A few weeks ago we shared with readers a lawsuit filed in Connecticut against Nestle Waters North America, Inc. alleging that the water they marketed as Poland ‘Natural Spring Water’ was actually just bottled groundwater…the same water that runs through the taps of many American households.
Now a new investigation from Bloomberg Businessweek reveals how large water bottling companies choose their plant locations based not on the steady supply of pristine, natural drinking water, as their labels and other marketing campaigns would lead you to believe, but based on which economically depressed municipalities offer up the most tax breaks and have the most lax water laws.
As an example, even in the drought stricken state of California, Bloomberg notes that Nestle was able to strike a sweetheart 20-year supply agreement with the U.S. Forest Service to pay roughly $0.000001 for the water in each bottle that consumers blindly drop a couple bucks to purchase.
But it illuminates how Nestlé has come to dominate a controversial industry, spring by spring, often going into economically depressed municipalities with the promise of jobs and new infrastructure in exchange for tax breaks and access to a resource that’s scarce for millions. Where Nestlé encounters grass-roots resistance against its industrial-strength guzzling, it deploys lawyers; where it’s welcome, it can push the limits of that hospitality, sometimes with the acquiescence of state and local governments that are too cash-strapped or inept to say no. There are the usual costs of doing business, including transportation, infrastructure, and salaries. But Nestlé pays little for the product it bottles—sometimes a municipal rate and other times just a nominal extraction fee. In Michigan, it’s $200.

A dying man was discharged to a bus stop wearing pyjamas because Christchurch Hospital staff felt he was a “nuisance” and “faking” his illness.
Neil David Jones, 47, then lay on the footpath for six hours while members of the public tried to get doctors to help him. He was eventually trespassed from the hospital and taken to a shelter, where he vomited blood.
An ambulance took him back to hospital, where he died two days later.
The coroner has blasted Jones’ care as an “appalling” failure, while his angry family say he was treated “worse than an animal”.
“You wouldn’t treat a dog like that would you,” his mother, Joan Jones, said.
Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) chief executive David Meates, who has apologised personally to Jones’ family, admitted Coroner Michael Robb’s findings made for “sobering reading”.

Good news with dementia related illness on the rise, with the age of sufferers getting much lower I notice…
From (NaturalHealth365) New research is indicating that eating more oranges, grapefruits and other citrus fruits could help to offset the effects of age-related cognitive impairment and dementia. The research was conducted by scientists at Tohuku University in Japan.
Keep in mind (no pun intended), that these benefits of eating citrus fruits were found to be substantial. In fact, there was as much as a 23 percent average risk reduction for getting Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Not bad, when you consider the alternative of eating unhealthy foods, less brain function and the final years of life on all sorts of ineffective pharmaceutical drugs for dementia.
Daily consumption of citrus fruits minimize your risk of dementia
The study looked at over 13,000 older and elderly adults and tracked their diet and brain health for as long as seven years. The subjects were assessed based upon their rate of consumption of citrus fruits during their adult years and whether or not they developed dementia or related types of cognitive impairment.
The researchers found a direct correlation between eating citrus fruits frequently and preserving memory and brain health. Those who ate oranges, grapefruits, limes or lemons daily were found to be 23 percent less likely to develop dementia than those consuming citrus fruits just once a week or less frequently. Those who ate citrus fruits less than weekly were at far higher risk for a reduction in cognitive functioning as they aged.
Fact: Up to 50 percent of adults over age 85 are afflicted with dementia
Dementia currently affects around 1 in 8 Americans over the age of 65. After the age of 85, this rate increases by up to 50 percent. Yet, some research indicates that dementia rates have been falling in the U.S. and other Western countries since the year 2000. (although, personally, I have my doubts)
Metiria Turei challenged the National Government’s woeful funding of the Department of Conservation and claimed that since 2008 there had been a cut in real terms of $422 million dollars. This concern was expressed in the context of Environment Commissioner Jan Wright’s recent report that stated that 80% of New Zealand’s native bird species were in bad shape and 35% were in serious trouble (close to extinction). Some populations are so small that grandparents are forced to mate with grandchildren and inbreeding within many populations is a major concern.

“I guess because the member has never been anywhere near Government she doesn’t understand very much about the budget process. The increase in spending in DoC is at $107 million dollars this year, it has been a 20% increase since 2008. The member’s wilful misrepresentation of the figures is pretty pathetic, even by that member’s standards.”
While it must be acknowledged that the Government is embarking on a limited pest eradication programme, this should be regarded in the context of cuts and severe underfunding over previous years. It is the Minister of Conservation who is misrepresenting the facts as Kevin Hague found out in 2016 through Parliamentary Library research.

2009, DoC had to cut its budget by $54 million, or $13.5 million over four years. This meant almost 200,000 hectares of planned pest eradication did not go ahead.
2013, there were 140 more job losses (330 since 2009, around 15% of the workforce).
2016, an associate professor in the school of accounting and commercial law at Victoria University noted that the Vote Conservation for the 16/17 year was $41.8 million less than the previous year.
2017, $21 million over 4 years for pest eradication and $76 million to spend on tourist infrastructure.

As the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly gets underway, Secretary-General António Guterres today stressed the role of the UN to help reshape “unproductive and unrewarding” finance and redirect investment to creating a better world for all.
“The choices we make on finance will be critical,” Mr. Guterres told a special event held at the UN Headquarters in New York on financing for global development goals.
Mr. Guterres noted that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – adopted by UN Member States in September 2015 – are a blueprint for building an inclusive, sustainable fair globalization.
“We can choose to bemoan the lack of financing for the 2030 Agenda in a world awash with so much unproductive and unrewarding finance. A Swiss start-up is bottling fresh air from Switzerland to sell to residents of heavily polluted cities like those in China and India.
According to the company, the air is collected from various locations around the Swiss Alps and compressed into an aerosol can. It comes with an attached face mask to assist with breathing.
A seven-liter can of air cost 19.95 Swiss francs ($21) and contains enough air for over 120 breaths, which is around ten minutes of use.
“This product is for a population who live with terrible pollution every day, a pollution that may shorten their lives and cause debilitating health problems. One can of Swiss air is not the answer to their problems, but it is so nice to be able to breathe clean, fresh air even for a little while,” said the company’s CEO Danny Wurr.
Wurr said he expected his new company to become “a major world player in the new breathable air market,” confirming the first batch of orders had been already completed. He added the company is seeking investors to facilitate its rapid growth.

The lack of affordable housing in New Zealand is something that really concerns them, as does the number of people without a place to call home.
Discussion turned into Homes for People, a Palmerston North-based response to the growing housing need in provincial New Zealand.
It took them five years, but an empty plot of land is about to become six homes.
And those homes, says Darren Birch, will be for people who need them.
“There are people in our community who others look down on for one reason or another and think ‘you should have helped yourself, you should have made better choices’.
“We are pragmatic about that perception and, for us, that is just an obstacle – it doesn’t have to be the end of the story.”
Homes for People allows a house to be bought through shared equity ownership.
In a nutshell:
* Someone who has been struggling to get on the housing ladder purchases the share of the home they can afford.
* The remainder is owned by Homes for People.
* The mortgage is proportionally smaller than is ordinarily needed to purchase the same property at market value.

I recently retracted this post to investigate further following comments both here and elsewhere that HR 3732 did not include Irma & Jose in its original wording but was amended on Sep 11th to include provision (increased from $1 million to $25 million) for victims of Hurricanes Irma & Jose. It was signed by the President on Sept 12th. Apologies if my headline misled anybody. I have reworded the post’s headline.
That said, I do not retract my belief that these hurricanes nevertheless are man made or that these two were indeed therefore pre planned. There is enough evidence of that activity to date. I am simply retracting my headline that was written in misunderstanding of the Congress Bill.

OK I’ve been abused & threatened for mentioning such ‘blasphemy’ before, however, take the time to examine the evidence. The latest Unicef report has us languishing at the bottom of the developed world in relation to the health and welfare our children and youth. This report was based on the data our government collects and concerningly, with regards to child poverty, a ranking wasn’t provided because of a refusal to follow standard practice (an admission of failure?). In many documented areas we are seriously neglecting our young people (ranking numbers are determined by the data provided from a maximum of 41 developed countries):
Child Poverty (41/41?) I consider that we must be by far the worst in the developed world for child poverty when the Government refuses to use the same measures as other countries so that we can be ranked. Our Children’s Commissioner and the Child Poverty Monitor currently state that 14% of our children suffer from material hardship. We have a much higher threshold to determine this and require 7 elements to recognise hardship, while most other countries use only two. The US is ranked 33 out of 37 for child poverty and they have 21% of their children in households living below the poverty threshold. 28% of our children live below the poverty line and 16% live in jobless households, so I would surmise that we could be the worst. We also have the most expensive housing in the world and a homelessness problem that has exploded in recent years. Between 2006 and 2013 homelessness grew by 25% and involved 1% of the population and 53% of our homeless were families with children. Now that shortages have become increasingly pronounced over the four years since then, I would suggest around 2% of the population is now homeless and many more are living in substandard housing. Third world diseases like rheumatic fever are now common place here, and are directly related to housing poverty. New Zealand is clearly too afraid to provide relevant statistics to enable us to be ranked.
Teen Suicide (34/34) We are the worst by a great margin. The median number of teen suicides per 1,000 for developed nations is around 7.5, while 15.5 of our 15-19 year olds take their own lives. This is a shocking indictment on the ability of families to support their teens and our severely under-resourced mental health system. I can imagine few developed countries that would lock struggling youth in adult prisons because of a shortage of youth facilities. Those specialised youth facilities that do exist are run like prisons for hardened criminals. Youth prisoners can be locked in their cells for 19 hours a day, which is classified as torture, is emotionally damaging and unlikely to support rehabilitation.
As we all are finding out, District Councils NZ wide, in keeping with the current corporates feeding at the property developers trough, are selling off the pensioner flats for later profits, and likewise landbanking our state homes. They are by increments dismantling the welfare state. This appears to include stripping the lower income folk of a roof over their heads. This woman, a victim sadly of reduncancies following the 2008 crash (thanks to the corrupt banking system) … has no job and cannot rent at the prices charged in the area her family lives. I know of similar in NZ. A friend of similar age to this woman, in another district is working part time to pay her $350 pwk converted garage!! This is growing into a crime of obscene proportions with folk living in cars or at the behest and debt to WINZ, in motels. Where are their brains (the Govt/corporation I’m talking about). Where is it logical to indebt people to the tune of $85K I read for one woman, when they could have loaned her that amount towards a house, like they used to once in NZ. Before the banking fraternity moved in and took over. We are rapidly descending into third world status friends. The camping ground owner who has shown mercy to this woman here in the article, says they turn away at least one a day in similar circumstances. Tent cities next is it?
An elderly woman living in the Bay of Plenty says she has no choice but to live in a caravan at a campground, because the pension is not enough to live on.
Lynette Haines, 69, is single and doesn’t own a home – she receives $390 a week through superannuation.
The cheapest liveable rentals available in Tauranga cost around $300 a week, which Ms Haines said would leave her just $90 for essentials, healthcare, and food.
She instead lives in a 3.3 metre caravan – just long enough for an average man to lie down arms stretched overhead – at a campground for $154 a week.

(Natural News) A CDC-funded medical study being published by the medical journal Vaccine has confirmed a shocking link between flu shots and spontaneous abortions in pregnant women. The study was rejected by two previous medical journals before Vaccine agreed to publish it, further underscoring the tendency for medical journals to censor any science that doesn’t agree with their pro-vaccine narratives.
“A study published today in Vaccine suggests a strong association between receiving repeated doses of the seasonal influenza vaccine and miscarriage,” writes CIDRAP, the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy.
“A puzzling study of U.S. pregnancies found that women who had miscarriages between 2010 and 2012 were more likely to have had back-to-back annual flu shots that included protection against swine flu,” reports Medical Xpress, a pro-vaccine news site that promotes vaccine industry interests. Notice that the opening paragraph of their study assumed the study couldn’t possibly be true. It’s “puzzling” that mercury in flu shots could cause spontaneous abortions, you see, because these people have no understanding of biochemistry and the laws of cause and effect.
“That study was conducted after the CDC made the recommendation 2004 that all pregnant woman in all trimesters get the seasonal flu shot,” explains CIDRAP. That’s because the CDC is primarily a vaccine propaganda front group that buries whatever science it doesn’t like while promoting the interests of vaccine manufacturers.
400% increase in miscarriages among pregnant women who receive vaccines
The study found a more than 400% increase in spontaneous abortions / miscarriages among pregnant women who received flu shots vaccines in back-to-back years. As ABC News reports:
The study’s authors, two of whom are CDC researchers, saw a big difference when they looked at women who had miscarried within 28 days of getting a shot that included protection against swine flu, but it was only when the women also had had a flu shot the previous season. They found 17 of 485 miscarriages they studied involved women whose vaccinations followed that pattern. Just four of a comparable 485 healthy pregnancies involved women who were vaccinated that way.

Veteran weather modification expert Ben Livingston is a former Navy Physicist who briefed President Lyndon B. Johnson on the effectiveness of weather control back in the 1960’s during the Vietnam era, when he was involved in cloud seeding programs that worked to slow down the advance of Vietnamese and Korean troops. Livingston asserts that asserts that hurricane control was a national priority of the government more than 40 years ago and that the technology was fully operational to control the weather at the time. Many people are good at what they do, and they earn a very lucrative salary doing it ….
The more they have, the quicker (& higher) they rise up the ladder of success; and good on them – in many cases they deserve it.
BUT – this is where it becomes grossly unfair.
Whether skippering Team N.Z. in a boat race, or earning a gold medal (or two at the Olympics) it’s the PEOPLE OF N.Z. who pay to fund these people on the road to their success.
A 17 year old golfer applied for quarter of a million bucks to pay for her coach’s fees…. she went on to win SEVEN FIGURES in prize money/bonus’s – I never heard her say “Oh, by the way, here’s that money I asked the people of N.Z. for, to start my life-style kick-start off – just thought I’d pay it back now that I’m doing O.K.”.
I believe we (the people of N.Z.) are going to PAY for the BIG BOYS to out-sail their boats against each other; to defend the America’s Cup.

You see, while the “Johnny Tucker-box” (on the street) pays (approx) a third of his income in TAXES, these RICH PEOPLE pay BUGGER ALL!
More often than not, they even get a REBATE if their Accountant is any good!
I believe J.Key paid 2.8% taxes on what he declared – that DOESN’T take into account “investments” hidden away in BLIND TRUSTS!

They (Knighthoods) were once RESERVED for the most EXTRAORDINARY of N.Z. people – (1st to climb the highest mountain in the world etc.) now they are given to Coaches (who were on MASSIVE Salaries anyway) or Sports people, friends of friends of Politicians …. almost ANYONE can get one – just as long as you move in the right circles.
They need to cease IMMEDIATELY. They are costing this country MORE DEBT than what they’re worth!
So, who’s going to ask the Leaders why they persist in keeping them?!
