously busy. One rental car passed me on a double yellow line…this is standard.

A recent survey found this narrow winding road has, on average, 150 buses and 1200 cars on it every day. Knob’s Flat is about to have a $30 million lodge put in by the Milford Development Co, so the influx is going to be even greater.

The toilets are so disgusting that I was told yesterday that some bus tour drivers stop and let their passengers toilet in the forest so they don’t have to deal with the assault on their senses. ( Attached is a photo Shane Wilson took of the toilets at The Divide, on the Hollyford Road, about a year ago. I was going to take a photo myself yesterday but the stench the minute I opened the door truly had me reeling backwards, so I didn’t. )

The 1080 drop in the Lower and Upper Hollyford Valleys in Fiordland, 5-6 October, 2017 has been an unmitigated disaster ! The area had never been 1080 poisoned before.

RATS :

For many years, there has been a volunteer trapping programme in place around Gunn’s Camp on the Hollyford Road. Ninety-eight traps are set along approximately 20 kms of the Hollyford Road, back into the bush a bit, from Marian Corner to Humboldt Creek and for a couple of kilometres beyond the end of the road.

These traps are set approximately 200 metres apart, and they are cleared every three weeks, weather permitting. For years, these traps averaged a total of 6 to 12 rats every three weeks, all up.

After the 1080 drop, the next couple of trap clearances yielded very little. This is what one would expect immediately after an aerial 1080 drop.

Five months later, March 2018, the traps were cleared and contained 32 rats. Interestingly, some of the traps had two rats in them, which is apparently unusual.

The following weekend the tally was 24 rats. That equates to 54 rats in a period of 6 weeks, whereas prior to the drop one could have expected, at the most, 12 to 24 rats to be caught in that time.

Rats had NEVER been caught here in these numbers before !

Things have not improved. The latest trap clearance, February, 2019, yielded 19 rats and 7 stoats !!

( These results come from inside the Dept of Conservation itself, but I doubt that they would have seen the light of day if they were not exposed here ! DoC need to understand that not all their employees agree with their poisoning ways.)

BIRDS :

Gunn’s camp in the Hollyford was a Kaka haven. Twenty to forty Kaka were regularly seen there, and as many as fifty were counted on one occasion.

Moreporks ( Ruru ) abounded. One Morepork used to sit behind a generator shed there, and when the generator was turned off every night it then became very vocal. It was a loved ‘character’ of this special place.

All Kaka disappeared after the drop. Eighteen months later up to 3 Kaka have been seen and a Morepork was heard in the distance one night a while ago, according to regulars ( The “generator” Morepork was obviously killed by the poison. ) Fantails are gone.

I guess the DoC poisoners will be back again this year, for their biennial onslaught

An excellent and informative interview. Fiona McQueen (MBChB, MD, FRACP) wrote The Quiet Forest, The Case Against Aerial 1080 in 2017. She graduated from the University of Otago in Medicine in 1980 and has worked as a consultant rheumatologist within the NZ public health system for the last 26 years. She completed an MD in Immunology in 1996 and was made Professor of Rheumatology in 2009. She has had a distinguished international academic career and has been active in research and teaching. She has had a life-long passion for tramping and experiencing the NZ bush, especially the alpine regions of the South Island. This has led to a deep interest in conservation. Birds observed dropping out of the sky in Auckland NZ – mass creature die-offs are now a daily event globally

These events seriously are daily. Further down you will see the data collected by one serious researcher.
The post comes from strangesounds.org, reporting on info originally highlighted by stuff.co.nz. 
These die offs are now very frequent & like the whales, has everybody (in particular those who only read mainstream) guessing. They never of course mention the cell towers or in the case of the whales, the seismic testing. This would scare people. Just as they downplay any possible damage from cell phones to the brain even though brain surgeons have said they can tell which side of your head you use your mobile. Highlighting this risk would put a dent in that huge industry’s profits. Remember, for a corporation, profits always come first & not your health (Watch The Corporation movie). Like the sprayers of glyphosate who frequently don’t wear protective gear as recommended whilst spraying our kids’ school grounds or the parks & reserves, as it ‘might scare the public’ one of them told me.
Great ‘safety’ measures there.
So this matter of the mysterious sudden death of birds has made its way onto a few websites globally. In the context of mass chemical poisoning these days (read Dr Meriel Watts’ The Poisoning of NZ, about  the hundreds of chemicals unleashed upon us via our water, our soil, our food, our air) many of the die offs likely involve some of those. They’re generally reluctant to test however & prove it was some chemical … which we’ve seen particularly with the 1080 poisonings. And then making a connection with an illness is even more difficult. Can’t prove it they will tell you.
Then there are the poisons emitted from geoengineering aircraft, also found in our air, soil & rainwater samples.
On the frequency topic there was a relatively recent event coinciding with 5G testing in the Netherlands where hundreds of birds dropped inexplicably from the sky.

About 40 pigeons and sparrows have mysteriously been found dead, as well as some of the family’s chickens. They were said to be dropping like flies across the Papakura and Takanini region on Friday and Saturday, concerning residents.

After posting about the slew of perished avians on Facebook, a farmer received messages from others who had noticed similar mass bird deaths in other parts of south Auckland. 

On Saturday, a number of people posted to Takanini and Papakura community Facebook pages to say they also had dead birds on their properties.

Read the references cited. If you’re not prepared to examine the evidence then you’re never going to know. Of course it always takes time.

The Taranaki forest is silent … “eerie, no birds” … observation from a local

Apologies for the video in this article being removed. Facebook removed it from circulation so I have uploaded it via Youtube instead. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

A common observation now, particularly from the older generation who know how things used to sound in the bush. You can hear that in Te Urewera here at this link.  Botanist Joseph Banks who came with Cook to NZ described the loudness of the bush in the late 1700s …

‘This morn I was awakd by the singing of the birds ashore from whence we are distant not a quarter of a mile, the numbers of them were certainly very great who seemd to strain their throats with emulation perhaps; their voices were certainly the most melodious wild musick I have ever heard, almost imitating small bells but with the most tuneable silver sound imaginable to which maybe the distance was no small addition. On enquiring of our people I was told that they have had observd them ever since we have been here, and that they begin to sing at about 1 or 2 in the morn and continue till sunrise, after which they are silent all day like our nightingales.’ 

We are now told this has stopped because of the pest population, however, if you listened at the link above you’d know Te Urewera still has this very loud chorus & it has not been poisoned  with 1080.

Taranaki on the other hand has been well bombarded with the poison … 27 years worth.  It seems to not be working then?

Just the other day one of our readers commented below one of our 1080 articles:

“As a retired Hunter & photographer who has always lived in the bush, I can say that I have always known that DoC’s Scientific reports are false, People in the city know nothing about the Great outdoors & the Animals & people who live within the forest. I am 74 years old this year, I have never seen such a decline in birds as there is now.”

I myself love photographing Birds, I have been doing it all my life, I did extensive Travel in South Is. when I was young, I have just returned from a Photography trip in Fiordland, So Sad the 1080 Poison has killed so many of the Birds, I only got 3 Good photos of Birds, compared with 50 odd in the 1970s, What I did see a lot of, was 1080 Poison Signs.

Me and my sister used to take trips out to Kinloch to take our kids for ice creams and just enjoy the scenery. That was until we noticed warning signs for 1080 being dumped in the area and seeing multiple dead birds no way we were going to let our small children play there anymore!

NZ’s Mahia Rocket Lab to launch US military antenna

Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket makes it into orbit in January after lifting off from the Māhia Peninsula.

Space technology company Rocket Lab has confirmed its next launch will carry United States military technology.

Rocket Lab, founded by Kiwi Peter Beck, will launch an experimental antenna for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the US Department of Defense’s experimental technology division.

Beck said the launch would carry an RF Risk Reduction Deployment Demonstration (R3D2) spacecraft in a test that had been approved at the ministerial level in New Zealand.

We recently posted a story about Joel Lund of Wanaka who while attending a local function, chanced upon Lou Sanson, the CE of NZ’s Department of Conservation (DoC). As anyone would, Joel made the most of that random opportunity to ask him some questions. It’s getting pretty difficult to dialogue with any DoC staff these days going by reports I’m hearing where folk with standard questions about impending drops get the short shift & are promptly hung up on. So Joel asked the CE some pertinent questions on the use of aerial 1080, particularly the use of alternatives.  This move on Joel’s part has since been decried in social media however because as it transpires, the CE was actually attending a funeral. He’s been reported as saying it was a reluctant ‘interview’ & considered inappropriate.

As unfortunate as the setting may have been & with all due respects to the grieving, nevertheless indifference to human feelings goes with the territory of  a corporation … an entity that exists for profit only …  owing no allegiance to humans whatsoever…

All sounds pretty familiar doesn’t it when you consider what we’ve been up against with regard to any negotiation over 1080 poison drops on our land, water and food. So, in light of all of the above, is the CE bothered about the two South Island women showered with 1080 pellets whilst out picnicking or their subsequent ongoing health issues? It would seem not. Was he concerned that the NZ lab lost a young hiker’s heart who according to her Doctor, may have been poisoned by 1080? It appears not as there are still no answers forthcoming on that one.  Is he concerned at all about the Putaruru family who may have been poisoned by his corporation’s favorite poison? Or that the hospital did not test them in a timely fashion as recommended by the health professionals attending them? It would seem not. And what of the recent risk of 1080 in Auckland’s water supply? No again. Is he bothered that thousands of target and non-target animals and other wildlife die very long and agonizing deaths following his corporation’s ongoing 1080 drops? Or is he concerned that according to the late Dr Peter Scanlon 1080 may have been implicated in causing a cluster of miscarriages, stillbirths and congenital malformations to the children of pregnant women following aerial drops on the Whanganui River? Or that the data sheet of his corporation’s poison says not to drop it into waterways?

I don’t think so. His first & foremost allegiance is to the corporation he serves and not to the public of NZ. And after all our country itself is a corporation is it not? How can a corporation function as a democracy & thereby be considerate of the wishes of its citizens?

So if this is the modus operandi that corporations operate under, then why the surprise or offense from corporates about the setting of an impromptu interview when you clearly get what you give? Of all people they know the rules of engagement. Methinks it is more about diversion from the real issue at hand for the NZers who would like to decline the option of 1080 in their food chain.

Remember the CE of Nestlé’s notorious statement about water not being a human right? This is the mentality we are dealing with here.

Make no mistake, corporations do not care about you. Profits are their only concern. Remember the recent helicopter entourage of 30 international bankers 14484651_1472593802754892_3596900895775183479_nincluding the head of Goldman Sachs escorted by Lou Sanson over Fiordland? At the bottom of that one was the intriguing Nature Conservancy group ... for-profit corporations partnering with environmental organizations … known today as ‘greenwash’. Dirty corporations like Dow that are as much about conservation as pigs are about flying. ‘Conservation’ for profit. On that topic, consider the revelations of a former Taupo Mayor who exposed the gravy train that 1080 is, who did have a go at eliminating the poison, to no avail unfortunately. Mayors who are generally on as little as one third that of their CEs’ salaries clearly have no more voting power than the councilors who agree with them.

I reiterate, please do watch ‘The Corporation’ movie. If the entire planet stopped buying their stuff they would collapse overnight.

They rely on your patronage to continue their obscene practice of sucking everything on the planet dry … for profit … smiling at you and shaking your hand as they do so.

They are, after all, very good at lying & conning for profit. According to that WHO checklist at any rate.

If you are new to the 1080 poisoning program, a must watch is Poisoning Paradise, the other longer doco also made by the GrafBoys (banned from screening on NZ TV, yet a 4x international award winner). Their website is tv-wild.com. Their doco is a very comprehensive overview with the independent science to illustrate the question marks that remain over the use of this poison. There are links also on our 1080 resources page to most of the groups, pages, sites etc that will provide you with further information to make your own informed decision on this matter.

If you are pro poisoning of the environment, EnvirowatchRangitikei is not the place to espouse your opinions. Mainstream would be the place to air those. This is a venue for sharing the independent science you won’t of course find there.

More recent whale strandings around NZ & the Chathams & what mainstream isn’t telling you

There was another threatened stranding of our sea creatures recently in Northland on 8 December, this time dolphins. Right on the heels of 80-90 stranded whales on the Chathams recently, 51 of those did not survive as of 30 November 2018. There were also two other NZ strandings, one on Stewart Island that saw 145 dead, another in Northland which saw a loss of 5.  This is all so tragic and with Christmas almost upon us the enormity can tend to fly under the radar. There will be more for sure. We posted a while back on this topic with other strandings, joining dots & making links to causes other than the usual mantra the authorities roll out as they have in this article.

DoC said exactly why whales and dolphins stranded was not fully known but factors could include sickness, navigational error, geographical features, a rapidly falling tide, being chased by a predator, or extreme weather. More than one factor might contribute to a stranding.

They never mention the factor that recently had alarmed conservationists in the US up in arms:

Defenders of ocean habitats and marine life are up in arms on Friday as the Trump administration is set to approve new abilities for the fossil fuel industry to conduct widescale and “deafening” underwater seismic in federal waters off the U.S. Atlantic coast.

Early in 2017 NZ saw the biggest whale stranding ever, located at Farewell Spit … 400 whales beached with 70% of those quickly lost.  Here is a mainstream media link to the event:

In that article at the link there is another article referenced …  Why whales strand and how to help them. It cites the usual reasons already mentioned; ‘whale strandings are natural occurrences’.

Media is predictably quick to eliminate man’s interference with the environment as causal regarding any environmental damage. If you’re familiar with this site you will know that this denial is not uncommon. Corporations whose primarily focus is profits all vehemently deny that their practices cause damage. They are also well armed with a bevy of well paid lawyers to ‘legally’ destroy anybody who threatens those profits. People are targeted, assaulted and even lose their lives standing up to corporate profiteering.

That said, it is well to search for and consider the independent information on all events since corporations cannot be trusted to tell you the truth. They tell bold faced lies. If you doubt that watch ‘The Corporation’ doco found on the Corporations page.

The Threat of Underwater Noise Pollution to Marine Life, Particularly Seismic Testing

The following short video from oceancare.org explains concisely the threat of noise to marine life saying “underwater noise pollution is a serious threat…” (the phenomenon media doesn’t mention).

At 1.45 minutes the effect of sonar from military ships is explained and at 2.22 minutes, the effects of seismic exploration for oil and gas on marine life. As many Kiwis will know our oceans are now replete with activity from the latter, especially since our ‘esteemed’ and recently departed leader John Key signed away drilling rights to his corporate friends. The main environmental concern for marine surveys is the potential of seismic sources to disturb animal life, especially cetaceans such as whales, porpoises, and dolphins. Surveys involve towing an array of 15-45 pneumatic air guns below the ocean surface behind the survey vessel and emit sound pulses of a “predominantly low frequency (10–300 Hz), high intensity (215-250 dB).

Seismic surveying can damage the reproductive processes, auditory functions and other damaging effects to highly lucrative marine species (lobster, crab) and it poses potentially fatal effects to marine mammals.

Seismic testing is not fully responsible for whales running ashore or becoming stranded, but there is evidence that it plays a major role. Studies of seismic effects on several whale species such as Gray, Bowhead, Blue, Humpback and Sperm whales indicated substantial effects in behavior, breathing, feeding and diving patterns.

Beachings and Seismic Tests

On November 28, 2004, Reuters reported that during a three day span, 169 whales and dolphins beached themselves in Tasmania, an island off the southern coast of mainland Australia. The cause for these beachings is not known, but Bob Brown, a senator in the Australian parliament, said “sound bombing” or seismic tests of ocean floors to test for oil and gas had been recently carried out near the sites of the Tasmanian beachings.

According to Jim Cummings of the Acoustic Ecology Institute, seismic surveys utilising airguns have been taking place in mineral-rich areas of the world’s oceans since 1968. Among the areas that have experienced the most intense survey activity are the North Sea, the Beaufort Sea (off Alaska’s North Slope), and the Gulf of Mexico; areas around Australia and South America are also current hotspots of activity.

The impulses created by the release of air from arrays of up to 24 airguns create low frequency sound waves powerful enough to penetrate up to 40km below the seafloor. The “source level” of these sound waves is generally over 200dB (and often 230dB or more), roughly comparable to a sound of at least 140-170dB in air.

According to the Australian Conservation Foundation, these 200dB — 230dB shots from the airguns are fired every 10 seconds or so, from 10 metres below the surface, 24 hours a day, for 2 week periods of time, weather permitting.

These types of tests are known to affect whales and dolphins, whose acute hearing and use of sonar is very sensitive.

On December 24, 2004 there was a magnitude 8.1 earthquake more than 800 kilometres southeast of Tasmania near New Zealand, with a subsequent aftershock 6.1 a little later in the morning that same day.

Then on December 26 the magnitude 9.0 earthquake struck leading to the devastating tsunami that killed more than 300,000 people.

On December 27, 20 whales beached themselves 180 kilometres west of Hobart on the southern island state of Tasmania.

Didn’t we just know with a partner like Lockheed Martin (& now ACC as well) that there was more to Mahia’s Rocket Lab than innocent research? Doubtless, Mahia residents will have had nil consultation on this and as to Winston Peters’ ‘disarmament and arms control minister’ label, all I can say to that is, ‘what a crock’. Its latest mission may be inadvertently exposing New Zealand to the militarisation of space, writes Ollie Neas.

Rocket Lab made history on Sunday as its first ever mission for NASA made orbit from the Mahia Peninsula. The mission was the first dedicated launch of miniature satellites, or CubeSats, for NASA by a commercial launch provider.

But this was not the only reason the Educational Launch of Nanosatellites (ELaNa)-19 was historic. It was also the first time a satellite for a US defence agency was launched from New Zealand.

Although described as an “educational” mission, ELaNa-19 included a satellite that will conduct research for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA, the Pentagon agency which develops cutting-edge technology for the US military.

DARPA’s involvement with this satellite, called the SHFT-1, has not been publicly disclosed by Rocket Lab. Nor does it appear to have been disclosed to the minister for economic development, David Parker, who approved the launch.

This launch is set to be followed by another for DARPA in early 2019 as part of a US Department of Defense programme to demonstrate that it can launch satellites rapidly in the increasingly contested space environment.

These developments come after The Spinoff revealed the extent of Rocket Lab’s work for US defence agencies last month, and signal New Zealand’s creeping involvement in US programmes to enhance its military capabilities in space.

A defence and security expert says these launches expose the risk of New Zealand inadvertently militarising space, and could also undermine New Zealand’s national security.

The SHFT-1 is described in Rocket Lab press releases as a NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory satellite. But NASA’s own Orbital Debris Risk Assessment Plan for the mission indicates that the SHFT-1 is in fact a project of the DARPA Strategic Technology Office (STO), though it was designed by NASA.

The STO focuses on “technologies that enable fighting as a network to increase military effectiveness, cost leverage, and adaptability”. DARPA’s mission generally is to “maintain and advance the capabilities and technical superiority of the United States military”.

A DARPA spokesperson told The Spinoff that the SHFT-1 will measure radio frequencies to improve the performance of over-the-horizon radar ( OTHR).

OTHR is a type of radar system that can detect targets over long distances by bouncing radio waves off the ionosphere, which is a layer of the atmosphere. Its military uses include detecting missiles and stealth aircraft.

But there is no mention of DARPA or OTHR in the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s briefing to the economic development minister David Parker, who approved the launch, although one paragraph of the briefing is redacted.

Released under the Official Information Act, this briefing simply describes the SHFT-1 as a NASA JPL satellite that will “study high-frequency signals to support research into galactic background emissions”.

MBIE advised the Parker that it had not identified any national interest concerns from the ELaNa-19 satellites and the New Zealand Intelligence Community identified no risks to national security. Parker’s office declined to confirm to The Spinoff whether he was personally aware that the SHFT-1 is part of a DARPA project, but responded that the minister was briefed on the launch.

“The Minister is satisfied that all the payloads, including the SHFT-1, are to be used to advance science and for research and development purposes and that the mission and purpose of the payloads is not contrary to our national interest,” his office said.

The Outer Space and High-Altitude Activities Act allows the minister to veto a satellite if it is not in the national interest. Although it prohibits the launch of weapons of mass destruction, it does not preclude the use of space for military purposes generally.

MBIE was asked to comment on whether it informed the minister about DARPA’s involvement, but said it would be treating The Spinoff’s questions as an Official Information Act request. Rocket Lab, which provided comment for The Spinoff’s last article, did not reply to a request for comment about the SHFT-1.

Little has been revealed publicly about the broader SHFT programme, which stands for the Space-based High Frequency Testbed. But public records show that US federal government contracts for the programme have been awarded to the defence and weapons contractor Raytheon, the scientific research institute SRI International, and Systems & Technology LLC, a company specialising in “advanced research and development for defense, intelligence and homeland security applications”.

The second DARPA satellite to be launched from New Zealand is called the R3D2 and is part of a joint programme between DARPA and the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Last month The Spinoff revealed that Rocket Lab would be launching this satellite but until now it was not known whether the launch would be from Rocket Lab’s New Zealand launch site on the Mahia Peninsula, its yet-to-be-constructed site in the US, or some other site entirely.

DARPA now confirms that the launch will be from the Mahia Peninsula and likely in February or March 2019. Rocket Lab has not publicised this launch in any way and has declined two invitations from The Spinoff to comment on it.

David Parker’s office says that he has been informed about DARPA’s interest in the launch but has not considered an application for the R3D2 satellite. “Each application for a payload permit is considered on a case-by-case basis against the requirements in the Outer Space and High-altitude Activities Act,” his office said.

DARPA spokesperson Jared Adams says that the R3D2, which stands for RF Risk Reduction Deployment Demonstration, will demonstrate a new type of “membrane reflect-array antenna”.

“The demo seeks to prove a smaller, faster to launch and cheaper capability, providing increased communication coverage typically covered by geo-communications satellites. The R3D2 effort is in partnership with, and sponsored by, the Office of the Secretary of Defense as part of an effort to demonstrate rapid acquisition of small satellite and launch capabilities.”

It is not clear whether other satellites will be included on this launch. But the US Department of Defense will pay Rocket Lab US$6.5 million, which is close to the US$6.95 million for the whole NASA ELaNa-19 mission.

The US Department of Defense has actively pursued rapid launch capabilities in recent years as other nations challenge its dominance in space. Responding to these challenges, the Trump Administration announced plans in August to create a dedicated Space Force as a sixth branch of the US military.

Rocket Lab’s two DARPA launches indicate that New Zealand is to play a role in US space initiatives. Terry Johanson, a lecturer at Massey University’s Centre for Defence and Security Studies, says that this may pose risks to New Zealand’s national security.

“Some of the threats are from our own cooperation with a larger partner who wants to push their own national interest, which may not necessarily align to what our national interests are in maintaining the non-militarisation of space,” he said.

“An opponent of America could see New Zealand as a more vulnerable area in which to target indirectly America’s space programme or defence program. For example, Russia, North Korea or China could potentially undertake operations here to sabotage the American defense programme.”

Johanson also suggests the government may not have full information about what is being launched from New Zealand due to the Technology Safeguards Agreement, the treaty signed to allow for the transfer of US rocket technology to New Zealand.

The agreement requires the US to provide a written statement about spacecraft it proposes to launch from New Zealand, but precludes New Zealand from launching any spacecraft that the US deems contrary to its laws or policies.

Last Thursday Winston Peters, who is the disarmament and arms control minister, announced that New Zealand will chair the Missile Technology Control Regime in 2019.

“New Zealand’s emerging space industry makes it particularly relevant at this time that we contribute to the effective international control of sensitive missile-related technologies,” Peters said.

The links between cancer & pesticides in our environment that the industries continue to deny

In the 1970s, Dr Samuel Epstein wrote ‘The Politics of Cancer’ outlining the environmental health risks of chemicals contributing to cancer. The respective industries continue to minimize or deny those impacts.

Further you could also read our own Dr Meriel Watts’ excellent book called ‘The Poisoning of New Zealand’. She writes in Section One about pesticides and cancer citing the British Medical Assn’s report (p 41):

“While no causal link has been proven between pesticides and forms of cancer … there are serious doubts about the scientific validity of some of the studies which have been undertaken and there is no epidemiological evidence available for many pesticides. In other words we do not know whether or not many pesticides are harmful or not in day to day use.”

Recently, Carol Sawyer posted information on an Otago article that gives details of a study from the University of Otago on the legacy of pesticides found in our environment. They hail a move to organic farming as being preferable. Carol details the NZ health (& other) statistics which are very damning to us as a nation.

NEW ZEALAND’S HEALTH STATISTICS

1) “Close to half the men in New Zealand and Australia are at risk of getting cancer, giving Australasia the highest regional rate in the world, latest estimates from The World Health Organisation (WHO) show.

WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) estimates the risk of New Zealand men developing cancer before the age of 75 years is 46.27 percent. The agency estimates the risk for women in New Zealand at a third.” RNZ , 16 September, 2018

2) We have five times the global average of motor neurone disease, and the highest mortality rate from MND in the world.

3) We have one of the lowest male fertility rates in the world.

4) We have one of the highest rates of asthma in the world.

5) NZ is “a high risk country for multiple sclerosis”. Southland has among the highest rates of multiple sclerosis in New Zealand. Southland is the second largest region in New Zealand and, in all, over half of Southland’s land area is public conservation land, while farms occupy 85% of the remaining land.

I don’t know about you, but I think our massive 1080 poison use, (at present, 90% of world usage, and ongoing for 64 years now, since 1954), and our enormous use of agri-chemicals on farms must have something to do with it.

Otago study shows legacy of pesticides difficult to avoid

Otago research shows banned pesticides (or their toxic degradation products) remain in the sediments of farm streams many years on.

An Otago study shows that the tell-tale legacy in rural South Island areas of pesticides banned many years ago remains, regardless of the type of sheep and beef farming now taking place on the land.

The research, led by Department of Chemistry recent PhD graduate Dr Pourya Shahpoury and just published in the international journal Environmental Pollution, nevertheless shows that average pesticide levels found in sediments of streams running through the 15 South Island farms assessed as part of the study were still within recommended thresholds.

The most frequently detected pesticide (chlorpyrifos) found in the stream beds is one that is approved in New Zealand for current use against pests. However, the study also found chemicals (or their toxic degradation products) present that had been widely used many years ago before they were banned.

The team of Otago Chemistry and Zoology Department researchers compared the presence of chlorinated pesticides at streams running through five sheep and beef farm clusters located near Amberley, Akaroa, Outram, Owaka and Gore.

In each of the five areas, one property was farmed organically, a second was farmed using the integrated pest management (reduced pesticide use) farming method, and a third was farmed conventionally. The farms were carefully selected with the help of a design formulated by Otago’s Agricultural Research Group on Sustainability (ARGOS), which studies farm management strategies in New Zealand.

Sediment samples were taken from the 15 different farmland streams during the spring/early summer, the period when pests and weeds are most active, resulting in more intense application of pesticides compared to winter or autumn.

Dr Shahpoury says chlorinated pesticides, within recommended thresholds, were found throughout the study areas regardless of the farming practices that took place on the farms eight to11 years preceding the study.

“Although the chemical chlorpyrifos was the most frequently detected in stream sediments, in contrast to our expectations, its concentrations were not highest in stream sediments from conventional farms and were found at similar levels across all three different farm types. This may have been due, at least in part, to its high potential to undergo vapour drift and re-distribution,” he says.
