1080 dropped again into the streams that flow into Auckland’s water supply OIA request reveals (the GrafBoys)

This happened also in 2015 as pointed out in the GrafBoys’ video. See also how the authorities testing get around the technicalities. The maps showing the drop area that included the waterways was obtained via the OIA. Watch the video at this link.

Far North 1080 aerial drop called off following outrage from iwi over no consultation by DoC

“The meetings were more like “information sessions” … “At no time did they ever stand up to the iwi authority and say ‘do you agree to us dropping 1080 out of a helicopter onto this land. At no time.”

These are familiar words around NZ these days & a characteristic of Agenda 2030 (formerly Agenda 21). The method used in these meetings that as the person says are more like information sessions, are run using a special technique called the Delphi technique. The merely give the public the illusion of having been consulted. District Councils are using it also when they consult the public on their plans. They’re getting very gung ho in my opinion. Provide these scams of consultation then fire ahead and do what they planned to do all along. We’re seeing this time after time and opposing them is very difficult. Regarding iwi consultation/partnership, in the Horowhenua recently the local Council was seen via a leaked report, to have paid a local iwi a large sum of money to halt their objection to the council’s plan for partly treated sewage disposal on wahi tapu. A Crown tactic from time immemorial, find a complicit individual or group & by pass all the rest.

Here in the case of 1080 drops it appears not all iwi had been consulted. This matter was highlighted in June this year.

The article is from stuff.co.nz

The Department of Conservation has postponed a controversial 1080 aerial drop in the Far North following outrage from iwi who say they weren’t consulted.

A small group of Whangaroa residents obtained information from DOC under the Official Information Act after hearing about its plan for an aerial drop on the 2400 hectare Whangaroa forest for winter-spring of this year to reduce pest numbers.

Spokesperson Asha Anderson said when she shared the document with the community some were shocked to see their names listed as being ‘fully supportive’ of the plan.

“In fact, the opposite was true and some had actually spoken out against 1080 at DOC’s hui,” Anderson said. “This is a serious breach of trust, and included misrepresentation of a local trust and Treaty partner.”

The ranks of the anti 1080 movement have expanded to over 150K at current count

This was a week or so ago so the numbers are no doubt higher again now. You could go check the pages…

ANNOUNCEMENT !! ANTI-1080 FACEBOOK GROUPS JUST PASSED 150,000 MEMBERS/FOLLOWERS TODAY ! AND THIS IS A CONSERVATIVE COUNT!

From Carol Sawyer

Operation Ban 1080 – 65,466
NO to 1080 Use in NZ – 30,221
1080 Eyewitness – 21,187
Ban 1080 Party – 12,716
Hikoi of a Poisoned Nation – 7,075
New Zealand’s Not Clean Green – 6,667
Clyde Graf – 5,000
Stop 1080 NOW – 3,048
Ban 1080 South Island – 3,195

TOTAL = 154,575

I have only listed groups of 1,000 or more. There are quite a number of other groups, totalling at least 5,000 more people.

I have listed Clyde Graf, because obviously his FB page is pure anti-1080, and he has reached the allowable limit of Facebook friends for a personal page, or I am sure the figure would be higher.

the great thing about rising numbers is that they get to a point where they can’t be ignored and it doesn’t matter how many unfounded accusations DoC make about loose wheel nuts, or slips of paper with threats to shoot helicopters down ( amazingly they have only ever been able to produce one of those ), or how many perfectly civilised meetings they run away from pretending they feel their safety is threatened ( as in Wanaka recently ). In the end it just doesn’t wash !

A farmer who lost 570 ewes following an accidental 1080 drop on his farm said that 6 months later sheep were still dying

Back in 1994 Dr Meriel Watts wrote in her book The Poisoning of New Zealand*, of constant phone calls to the Soil & Health Assn by  folk asking … “Is 1080 safe & do I have to let them drop it on my property?” The Association’s view at the time she said was ‘no’ and ‘no’. Soil & Health’s submission to the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment’s Possum Management review stated that “the current practice of distributing by air large amounts of 1080-laced carrot and pollard baits over large areas has lead to unacceptable risks to the environment, human health, dogs, farm stock, birds and other members of the ecosystem.” (p 186, 187).

That submission cited various incidents experienced by farmers.

“In one case a South Island farm lost 570 ewes when 1080 was dropped in his pastures as a result of the helicopter swinging too wide when dropping over bush patches. His sheep were still dying up to six months later; there were also a large number of abortions.” (Dr M Watts, p 187)

“In another case … a central North Island farmer came home to find 1080 spread all over her farm and around her house. There was a nice sign stating this fact, but no prior notification and no prior permission given. Fortunately her dogs were locked up.” (Dr M Watts, p 187)

We seldom of course hear of these incidents as they are not normally featured by mainstream media.  It has been highlighted via the GrafBoys’ information that these stats are actually hidden in the paper work. Farmers, when claiming compensation, are required to list that compensation as for purposes other than poisoned stock losses.

Please read the comments below as a farmer has shared about the loss of his dogs to likely 1080 poisoning.

See tv-wild.co.nz also for further info from the GrafBoys. Watch the video on topic at their Youtube channel here.

The government-owned lab, Asure Quality, that tests all the EU bound NZ honey, has no test for 1080

Note: it costs over $400 to test for 1080 the article points out … similarly when I last looked it cost over $500 to test for glyphosate. This of course makes it cost prohibitive for the average person. It is also quite bizarre given the tonnage of 1080 (4,000 pa) that is dropped on our ‘clean green’ (the pellets are green) country.

A TEST FOR 1080 POISON IN HONEY FOUND – BUT IS IT ANY USE ?

By Carol Sawyer

A couple of weeks ago I shared a comment from beekeeper David Brown of Kati Kati, Bay of Plenty. David said :

“Bees have an average foraging range of 3 km and many of us put our hives in or near the bush to collect the lovely bush honey. The bees not only collect the nectar, they also collect sap and resin extracted by the trees and surrounding foliage. They need water as well. ……

The 1080 dust will be collected and taken back to the hive as a food for their young larvae.

1080 that is taken up by the plants is taken back to the hive in the form of nectar and resin that will be converted into honey and propolis

The water has many uses throughout the hive.

Are we putting 1080 into our honey that we feed our kids ?

“Are we putting 1080 into propolis products, which it’s said has many healing and medical uses ?”

I spoke to David Brown yesterday and he pointed out that beeswax products are also an issue.

It takes 7 gms of honey to make 1 gm of wax, he said, so if 1080 is present in the honey, the 1080 poison will be at 7 times greater concentration in the wax. We use beeswax to make lip balms, body lotions and cosmetics, and beeswax candles.

Another beekeeper who has long held concerns about 1080 in honey, Roy Arbon from Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island, concurs with David Brown on this and, as he pointed out to me, beeswax candles are burnt in churches!

Roy Arbon has been trying to find out where he can get honey tested for 1080 residue. It has taken him three months and he says he has contacted every laboratory in the country. There are only five laboratories apparently. Even the government-owned lab, Asure Quality, has no test for 1080. (Interestingly, Roy tells me Asure Quality test all the NZ honey headed for the European Union.)

Eventually the government-owned Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR) put Roy onto another Crown research institute, Landcare Research, and they have a test for 1080 in honey. Roy says they can test for 1080 in honey down to 0.005mcgs per kg. This costs $422 plus GST.

Scientist Sean Weaver, formerly of Victoria University, said in the film “Poisoning Paradise” that 1080 is an endocrine disruptor in parts per TRILLION.

0.005 mcgs per kg is 5 parts per BILLION. Therefore they need to be measuring in parts per trillion to satisfactorily prove the honey is safe for human consumption.
“Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that can interfere with endocrine (or hormone) systems at certain doses. These disruptions can cause cancerous tumors, birth defects, and other developmental disorders. Any system in the body controlled by hormones can be derailed by hormone disruptors.” – Wikipedia

Surely the honey industry, as a whole, needs to look at this question seriously and demand to be notified well in advance of any 1080 drops in their area so they can move their hives. (1) I am sure there are many conscientious beekeepers who do just that, but it appears from a glance at comments on the NZ Beekeepers’ forum that quite a number are not aware of, or concerned about, the danger.

(1) However, Roy Arbon says “most departments dropping 1080 do notify the beekeeper if the beekeeper has his hives registered under the American Foul Brood Pest Management Plan (AFB PMP) and everyone is supposed to”, but, he continues, where, for example, do you move 450 hives?!! Good question.

Don Mac posted this comment in NZ Beekeepers Forum on April 23, 2015 :

“There has been a documented connection between 1080 and poisoning of bees. Back in 1988 ‘jam bait’ containing 1080 for possum control was used around the Te Kuiti area. Unknown to the manufacturer the supplier of the raw material used sugar in a batch that attracted bees who took it back to the hives. Inspection of honey comb showed green cells from the dye used in the jam bait to prevent birds eating it.

“Wallaceville testing found 2.2mg/kg of 1080 in the green honey, but were unable to find the 1080 in the dead bees”. Pictures from John Bassett, retired beekeeper from the Te Kuiti area.

Today no sugar or sweeteners are used in vertebrate toxic baits for rats, possums and mustelids .”

( Link here – https://www.nzbees.net/…/5652-whats-the-connection-between…/ )

Don Mac has been incorrectly informed. I spoke to Bill Simmons, Sales and Marketing Executive, Animal Control Products, Whanganui, a year ago. ( ACP , now trading as Orillion, is the government-owned factory that produces NZ’s 1080 baits and other poison products). He assured me sweeteners are still used in 1080 baits. “How else would we attract possums ?! ” he said. He wouldn’t tell me the exact sugar percentage but said, cryptically, that it was in two figures and it wasn’t a three – which means, I presume, that the baits are between 20% and 30% sugar and will therefore be attractive to bees.

ACP ( trading as Orillion ) safety data sheets state :

(a)0.04% 1080 PELLETS
(b)0.08% 1080 RODENT PELLETS
(c)0.08% 1080 PELLETS
(d)0.10% 1080 FERAL CAT BAIT
(e)0.15% 1080 PELLETS
(f )0.2% 1080 PELLETS

Synonyms: 1080 pellets
Active Ingredient: Sodium fluoroacetate 0.04% -0.2%
Other Ingredients:
(a, b, c, e, f) Cereals, sugars and binders
(d) Fishmeal, fish oil and binder

So you can see they mention sugars.

Predator free 2050 – creating a generation who ‘find killing animals weirdly addictive’

The new move by Predator Free 2050 to eradicate cats. A new insidiously inhumane killer poison on a par with 1080 in terms of cruelty is already being trialed in the Hawke’s Bay.

Thanks to The Truth About 1080 Poison Facebook page for the link to this article from Bob Kerridge. Bob has had a long and distinguished professional career in animal welfare, during which time he has been responsible for many creative and innovative initiatives that have enhanced the status and welfare of animals in the New Zealand community. COMPANION ANIMALS IN AOTEAROA
OPINION – Bob Kerridge, Animal Welfarist.

The average peace-loving New Zealander may not be aware of it but, apparently, we are at war. If you find this difficult to comprehend, and a little frightening, for verification you need go no further than listen to the war-like rhetoric emanating from the people at Predator Free-2050.

This new, but generously funded, movement has a clear mission: To be rid of all predators, (whatever or whoever they may be), by the year 2050, with its website calling us to arms urging us to ‘unite to fight’. The dialogue from command headquarters tells us that the ‘threat of invasion is here’ but that “we have an army of tens of thousands of New Zealanders’ to undertake ‘a military campaign to push the invaders back, just as we did in the last two world wars’.
This disturbing talk exemplifies a dangerous path down which we are being led which could result in an ecological disaster because of this new-found obsession to become predator free. In a recently published paper two eminent ecologists, Professor Wayne Linklater and Dr Jamie Steer, are critical of the methodology being employed: ‘While Predator Free-2050 is well intentioned’, they concluded, ‘New Zealand’s future conservation policies need to be less bombastic, and better informed by the environmental, ecological and social sciences’. In a separate interview Linklater went further when he stated that New Zealanders would regard being ‘cruelty free’ a far greater goal than ‘predator free’, an aspiration with which I totally concur.

Not surprisingly the troops being deployed to free us of all these predators is the Department of Conservation, (DoC), who of course are willing and able to do the job. In my naivety I used to believe that conservation meant preserving our special and unique biodiversity, until I heard the previous Minister, Maggie Barry, proudly proclaiming for all to hear that ‘my guys at Doc are incredibly good at killing things’. Given there are many dedicated individuals employed by DoC who labour long and hard to preserve the lives of many of our endangered species, and more power to them, this was a foolish and heartless statement to make. It is little wonder that a number of previously employed high-ranking scientists are describing the current atmosphere at DoC as ‘toxic’ with a ‘culture of war and a lot of discontent’.

Dr Arian Wallach of the University of Technology, Sydney, and Fellow of the Charles Darwin University, described the essence of conservation succinctly when she stated: ‘The aim of conservation is not to generate an ever increasing (dead) body count, but to guide human behaviours to enable the rest of the earth’s species to flourish’.

The major weapon in DoC’s vast armoury, and akin to the H-bomb, is sodium fluoroacetate, (1080), a cheap and particularly nasty pesticide which is as indiscriminate in whom it targets as it is efficient in killing them. Registered as the most toxic pesticide by the World Health Organisation it was the only chemical weapon reportedly found in Saddam Hussein’s arsenal. 1080 is outlawed in a large number of countries, but to our absolute shame New Zealand has been using it since it was first trialled here in 1954. Despite growing public abhorrence, we are now purchasing 80% of the total supply, making us by far the largest user in the world.

The evils of 1080 are well documented including its permanent effect on our flora and fauna, destroying micro-organisms and insects, (the diet of many birds), the contamination of our waterways, human health risks, the slow and agonising death of untargeted animals, (both large and small), and also, ironically, many of the native birds it’s meant to be protecting. And yet, despite this history I am told that last year 350 million poison baits were dropped on our little country, thus perpetuating what can only be described as a national disgrace.

So just who are these invaders that, as Predator Free-2050 advocates, need this military effort to defeat ‘because it is a very insidious war they have waged’ against us’? The irony is that these so-called invading species have no ability or desire to declare war, or any concept of what is being plotted against them, or why, neither have they the ability to protect themselves or fight back. In fact it’s a bit of a one-sided war, rather more a premeditated annihilation I would suggest.
In reality the selection of predators that need to be killed is at the behest of the greatest predator of them all, humans, either because we just don’t like them, or they are introduced species and not native to our shores, or we have the mistaken belief that if we exterminate them our ecology will be rescued from certain peril. In general the reasons are unscientific and immoral, as are the weapons used against them.

Unbelievably the latest animal to be selected as a targeted predator will astound and horrify most people, but will delight rats, and Gareth Morgan. In an incredulous move the current Minister of Conservation, Eugene Sage, wants to see Kiwi wandering the urban gardens of Wellington, which would not exactly be their choice of where they would wish to reside given the human dangers associated with urban living and their lack of natural bush protection to which they are accustomed. The Minister noted that to achieve this urban dream cats would have to go, parroting the demands of the insidious ‘cats to go’ campaign, requiring ‘having cats inside, and when your cat dies then not replacing it’. So it’s cats or kiwis.

Local and Regional Councils throughout New Zealand, who have never before shown any interest in cats, are now wanting to illegally label them as ‘pest cats’ so they can be destroyed without question, again acceding to Morgan’s dictate that ‘any cat that is free to range should be a dead cat’.

That constitutes another declaration of war, and of course weapons of mass destruction exist, especially for cats. This one comes in the form of the unpronounceable para-aminopropiophenone, or PAPP as it is generally known, currently and unashamedly being trialled by the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council. PAPP is as hideous as 1080 coming in the form of a paste which, once ingested, starts a process of dying which is inhumane and painfully slow, with death averaging an horrendous 3 hours and 51 seconds to occur. During the process signs of toxicosis occur, (head nodding, lethargy, uncontrolled movement and lack of balance), eventually advancing to unresponsiveness and collapse but fully conscious and aware, with final unconsciousness occurring only moments before death.

The persecution of cats, the country’s most popular and adored companion animal, is as unfathomable as it is without foundation. Ecologist Gary J Patonec, (USA), commented: ‘What I find inconsistent in an otherwise scientific debate about biodiversity is how the indictment of cats has been pursued in spite of the evidence’.

I have to question, just what is the motivation that drives people to hate so vehemently that they are quite content in subjecting cats and other sentient beings to such extremes of torture before killing them? But remember we are, apparently, at war and the conservation soldiers are doing it to make the world a better place being totally oblivious to the probable ecological consequences of their extermination practices. The slaughter of one species on the pretext of saving another for the greater good in the name of conservation is reprehensible.
Predator Free-2050 claims to have an ‘army of tens of thousands of New Zealanders’, many of them recruited from children whose schools have received money and complimentary traps if they accede to the terms and conditions of war. Others are equally innocent urban families where the aim is to have ‘a trap in every fifth backyard across New Zealand’ which is creating a generation who, and I am quoting ‘find killing animals weirdly addictive’.

Such a trend is deeply disturbing and I wonder where, in contrast, is the public outrage? Because these trends are often introduced under stealth perhaps people are not aware of where this war is leading us, what weapons of mass destruction are being used, or what the consequences will be. And where are the mechanisms in place that will protect animals from such abuse, or are there none? Are we just going to sit back and watch New Zealanders fall into moral decay?

French ornithologist Jean Dorst conveys some sobering and relevant words of wisdom: ‘Whatever the metaphysical position is adopted and whatever place is given to the human species, man has no right to destroy a species of plant of animal on the pretext that it is useless. We have no right to exterminate what we have not created’.

I have no hesitation in adding my heartfelt support to that sentiment, as my dream for our country has always been that we respect and love all life, and that humans, animals and the environment can coexist in harmony, in addition to a belief that we can, if it is our will, realise that dream. Keep believing.

STOP THE DROP!! BAN 1080!! (music video by Te Kuiti’s Brown Towns)

TULL Chemical in the US that made 1080 has shut down … where will NZ source 1080 from now? (updated post, Tull still operating)

Please not that Tull as it turns out is actually NOT SHUT down as previously thought. Read about that here: https://envirowatchrangitikei.wordpress.com/2019/04/14/the-controversial-tull-chemical-co-in-alabama-us-suppliers-of-pure-1080-to-nz-is-not-closed-as-claimed/

From Carol Sawyer

TULL CHEMICAL CO, OXFORD, ALABAMA, HAS CLOSED ITS DOORS ! SO…. WHERE WILL WE BE SOURCING OUR PURE 1080 FROM NOW?!!

The seedy little factory in Burton St, Oxford, Alabama – from whence New Zealand sourced its pure 1080 poison for so many years, has finally closed its doors!

Yet we are still, according to the NZ government, importing our pure 1080 from the USA. So, where are we getting it from ?

NO to 1080 Use in NZ reported on 16 August :

“Let’s be absolutely clear about the FACT that 1080 poison is NOT a ‘natural’ substance. This OIA dated last week from the New Zealand Government confirms that the SYNTHETIC poison 1080 is manufactured in the USA and imported into NZ. It is now processed into baits at the two factories: Wanganui and Rolleston.” – see attached.

In 2004, factory owner Charles Wigley said :

“… he makes as much as five tons of the poison annually, with most of it being exported to New Zealand. He said his only U.S. customer is the Department of Agriculture, which said it uses less than four tablespoons of Compound 1080 annually in sheep collars. The collars kill coyotes by poisoning them when they bite an animal’s throat.

The poison collars are used in nine states, but the government said they only kill a couple dozen coyotes annually. It was once used in California, but voters there in 1998 approved a ballot resolution banning the use of Compound 1080 and another poison, sodium cyanide.”

https://www.washingtonpost.com/…/f4103ea0-4390-4c34-8929-…/…

In an article in ‘The Anniston Star’ by Zach Tyler, March 11, 2015, Wigley was reported as saying he thought he was the sole producer of 1080 used in pest control and that “New Zealand is, far and away, my largest customer”.

In another news article at that time, Tull Chemicals’ owner Charles Wigley said that NZ imported 90% of his product, Australia 7%, and Israel 3%. I can’t find the article, bother it, but those figures are embedded in my head ! (The factory was in the NZ news in 2015, because of the infant formula threat).

************************************************************************

SO HAS THE NZ GOVERNMENT TOLD THE TRUTH ?

Are we still importing pure 1080 from the USA ?

Have we simply got a massive stockpile here to use up until it is manufactured in NZ or replaced with another nasty poison ?

Is this the reason that the Rolleston factory, Pest Control Research Ltd, has finally been given consent to manufacture 1080 baits?

Will they be allowed to manufacture pure 1080 poison as well in the future?

Or will the government-owned factory “Animal Control Products’, trading as Orillion, start manufacturing pure 1080 poison again, as they did for some unknown reason from 1998 to 2002?

POSTSCRIPT

We have a postscript from a reader at Facebook:

“The West Coast Regional Council has admitted a secret $500,000 investment in a pest control company and new factory which is looking to manufacture 1080 poison at Rolleston, near Christchurch.
The council released a statement this morning after being outed by the Greymouth Star.
Once the factory is operational, the regional council will be involved in 1080 from manufacturing to consenting and even the application of the poison through another council-owned company.
Company Office records show the Rolleston partnership with Pest Control Research NZ Ltd was formed in May 2013. It has only two shareholders — Christchurch man Malcolm Thomas with 51 per cent, and the West Coast Regional Council with 49 per cent. This story came out in The Herald, October 2014.”

In 1992, a NZ farmer who had not consented to a 1080 drop on his farm, lost 70 deer after a helicopter bucket ‘malfunctioned’ it was claimed

In addition this farmer found a large quantity of baits in the waterways!

From Dr Meriel Watts

“In 1992 a NZ farm lost 70 deer when an amount of 1080, claimed by contractors to be 10 kilos but calculated by the farmer to have been 71 kilos, was lost over the farm when the helicopter bucket ‘malfunctioned’. The contractor claimed this to be an accident, but the farmer counter-claimed harassment because he would not consent to a 1080 drop on his farm. The carrot bait was spread over an area 100m wide by 12-1400m long. Carrots are the usual winter feed for the deer. Of the remaining 48 hinds only two bred  the following season (there is evidence from laboratory experiments that 1080 can affect animals’ breeding cycles). The farmer maintains the conditions of the permit to drop the 1080 in the area near the farm were broken in a number of other ways apart from dropping the carrots on the wrong property:

  • the wrong bait was used (it should have been pollard)
  • proper pest destruction notices were not served
  • hunting licences were not cancelled
  • an uncovered bucket was used on the helicopter which resulted in carrots spilling out during flight, prior to the accident over the farm
  • the specified supervisor was not present
  • a large amount of bait was retrieved from waterways despite the requirement to stay away from them. “

As Jonathan Eisen comments in the foreword to Dr Watts’ book, “… our ‘clean green image’ is only that: an image – propped up by the tourist and agribusiness industries, while the sad facts about our cancer epidemic and our outrageously profligate use of pesticides are ignored or suppressed”.

Between 2012 & 2014, Auckland Council tested wild pigs for brodifacoum (rat poison) residues … of the 14 tested, 13 were positive for poison residues (Clyde Graf)

From Clyde Graf

Many people in New Zealand rely on wild pigs to feed the family.

Between 2012 and 2014, Auckland Council tested wild pigs for brodifacoum (rat poison) poison residues. Of the 14 pigs tested, 13 of them were positive for poison residues.

The Department of Conservation aerially spreads brodifacoum bait across offshore islands to eradicate targeted wildlife. The DoC policy for using the poison on the mainland is however, far more strict. (see below)

Oddly, brodifacoum can be brought over the counter at hardware stores all around New Zealand, and some regional councils dish tonnes of the stuff out to local communities to spread around – like on the Coromandel Peninsula, where there are pigs present.

Perhaps a review of the use of this poison is warranted??? And while they’re at it, put a moratorium on 1080 poison as well …

OIA request details below:

brofidacoum testing 1

brofidacoum testing 2

Around 4,000 tonnes of 1080 poison is dropped on NZ p.a., enough to kill 60 million people, & the quantity increases yearly

Best take care in the bush or anywhere near 1080 drops. Your Govt appears reluctant to test for 1080 & threatened prosecution remember of the NZ medical doctor who advised testing before and after 1080 drops. (You really would think the Dept of Health would be praising the good Doc for wanting to look after the health of NZ citizens). You’d also be forgiven for thinking they were hiding something. Check out the Suspected 1080 Poisoning pages at the main menu. Protect yourself by educating yourself because the authorities are telling us that although 1080’s deadly to dogs it’s harmless as a packet of crisps to us. Doesn’t really add up does it? And it appears that not only is the quantity of 1080 being increased, but the strength as well. Two years ago friends told me that in a private conversation with poison contractors, the latter were laughing that the strength had been doubled & activists didn’t even know. When asked why the extra strength their response was, ‘to kill the deer’. Well that is certainly happening. You can take or leave that comment as you wish, but the source is 100% reliable. Read below to see the quantities that are being dropped …

HELICOPTERS DROPPED ENOUGH PURE 1080 POISON FROM THE AIR TO KILL AS MANY AS 60 MILLION PEOPLE IN 2017 – ( 1/100th teaspoon pure 1080 can kill an adult )

In 2015, approx 2 million kgs ( or 2,000 tonnes ) of 1080 poison baits were dropped by the air onto this land of ours. (967,000ha x 2kgs per ha).

In 2016 DoC alone dropped 1080 poison baits over more than 720,000 ha in 2016, but one has to add (unknown) OSPRI /TbFree figures to that, so the area poisoned is probably more like 150,000 ha ( 3,000 tonnes baits ).

As the amount of 1080 poison baits used increases every year, last year it is generally thought that between 4,000 and 5,000 tonnes of 1080 poison baits were dropped from the air.

The percentage of pure 1080 poison in the baits is 0.15%, so If we assume the more “conservative” figure of 4,000 tonnes of 1080 poison dropped from the skies last year, 0.15% of that tonnage contains enough pure 1080 to kill approximately 60 million people, (when ingested at maximum efficiency), and make another 60 million people very sick… just ONE YEAR of poison !
( The LD50 for human beings is 0.7 to 2 mgs per kg bodyweight )

The photo below shows three teaspoons containing one gram of salt, one gram of sugar and one gram of fat.

carol spoons.jpg

Imagine one twentieth of that amount of pure white 1080 poison powder instead of salt or sugar, ( or 1/100th of a 5 gm teaspoon ), and that is how much pure 1080 poison it can take to kill one 50 kg human being….. or to put it another way, two 1080 poison baits ( and less than one bait for a small child ).

We do this every single year, and the amount keeps increasing, not decreasing.

1080 poison bait to be dropped directly into water on Tongariro Crossing (GrafBoys)

Published on Aug 6, 2018

I have been requested to amend (which means remove) the video clip about the Medical Officer of Health permitting 1080 poison bait to be dropped directly into water around Turangi, and the Tongariro Crossing. It was loaded a couple of days ago, but I have been asked to amend it, because the MoH stated he was concerned for the safety of staff, after a name was accidentally left on the poison approval document contained in the video clip. The clip has now been removed, and is RELOADED here, with the amendment. Please share it. The question is, what about the safety of the people that drink the water around Turangi, and the Tongariro Crossing – let alone the rotting carcasses that end up polluting waterways for months after – what about the safety of the public, from the poisons that the Medical Officer of Health has approved to be aerially spread across land and water??? (The choppers have been seen spreading pre-feed bait, today) …

How the NZ Govt’s 1080 pesticide company re branded itself and why

Orillion is the new name for the Govt/corporation owned factory in Whanganui that manufactures 1080, the poison that is distributed liberally over our land in an endeavour to make us pest free. Per annum they drop 4,000 kg, enough to kill 20 million people. This is 22,000 times more than the rest of the world drops in fact it is banned in most countries. No wonder they wanted to re brand it. People are waking up to its toxicity. They’ve been dropping 1080 for 60 years now so it seems to not be working.

TWO SCIENTISTS WHO REVIEWED MORE THAN 100 OF DOC’S SCIENTIFIC PAPERS SAY: “THERE’S NO CREDIBLE SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE SHOWING ANY SPECIES OF NATIVE BIRD BENEFITS FROM 1080 DROPS”

The new target is 2050 by which time we will supposedly be pest free. Supposedly. I suspect by 2050 we’ll be free of a lot more than pests.

WITH A LONG HISTORY OF POISONING KEA, DOC IS SET TO FINISH OFF WHAT REMAINS – DR JO POLLARD

WITH THE ANOMALIES NOTED IN KEA DEATHS, A SERIOUS UPGRADE IN MONITORING IS REQUIRED FOR US TO SEE THAT 1080 IS ACTUALLY DOING WHAT DOC SAYS IT DOES

NZ’S 1080 SUPPLY IS MADE RIGHT HERE IN YOUR OWN BACK YARD – FYI

The old name of this establishment was Animal Control Products. However in 2016 or thereabouts, they enlisted a Massey University owned company in Wellington called Open Lab to re brand it. This does appear to coincide very much with the intensified awareness of the public to the darker side of this poison.

“Animal Control Products NZ develops products to control and eradicate pests. They wanted to reposition their status from being a negatively slanted ‘producer of poisons’ to instead emphasising the great achievements that their products have lead to.

Open Lab was entrusted with re-naming the company and developing a new brand strategy that would be reflected through a revitalised brand story and a modernised design aesthetic.”

You can read about the new slant at the following link:

http://www.openlab.ac.nz/our-work/orillion/

This is in no way a negative slant on Open Lab. They are just working for their dollars. Any design company could have done the task and the point here of course is to highlight the deliberate tactic of prettying up the poisoning program under a plethora of new and colorful rhetoric and images which of course is not new.

“The elected name, Orillion, means ‘the defensive part of a city wall’, and conveys their role as a safeguard of native species, the environment and community. The logo is based on the whauwhaupaku, or fivefinger; a fast-growing plant used to help forests regenerate.”

Rebranding deadly poison with attractive & appealing brochures: Photo – openlab

It is a time worn tactic employed by governments since forever. The Crown is an expert at it. They re wrote our colonial histories in a similar  fashion to make them more palatable for succeeding generations. It is hoped says the website info, that the new branding will increase export sales.

POSTSCRIPT: From a FB member:

Did you know Company Office records show the Rolleston Partnership with Pest Control Research NZ Ltd was formed in May 2013.

It has only two shareholders- Christchurch man Malcolm Thomas with 51 per cent, and the West Coast Regional Council with 49 per cent.

Did you know ………”In New Zealand, the poison is manufactured into pellets by Animal Control Products Ltd (ACP), a Crown-owned company, which manufactures more than 90 per cent of the pesticides formulations containing 1080 used in New Zealand.”……….

For important details on 1080 that are generally left out of the mainstream dialogue I suggest you visit our 1080 pages at the main menu. There is much evidence there and many links to independent research illustrating that this product kills more than the pests we are told are targeted. If you hike, tramp, hunt or fish, you should also visit the page, Suspected 1080 Poisoning Cases.

BANNED IN MOST COUNTRIES & CLASSIFIED BY WHO AS ‘HIGHLY HAZARDOUS’… 1080 IS A BROAD-SPECTRUM POISON THAT KILLS ALL OXYGEN-BREATHING ANIMALS AND ORGANISMS – DR MERIEL WATTS

Also, use ‘categories’ at the left of the page & search 1080. There are just too many references to include in this short article. Share the information with your loved ones. You should not for instance, be in or near a drop zone if pregnant.

Midwives warn of 1080 risk

More to come on that topic. Finally, watch out for your pets near any drop zone. Death by 1080 has been likened by a Veterinarian to two days of electrocution. Not a pretty sight and there is no antidote.

For those who are against the use of aerially dropped 1080 on our land (and waterways) there is a peaceful protest-hikoi making its way from the far North & the far South, to meet at Parliament on September 8th. Watch for its passage through your town/area & support their efforts in whatever way you can. Details can be found here.

For folk near Whanganui there is to be a peaceful protest there as well. Details below from Hikoi of a Poisoned Nation at Facebook.

Although officially there are virtually no possums in the area DoC says it’s going ahead with a South Westland 1080 aerial drop anyway which in turn will create a rat plague

CASCADE, HOPE, GORGE RIVER CATCHMENTS – 1080 DROP TO GO AHEAD DESPITE NO POSSUMS!

By Carol Sawyer

A DoC source told me today that the Hope River area had possum monitoring done and the bite cards showed there are virtually no possums in the area. I have been informed that the people who did the monitoring can’t understand why this drop is going ahead, and that DoC were thinking of cancelling it but that now, however, DoC have said that even though there are no possums there, it is too late to stop the drop, and it has to go ahead.

It’s all a bit confusing because it is an OSPRI drop and OSPRI drop 1080 for possums only, but it is also a DoC drop, as it is on DoC managed land and the map says Battle for the Birds and “rat control”. I guess with this method they’ve got a bob each way !

*******************************************

Of course 1080 poison, as DoC admit themselves, is no good for rat control because after an initial knock back they end up with a rat plague. I have been told by an editor of www.1080science.co.nz that the reason for rat plagues following 1080 drops is that “Nature abhors a vacuum”. After a 1080 drop there is a vacuum, the rats are the fastest breeding creature in the forest, and there is more food available.

“…..increased rat abundance following possum control is a consequence of greater availability of, or reduced competition for, seeds and fruit.”

Here is scientific proof of rat increases after 1080 drops :

“Ship rat demography and diet following possum control in a mixed podocarp–hardwood forest”
https://newzealandecology.org/nzje/2834.pdf

********************************************

IN CONCLUSION, the drop will go ahead without justification. It will kill the non-existent possums and cause a rat plague. Good work again, DoC and OSPRI.

Shocking revelations on 1080 from a former Horizons employee

Carol Sawyer

OLD 1080 STOCK SOLUTION, DDT, CHEMICALS GO OFF IN A SHIP TO FRANCE?!

When it’s not being sprayed round the Palmerston North Landfill, that is. What happens if the ship sinks?!

George Robinson has worked in the pest control industry all his life. When he left the Manawatu/Wanganui (Horizons) Regional Council he had a gagging order put on him, but the time period is now up.

This is the story he told me, and I first posted it in January, 2017 :

They used to use (up to 2008-2009 that he knows of) 20% 1080 stock solution and dilute it to a field solution to put it on the green-dyed carrots, for rabbits. He said they had back packs and had it running down their arms, legs, backs….. They used to find dead birds everywhere, blackbirds especially. They were told it all dissolved in water and broke down.

They were sent to conferences run by NZ Pest Management Officers’ Institute. George says “I believe it was the Food Safety Authority that policed the regulations then”. He remembers one where Charles Eason (now CEO of the Cawthron Institute, but formerly senior manager with Landcare Research and a Professor at Lincoln University) spoke and told them “three pisses and the 1080 is gone from your system”.

They had a big holding tank and the stock solution could be held for up to 7 or 8 years before it was no good, but a man from a waste removal transport company would come along and pump out the holding tank. He would take it down to the Palmerston North landfill and spread it all over the ground, driving round in a circle. George says this guy was a straight-up sort of chap who was amazed that he was given permission to do it.

There was a facility in France where some of the stuff collected went – old farm chemicals such as DDT, etc. It goes on a ship which “must be a very toxic shipload”, George said. (I have been told recently that that facility in France is no longer used… I’m not sure where it goes now – Note 29 July, 2018).

He said that at present, Horizons are using Brodificoum on pastureland amongst stock, for possum control. He said it has killed stock but that the worst thing is that it accumulates in the liver and remains in the sheeps’ livers for 36 months. He said Horizons are using the High Strength version.

He himself has a CSL (Controlled Substance Licence).

He says Horizons must be one of the biggest users of Brodificoum. He rang Affco to see if they tested and they said they did random testing, and the Ministry of Primary Industries also assured him they did random testing. He said to them ” Why don’t you test the stock from the paddocks where you use Brodificoum?” but they didn’t want to know!

He said the Ministry of Health used to police the regulations but now that duty has gone to the Ministry of Primary Industries.

He said Horizons have a whole lot of operations, all doing the same thing – killing rats and possums. He said they will be killing birds as well and that the sheep and other livestock “hoover it up”. He said the bait stations are 1.8 metres off the ground, but the deer and cattle can reach them, and the possums are messy eaters and get it all over the ground, so the sheep can get it too.

George left Horizons because he was arguing with them about their 10 year plan for Brodifacoum pest control, and says he was forced out because he was against it.

He said the Greater Wellington Council is using Brodifacoum too. They used it on Tawaiti Station (a safari hunting operation on the East Coast). It killed a few deer and as they were going to sell some, they thought they had better test them for Brodifacoum. They found so much Brodifacoum in them that they shot around 70 deer and burnt the carcasses!

Despite 4K+ signatures against, a 1080 drop over Luggate, Alice Burn & Luggate Creek is going ahead

By Carol Sawyer

LUGGATE, NR WANAKA, OSPRI AERIAL 1080 POISON DROP GOES AHEAD, 19 JULY, 2018 – INCLUDING INTO THE ALICE BURN AND INTO LUGGATE CREEK

Despite a petition against the Luggate 1080 drop having 4,208 signatures, and a massive effort by some members of the local community to stop this drop, or at the very least have their concerns heard.

Despite the fact that, with no justification, OSPRI walked out of a public meeting, held to discuss the Luggate 1080 drop – a fact backed up in a media report by TBfreeNZ committee member Phil Hunt, who was there at the time.

Despite the fact that they have since destroyed the film they took of that meeting, which would have shown a calm and non-threatening gathering of 30 people, whereas they claimed they walked out over fears for their safety.( They had two security guards – these OSPRI men are mice ).

Despite the fact they have refused consistently to answer Luggate community queries since, ( with OSPRI Operations Extension officer Jennifer Lawn even hanging up the phone on Luggate resident Tracey Morrow, saying she didn’t have time for this conversation).

Despite the fact they have steadfastly refused to do any proper community consultation

Despite all of this and more……the drop goes ahead. These people care nothing for small communities or their concerns

1 ) OSPRI notification of aerial 1080 drop scheduled 19 July, 2018 – Wanaka Sun, 12 July, 2018

2 ) Map of drop zone ( We think ! There have been four maps !)

Go into a 1080-poisoned forest, see for yourself says a NZ bushman of 35 years – non target birds are dying

NOTE: This is a burning issue in NZ currently, a nation advertised as clean and green is anything but. They are poisoning our environment with greater intensity under the guise of saving birds. Folk visiting here should be warned & not drink water from the streams as many tourists do. One tourist here died & her Doctor who arranged to send her heart for testing for 1080 was told to back off & the lab ‘lost’ her heart. From the Gisborne Herald

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

With regard to Grant Vincent’s comments on the benefits of 1080 poison. As a logging contractor and bushman for the past 35 years, I have seen my fair share of 1080 poison drops. Every year parts of the forest estate where I worked were systematically poisoned every three years.

In my experience this creates very low bird numbers, especially predatory birds like the falcon, morepork, weka and hawk. All these birds I have found poisoned after a 1080 poison drop.

1080 poison was first developed as an insecticide, so what effect does this have on the forest ecosystem as a whole? And then there’s the effect on poisoning our waterways which run down to our coastline.

New Zealand’s Department of Conservation, TBfree and many regional councils backed by Forest and Bird support the aerial use of 1080 poison which indiscriminately kills all creatures that breathe oxygen through a slow, painful death that can take some animals days.

Then there is the crusade to have New Zealand pest-free by 2050, which includes deer and pigs. If you hunt wild game to feed your family, as most of my workers do, be concerned as this will affect you!

As I have always said to people who ask me about the effects of 1080 poison — go into a forest which has been poisoned by 1080 and see for yourself. Listen if you can hear any birds, and you will notice the smell of death.

1080 blackmail suspects: Minister Nick Smith told us not to sue

From the NZ Herald

Key Points:

      • * Anti-1080 couple targeted by police sought $165,000 in damages
      • * Former conservation minister Nick Smith offered flowers and a caution about suing police

* The couple felt Smith was trying to dissuade them from the law suit

A couple targeted by detectives hunting the 1080 milk-powder blackmailer claim National MP Nick Smith – while Minister of Conservation – personally attempted to dissuade them from suing the police.

Rolf and Ute Kleine have been paid $10,000 by police to settle a lawsuit over the time they spent as key suspects in the hunt for the blackmailer.

They were caught up in the inquiry after police focused on anti-1080 protesters as the source of the threat to put the poisonous pesticide into milk powder.

DoC spent $100,000 on Thompson & Clark PI ‘protection’

Some of us recall a time when government departments didn’t need ‘protecting’, but then our government and its departments are now corporations. Corporations are ‘needing’ protection from the people who have found them out to be not what we all thought.

From newshub.co.nz

The Department of Conservation (DoC) has admitted spending more than $100,000 of taxpayer money on controversial private investigators Thompson & Clark.

Opponents of the 1080 poison have forced DoC to admit it uses the private investigators to monitor their social media, costing $103,187.

However, DoC has since denied ordering them to spy.

“The Department of Conservation has not contracted Thompson and Clark Limited or any other investigator to undertake surveillance,” it told Newshub.

DOC withholds information after demands from Thompson and Clark

The Department of Conservation (DOC) withheld official information after demands from security firm Thompson and Clark, internal emails show.

Thompson and Clark spied on anti-1080 activists for DOC, sharing intelligence through what it called its “Fusion Centre” – locked, hidden chat channels on messaging app Slack.

The work cost nearly $4000 a month – several government departments are signed up to similar packages – and also included a weekly phone briefing involving senior staff from both organisations.

Blueprint of Monsanto’s “black ops” public relations machine REVEALED: See the names of fake front groups and science hacks who took part

(Natural News) It’s no secret that companies like Monsanto do everything in their power to keep the true toxicity of their products under wraps. Big Food, Big Ag, Big Pharma and the like have all been accused of similar tactics across the board. But the lengths to which Monsanto has gone to keep the world from knowing the truth about glyphosate (the star ingredient in its flagship product, Roundup) is truly disturbing.

After the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Cancer Research (IARC) labeled glyphosate a “probable human carcinogen,” Monsanto engaged in a covert operation to slam the findings from every avenue — and they recruited a number of partners to help them save face.

Recently released documents provided by US Right To Know (USRTK) show that the biotech firm enlisted over a dozen “industry partner” groups in their plan to denounce the IARC findings and keep Roundup in the public’s good graces. An internal document dated February 2015 describes a detailed plan, in which 20 Monsanto employees were given goals to “neutralize impact of decision,” engage in “regulator outreach,” “ensure MON POV ” and “lead voice in ‘who is IARC’ plus 2B outrage.”

Monsanto conspires with “industry partners”

In the five-page document, Monsanto lists four tiers of “industry partners” to be used in their “preparedness and engagement plan” for the IARC’s carcinogen rating for glyphosate. The plan, of course, was put in place nearly a month before the IARC publicly released their finding that glyphosate probably causes cancer — which raises substantial suspicions that the biotech giant knew what IARC was going to find.

Resistance to using 1080 grows in Far North: DoC has misled the public on operations costs, consultation & perceived support

The Department of Conservation’s plan for a 1080 aerial drop in public and private forests in the Far North later this year is meeting growing resistance.

Critics say use of the poison over more than 60 years has had devastating effects on wildlife, killing indiscriminately, inflicting an “extremely cruel and inhumane death” that often takes days. Locals for Responsible Conservation also argue that it poisons water, including sources used by people.

“Poisoned animals are left to rot in the forest and waterways, and remain toxic for many, many months,” a spokesman said.

“Dropping deadly poison over our environment is not an acceptable practice, and it is not sustainable.

“There are many alternatives that contribute positively to our communities and our employment opportunities that do not risk our health and our environment.

“We support sustainable, responsible conservation that benefits local communities and respects our environment, including all creatures great and small.”

Meanwhile a reply to an Official Information Act request from Locals for Responsible Conservation, received in March, raised more questions, glossed over the risks and showed that DOC had misled the public about the cost of the operations and local support for the drop, the group said.

A number of the groups listed as having been consulted said they had not been, while others had wrongly been cited as supportive.

Research the truth about 1080 that your authorities are not telling you, the independent research. See links at our 1080 pages here, especially the resources page. Particularly you need to watch the GrafBoys’ 4x international award winning environmental doco called ‘Poisoning Paradise’ that your government doesn’t want you to see.

If you share the vision, watch out for the hikoi in your area & support by your presence, walking with them (long or short distance, whatever you can do) and/or providing them with refreshments. Contact details are at the information links provided above.

Hikoi of a Poisoned Nation UPDATE…

The Hikoi will continue as planned on Saturday 21st leaving The Strand Takapuna at 9am and following the previously arranged route to Onepoto Domain and onto the Harbour Bridge at 12noon.

Our application to NZTA for a supported bridge crossing has been declined. NZTA themselves have been supportive and helpful through this process but say it is too short notice to make arrangements. Emiles earlier communications to authorities were redirected, referred and ignored which has left us at the 11th hour.

NZTA have said they will be prepared and ready to manage an ‘unplanned event’ if that occurs. Please be aware that crossing the bridge on foot may incur a fine of $100. We are told that the police have no power to make arrests. Many of us feel strongly enough to walk regardless and believe the processing of our numbers by the authorities would be impractical.

We welcome your support on Saturday any way it comes. Please join the hikoi where you feel comfortable. You may choose to make the harbour crossing on foot in the hikoi tradition, by vehicle, waka….

Emile is walking under his sovereign native rights and anyone walking him with him will be under korowai manaaki under that context. Which basically means we are as one person.

Comment on FB from a supporter Royden Dick:

I was Blessed to get the opportunity to walk with the peaceful protesters on their Hikoi of a Poisoned Nation for the first 3 days from bluff.
We met some truly awesome, soulful, down to earth people along the way.
I am overwhelmed with the support these guys are receiving from the public on their journey whether it be Honks, toots, yeeha’s and woohoo’s from motorists to people stopping and giving koha’s of food and money to help these guys on their journey.

There was still the odd bird flicked our way and a dude pretending to shake the crap out of an imaginary can of coke and to these folks I say sorry to you for having such a sad and crappy day as you seem to be very angry and upset, I hope your day gets better for you.
Going off the support received so far the angry upset kiwi’s having a crappy day are the extreme minority, Seems as though everyone else is happy as.

NZ YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!!

I ask anyone and everyone who gets the opportunity to meet and join these guys on their travels to parliament to do so. Whether it be for 5 days or 5 minutes to make a stand against 1080 and all aerial poisons in Aotearoa. They are not walking for their own agendas and interests but for YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN.

I look forward to walking again as soon as possible.
Thanks again guys and Kia Kaha.

DoC sows 1080 bait on snow in spite of their Code of Practice saying not to

THE TIMARU CREEK, LAKE HAWEA, 1080 DROP ZONE IS COVERED IN SNOW!

Thanks to Carol Sawyer, Clyde Graf and Ron Eddy for this information:

The 1080 poison is due to be aerially dropped within the next couple of weeks. Prefeed baits were dropped on May 28, 2018.

Here is why 1080 baits should not be dropped in snowy, wintry conditions. According to the information below, DoC’s 2014 Code of Practice suggests : “Avoid sowing toxic baits on snow. With regard to rocky outcrops, these should be evaluated along with other timing and boundary decisions in operational planning. Seek advice from technical and science advisors for your situation”.

********************************************************************

I received this email from Ron Eddy in March, 2017, re dropping 1080 in SNOW!:

“Now to 1080 in snow. …… at a meeting in St Arnaud where Josh Kemp, DoC’s Kea scientist was present Kemp answered my comment about dropping 1080 in snow. He replied “We never drop in snow.” I then pulled those photos out and silence reigned from the DoC side of the discussion. I think there was a drastic reduction in Nelson Lakes Kea after that 2008 drop because that was when they brought in the 2009 code of practice for 1080 operations in Kea habitat. That also brought in DoC’s Kea monitoring as the first operation shown on that chart is the 2008 Arawhata one. No mention of the Red Hills / Beeby’s / St Arnaud N Face or Upper Wairau ones though. In a reply to someone on the ‘net Kemp denied the Nelson Lakes NP area had had 1080 dropped on it at that time.
……..

About a week after the Upper Wairau operation into snow I went through an area of it and found 1080 baits that hadn’t been touched … they had blown up like sausages. 1080 lasts a lot longer in cold conditions, the cold keeps it viable and to me, those baits were still viable because the hard centres in them were still solid. They went ahead with that drop knowing we were in for a large drop of snow and to my mind they were wanting to get every possum they could even though they knew there were very few possums there . Their monitoring told them so.

To have a deep blanket of snow also took away the food sources of our native birds. For them to see bright green coloured cereal baits on top of the snow would have been an open invitation to have free feed. Especially the Kea. That no doubt is also the reason DoC now diversionary feed Kea during 1080 drops in the Nelson Lakes NP area. That still didn’t stop one Kea that we know of from dying from 1080 poisoning in the 2014 operation.

In DoC’s revised 2014 “DOC code of practice for aerial 1080 operations in Kea habitat” on page 12 is a series of questions and answers in regard to aerial 1080 operations. Question 3 reads, ” We are planning to sow 0.15% 1080 Pellets in some open alpine areas to protect Rock Wren. What is the best timing to achieve this, considering that there could be snow for some of the year? Should rocky areas above the tussock be excluded?”

The answer is “Avoid sowing toxic baits on snow. With regard to rocky outcrops, these should be evaluated along with other timing and boundary decisions in operational planning. Seek advice from technical and science advisors for your situation.”

Apart from the directive in that answer I think the rest of the above info should give you a pretty good idea why 1080 baits shouldn’t be dropped on snow. Considering Rock Wren live in rock outcrops it appears their lack of knowledge on this subject contributed towards the demise of those 25 Kahurangi NP Rock Wren in 2014….. ” Ron Eddy, St Arnaud

*******************************************************************

Clyde Graf said : “DoC dropped 1080 poison directly into snow in the Rainbow Skyfield area, St Arnaud – Nelson Lakes, back in 2008 I think it was. We filmed a bunch of poisoned birds laying on the snow, along with the baits. The poison is well preserved in snow, but these poisoning agencies are only about getting the poison dumped into the environment, not about what happens to it or where it ends up.” See photo above.
