Pike River: No more Government money for further mine recovery, families accept decision

The Minister in charge of Pike River won’t consider going further into the mine – a decision that’s been accepted “with heartbreak” by families involved. In a statement on Tuesday morning, the Pike River Family Reference Group said it now accepts official advice going further into the mine would be unsafe and expensive. Twenty-nine men lost their lives in the explosion in 2010, with the search for their remains the centre of an ongoing political battle.

Pike River mine survivor: ‘there are people in that mine that survived, just like I did’

“I think they’ve just tried to ease us into it by delaying it and pushing it back and back year after year. They’re just kicking us in the guts once more.”
There is no doubt in Daniel Rockhouse’s mind that he and Russell Smith were not the only two who survived the first Pike River mine explosion.
Rockhouse made his way out of the mine after a methane blast on November 19, 2010, dragging Smith with him.
The friends were the only two men who came out alive after the explosion ripped through the West Coast coal mine, leaving 29 trapped inside – where they remain today.
He calls Solid Energy’s plans to permanently plug the mine with concrete “disgusting”.
Rockhouse said the fight for answers had been traumatising, stressful and emotional – to the point where he had stepped away. But his mother continued to battle.
Court declines Pike River families’ review bid

He had faced 12 health and safety charges relating to the deaths of 29 men after a series of explosions at the West Coast coal mine five years ago.
The prosecution was dropped after an insurance payment of more than $3 million was made to the families of the men who died.
Two women who lost family members in the disaster had asked the court to review the decision by Worksafe New Zealand not to offer any evidence on the charges.
Anna Osborne, whose husband was killed in the mine blast, and Sonya Rockhouse, whose son died, were assisted in their legal bid by the Council of Trade Unions (CTU).

Watch Key in the Newshub video (link in article below) gesticulating with his hands, bumbling along, trying to describe a package that might just possibly garner a few votes from the folks who have effectively wiped him now. It will make you nauseous I warn you. He is moving craftily from ‘let them eat cake’ to rations of sugary election sweets, which we all know won’t last beyond election day.
This is a man, a former banker, who has basically raped and pillaged our nation since he was elected, selling off our assets with little accountability, unloading our state housing stock that just happens to sit on prime real estate … while heartlessly ignoring the 41,000 plus who are homeless, promising lollies here for the poor … having ignored growing child poverty in his midst, taxing himself 2.8% and the real workers 28%, and telling us he has a family package that will aim to … get this …

This is breathtaking arrogance. Having quickly forgotten he grew up in a state house himself, he is totally ignorant of the true state of the nation under his watch. Key: Families first in line for tax cuts
The Prime Minister has indicated any tax cuts offered next year are likely to be delivered with a scalpel, rather than a hammer.
The 2017 Budget will be delivered in May as usual, about six months ahead of the general election, where John Key is expected to seek a fourth term.
Speaking on The Nation on Saturday, Mr Key said there is a “range of options”, but hinted that he’s leaning towards tweaks to Working for Families and the accommodation supplement.
Simply cutting tax rates or lifting the thresholds at which higher rates kick in wouldn’t be “fair to everybody”.
“If you lower the bottom rate, you give it to everybody at the top and it costs a fortune,” he explained.
“Whereas you might be able to do some integrated family package… which delivers fairness to everybody but a bit more meaningful at the lower-income end.”
But changes to income tax brackets haven’t been ruled out. Presently, the top rate of 33 cents in the dollar kicks in at $70,000. As incomes rise, more people find themselves earning enough to start paying the top tax rate.
“People are getting bumped into the top personal rate without doing too much,” says Mr Key.
Asked if beefing up the accommodation supplement was on the cards, particularly in areas where rents have risen sharply, Mr Key said: “That may well be right.”
He hasn’t yet decided whether any changes would come in Budget 2017 or used to woo voters in next year’s election campaign.

I find this particularly shocking. 533% MORE! What could our authorities be thinking? Do their babies eat this poison? Best to prepare your own organic vegetables Kiwis. PESTICIDES TO STAY IN BABY FOOD
Pesticides are to stay in baby food, in spite of a petition presented to parliament. The Primary Production Committee decided today not to act on the Safe Food Campaign petition asking for zero tolerance for pesticide residues in baby food, even though such directives are currently in place in the European Union.
The Committee acknowledged the public interest to New Zealanders and the concern felt about toxins in food, especially for parents of new-borns and young children. However they did not call for a more extensive baby food residue surveillance programme, as suggested by the Safe Food Campaign.
“Every five to six years a mere eight samples of four different kinds of baby food are analysed for pesticide residues,” said Alison White, Co-convenor of the Safe Food Campaign, “and this is absolutely inadequate.”
“Certain pesticides, including some detected in New Zealand baby food, have been found to be linked to cancer progression and endocrine or hormonal disruption,” said Dr Heli Matilainen of the Safe Food Campaign.
Pesticides were found in over 30% of baby food samples in the last Total Diet Survey in 2009. Ms White contrasted this to the EU: “New Zealand baby food had 533% more pesticide residues. The EU had an average of less than 6% of baby food samples positive for pesticide residues over 6 years.”
“We want to make parents more aware of the dangers that certain pesticide residues pose to babies and young children,” Ms White stated. “To this end, we are running a campaign the week of the 15 June to protect our children from toxic pesticides here in New Zealand, following the pesticide awareness campaign of Pesticide Action Network Asia Pacific. More details will be available on our website.”

The Illusion of Democracy – Horowhenua District Council is Rolling its new Deputy Mayor and Won’t be Opening The Books … What’s to Hide?
The recent Local Government elections saw Horowhenua District Council with a new Mayor, former Cr Michael Feyen who selected new Deputy Mayor, Ross Campbell. Perhaps indicative of HDC’s current stance, the powhiri and swearing in was only briefly featured on HDC’s web pages, clearly not ecstatic about the voters’ choice. And the announcement to roll the new deputy came two days ago when Mayor Feyen stated on his FB page he’d received an email stating that …
“all … Councilors have decided now they do not want Cr Ross Campbell as the Deputy Mayor…”
Horowhenua’s new Mayor Michael Feyen speaks about the cool reception he’s been given as new Mayor & describes how no justification has been offered for rolling his Deputy (apologies for video quality).
This all comes as no surprise given the turbulent history we’ve seen with this Council. Both councilors were ostracized historically for their insistence on truth and openness in Council dealings. Mayor Feyen, when a councilor, regularly posted videos on line exposing the pollution of Horowhenua and Manawatu waterways by both Council’s and local industry’s shoddy practices, saying HDC was a “top drawer polluter”. (See that video here plus his filming of Landcorp’s negligent practices).
Cr Campbell was vilified for filming the discharge of raw sewage into Shannon’s waterways, earlier this year (all denied by Council), and was physically assaulted in 2004 in relation to similar activity.
His accomplice in his most recent capturing of evidence this year, was also physically assaulted and kicked, making headline news. For more info on those somewhat intriguing and surreal events go here. Basically, according to former Councilor Mrs Anne Hunt, the HDC has a culture of bullying Crs into denying Council’s role in polluting the waterways, that aside from telling its councilors how to vote. (See here also).
Other Issues
There are other issues these two have made known they are not happy about, like the relatively new council building that has large cracks in the basement. (CE Clapperton and the HDC establishment insist this is safe citing two prior reports done at the cost of some $135K). Mayor Feyen has ordered another independent inspection that he’s stated he is willing to resource himself if necessary. Then there’s the issue that HDC was instrumental in the decision to issue a third liquor license that Shannon locals did not want. More to come on that one. And the issue that HDC appear to not be consulting the public as thoroughly as they claim, witness the recent moving-of-the-Foxton cenotaph issue and the sale of the community housing stock. Finally, on the building cracks, HDC announced following the recent major quake on 13th November that there are no additional cracks … contrary to Mayor Feyen’s mention in his video update early on the morning after the quake that there were now more cracks. Perhaps quite aptly, as Alice in Wonderland would say, it’s all getting ‘curiouser and curiouser’. The new building was only opened in 2007, and it has large cracks in the basement … is this the new norm?
Note: this council, like many in NZ now, pay mere lip service to the nice sounding ‘sustainable development’ rhetoric that their websites are replete with, reflecting the UN’s forward thinking plan Agenda 21 which is not all that it seems. Under its watch NZ’s rivers have become 60 percent 
unswimmable. Sustainable? Perhaps for corporate pockets but not for the environment. From the time councils were corporatised ie following Rogernomics in the late 1980s, they have masqueraded as democracies where in fact they are running on a business model (all registered at Dun and Bradstreet’s website). Right now, although the Mayor was voted in by the people, nevertheless the council appears to have him effectively hamstrung. At their first Council meeting following the election, the proposal to open the council’s books, and to not sell the community housing stock, were … as per usual … voted against by all except the Mayor and his new Deputy.
HDC has $100 Million Debt
As noted, Mayor Michael Feyen asked for Council’s books to be opened.(Read minutes at this link – opening-the-books-Horowhenua- DC November-2016) Both he and Cr Campbell have been long time critics of the level of debt the Council is in (in spite of a supposedly well qualified CE who is paid the handsome salary of $250K + for his services). Indicative of the apparent power he holds perhaps? (By comparison the Mayor is paid only $99K). Pre corporate take over we had a town clerk who was only moderately rewarded and he kept the council out of debt.
Prior to the election HDC’s regime was vehemently denying the level of debt the Council was in (said by them to be $68 million not $100 million). They’ve argued on a pinhead over that level which somewhat detracts from the real issue here. Why is $68 million or even $1 million debt acceptable? Whatever happened to the time-tested strategy of not spending what you don’t have, as Cr Campbell is pointing out in his video here? We all know that the borrower is servant to the lender. Back in 2014 when he tried to highlight the fiscal mismanagement of Council, he was told by the Mayor at the time that his question was “not liked” and he “wouldn’t be spoken to again!” A curious response.

So, here we have a responsible Cr trying repeatedly (wasn’t his first time) to steer the Council in more prudent directions, being told to pretty much ‘sit down and shut up’. And the Council has currently voted to not open the books. One would have to ask, are they hiding something? Perhaps it is the alleged ‘insider trading’ that Cr Campbell refers to in this video …

Our Mayor … some of you might not know this … our mayor has formed a group of his closest business associates. They’re the people who he mixes with. And together with these associates there are developers, there are retailers, there are manufacturers, contractors, who have been selected by him. They’ve formed themselves into what we call an Economic Development Committee. That’s what the Council calls it but I actually call it an Economic Advantage Committee … over their competitors … Cr Ross Campbell
Clearly this non-elected group has quite a lot to lose from hereon in with such environmentally friendly leadership in charge. No small wonder Cr Campbell is being rolled.
So, what do these two democratically elected, yet supposedly ‘renegade’ representatives of Horowhenua voters want for our district? … ah …
- Clean drinking water
- A clean Lake Horowhenua (chronically polluted by previous Councils to the extent it could now kill a small child if ingested)
- a commuter train service from Levin to Wellington
- the retention of Horowhenua’s affordable community housing for the elderly
- no debt
- clean recreational waterways
- true partnership with iwi
- the closure of the leachate leaking Levin Landfill
- a stop to pollution of our waterways
- opening of the Council books … honesty & transparency
- more public participation at Council
Mayor Feyen remains hopeful and positive … in his own words he concludes:
” I’m very very positive and I know I’ve been voted in to make change, to look at fixing the water, to look at fixing Lake Horowhenua, to look at removing the dump, to looking at our books, to having governance lead this area, so this is commuter trains … everything I got voted in for … I’m definitely looking for public support… that’s what you voted for and I’ll continue working for those things while I’m here as the Mayor. It would most definitely be easier with my current Deputy Mayor so I’ll just see what life serves me up … just keeping you informed like I promised we would do”.
Please do share this information. Like our new leaders we also want honesty and transparency. We want our Council to support the leadership chosen by the voters and move our district forward in true sustainable development … and not the kind that merely fattens corporate purses. We voted for change.

THE PETITION
The Horowhenua District Council is tendering our stock of community housing for sale to an alternative community housing provider. Grey Power however, believes that provision of affordable housing must remain a core activity for central and local government…”The proposal to sell pensioner housing, a key determinant of community wellbeing, is a direct antithesis to community wellbeing”.
We also see the withdrawal of affordable housing for the elderly and disabled as a backward step especially in light of growing homelessness in our country. We believe that in the longer term, an alternative provider will place economic factors above caring for the elderly and therefore request that they halt the tendering of these properties for sale.
Why is this important?
In April this year the Horowhenua District Council announced it was tendering their stock of community housing for sale to an alternative community housing provider.
The justification given by councils NZ wide, including, Horowhenua, to cease providing housing, has been that Government withdrew its responsibility in this respect (including funding) some time back.
HDC insist they’ve identified that “the ‘most sustainable’ way forward for delivering pensioner housing was to transfer the stock and the responsibility to a housing provider that had the focus and resources to respond to the housing needs of the district.” At the same time they say they “… want to ensure that community housing in Horowhenua remains accessible and affordable, and is also connected to services that enhance social connectedness and wellbeing.”
Horowhenua’s Grey Power however, disagrees saying it is their belief that provision of affordable housing must remain a core activity for central and local government. “The proposal to sell pensioner housing, a key determinant of community wellbeing, is a direct antithesis to community wellbeing” they say, and “a council is in a position to see issues across its district and should have concerns about its constituency … a social housing provider will not have the same view.”
We also see the withdrawal of affordable housing for the elderly and disabled as a backward step. HDC state on their Positive Ageing Action Plan that “Horowhenua is a district that embraces its older residents as a highly valued integral part of the community”. We would like to see that plan include the option of the ongoing provision of affordable housing for the elderly, especially in the light of growing homelessness in our country. Handing over this responsibility to private and corporate interests is not going to guarantee they remain housed. A business will always strive to maximize profits and not to ensure the housing of the more vulnerable. It is simply not in their mandate. We therefore do not believe that any clause of sale that stipulates the needs of the elderly be considered will be effective, and that any such provision would eventually be discarded in favour of economic interests.
In line with their pledge to partnership, HDC have said that iwi and current tenants were consulted. Public feedback however is not confirming this. We would like to see some transparency on this pre sale history.

Studies show that 1080 can cause foetal skeletal malformation, cardiomyopathy/damage to heart muscle, and testicular effects/reduction in sperm count in animals.

NZ Super Fund’s $200m loss

Almost $200 million of taxpayer money invested through the Kiwi Superannuation Fund has been lost after a Portuguese bank where the money was invested, supposedly as a “risk free” loan, collapsed.
The Super Fund, set up with public money to cover partly the retirement costs of baby boomers, has revealed it had been caught up in last year’s collapse of Banco Espirito Santo (BES) and a US$150m (NZ$198m) investment made in July had been completely wiped out.
The investment was a contribution to a Goldman Sachs-organised loan to the Portuguese bank, but only weeks after the money was injected it imploded, with president and founder Ricardo Salgado arrested as part of a criminal investigation into tax evasion.
After disclosing billions of Euros in losses, and facing a run on funds by depositors, the bank collapsed in a heap and was broken up in August.
Goldman Sachs, described by Rolling Stone as “the great vampire squid” for their sharp business practices in the run-up to the global financial crisis, today said it would “pursue all appropriate legal remedies without delay” in an attempt to recover the loans to BES.

Last month (article dated 2011 note) 7 out of the nine tagged Kea monitored by radio tagging during the recent North Okarito aerial 1080 drop were found dead.
DoC assured the public that 1080 bait types had been modified so Kea would not be affected. In fact, we think all they did was to reduce the wax content of the manufactured pellets in the assumption that they would be hard enough to deter the birds from eating them.
The iconic parrots, Kea and Kaka have very powerful beaks they use to tear apart tree limbs to access food. GO FIGURE~!

Where Your Asset Sales Money Went Kiwis
Where did the asset sales money go? The slush fund pretty much according to Winston Peters … not where Bill English said it would go:
“The fund will provide New Zealanders with better public assets, such as modern schools, hospitals, roads, rail and public transport without increasing the debt burden on future generations” Bill English, Finance Minister 2012
This sounds like a cruel joke in light of current events. Pollution is so rife (thinking the honourable minister’s “future generations” statement) wild food is now so poisoned it’s largely inedible, waters we can only wade in, and hospitals, roads, rail etc have never been worse! I heard recently of a person who lay for literally hours in a cold corridor in one of our hospitals’ A&E (known as ED elsewhere) crying out for the toilet, too sick to get up, who got a round telling off when she soiled the bed! Waits in there currently can be many many hours. Still according to the minister, who doubtless on his salary can afford private insurance, membership fees for the IMF is far more important, to the tune of $23 million*. Remember this image? So why ever would Bill & his colleagues want us to prosper?
*(A fellow blogger tells me the IMF cost is FACTA legislation and should have been paid for by the US government as it is their legislation, read about FACTA at her blog here).
Proceeds from National’s state asset sell-off is being used to cover all sorts of costs like the TVNZ video archive, membership of an Asian bank and a visitor centre at Government House.
That’s despite Finance Minister Bill English promising in 2011 that all revenue from the sales would be put in a Future Investment Fund to pay for “schools, hospitals, roads, rail and public transport”.
But the latest breakdown of the fund’s expenditure shows just 55 percent of the spending fits that brief.
So what happened to the money?
Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank
One big ticket item is our membership to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank which was funded as part of this year’s Budget and came in at a cost of $144M.
World Bank
Another bank membership has also been paid for out of the fund. In 2014, the fund was used to pay $23 million for a subscription to the World Bank.
Computer programme for ministers
Some of the cash was also splashed on the Prime Minister and Cabinet with investment into a document management project, CABnet, which received $2.6M in 2012 and a further $1.8M in 2014 — a total of $4.4M.
Doing up Government House
In all, $500,000 was also allocated to the Prime Minister and Cabinet to be spent on a new Visitor Centre at Government House in 2012.
Miscellaneous
Modernising the War Pensions Act 1954 and the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act was allocated $6M.

John Key blames Helen Clark for housing crisis
A midwife is expected to tell how she’s had to deliver babies at night by the light of her cellphone at the cross-party inquiry into homelessness.
The inquiry, set up by Labour, the Greens and the Maori Pary, is in Tauranga on Monday. The Government blocked efforts to open an official investigation into the crisis, which is at record levels according to both research and social agencies like the Salvation Army.
“In her submission she talks about delivering babies by the light of her cellphone in squalid houses that don’t have any electricity,” Labour housing spokesperson Phil Twyford told Paul Henry.
Labour wants a state of emergency declared over the housing crisis, particularly in Auckland where prices are at record highs and still rising.
Prime Minister John Key says that won’t happen, and the housing crisis – if it is one – is not his fault.
“Under the nine years that Helen was Prime Minister, my friend, nationally house prices went up 102 percent. Under us in eight years, they’ve gone up 43. In Auckland they went up 87 percent I think – under us it’s about the same,” he said.
“If it was a state of emergency now, a crisis now, why wasn’t it a state of emergency and a crisis then?”

Following the recent shocking news about 1080 drops into the streams that flow into Lake Taupo, this info from an OIA request is very interesting. Now would you not, with that many precious and rare native birds, be testing as to HOW they died? You surely would not just presume, pests? And would you not actually TEST for poison, any poison?
Not long ago we posted an article on DOC’s failure to show one endangered species in recovery, in spite of $3.5 BILLION being spent! That’s a large sum of money to just shrug your shoulders at. There needs to be some accountability. People are asking questions and rightly so.
These Kiwis were only the tagged ones too, so the numbers may well be just the tip of the iceberg!

Clearly folk have not read it in its entirety. And the point of my introductory remarks is that the dead birds were not tested by DOC for cause of death. Surely a logical thing to do, not just expect the public to assume/believe it wasn’t 1080?

“It has been revealed through an OIA request that tagged kiwi have been dying in large numbers in one of our most heavily 1080 treated forests.
Aerial 1080 drops first began in the Tongariro Forest in 1976 and have been followed with subsequent drops in parts of the forest in 1988, 1989, 1991, and over much of the forest in 1995, 1996, 1997, 2001, and 2006. Another drop was carried out last week covering around 15,000 hectares.
It would be reasonable to assume, after so much 1080 poison has been spread across the forest, there could be no sign of a ferret or stoat for miles – surely?
Not so. In the last 5 years, revealed through the DoC OIA request, 89 tagged kiwi, of all ages, have died in the Tongariro forest. Keeping in mind that the tagged kiwi only represent a fraction of the wild population, the actual numbers, from a population perspective, may be enormous.
More concerning is what’s killing the birds. The assumed cause of death, in most cases … is predation by ferret. We are told by DoC kiwi can defend themselves from mustelid attacks, once they reach 1.5kg in weight. Yet, many of these birds are adults.
When discussing the use of 1080, the DoC use sentences like “overwhelmingly successful”, “very effective”, “rapid knockdown” to justify their poisoning campaigns.
“It’s the best tool we have for managing pests, and keeping predators at bay.” At least that’s what we’re lead to believe by The Department of Conservation, the PCE, and Forest and Bird.
But what’s really killing the birds? Surely not predators, going by what we’re told about the effectiveness of 1080 at eliminating them. If it is predators, it would also be reasonable to say that the use of 1080 poison clearly isn’t working. Surprisingly, given so much poison has been dropped across the forest, not a single kiwi from the 89 deaths has been tested for 1080 poison residues.
DoC say that the time-frames for the poison drops don’t line up with the likelihood that 1080 could be a cause of death. Given the amount of poison dropped in the forest over the last 35 years, all endemic species found dead within the poisoned boundaries should be tested for poison residues, simply to eliminate toxins as a cause of death. Surely?
More concerning is the fact that in the last 15 years, with tens of millions of hectares of habitat being poisoned, only 5 kiwi across all of New Zealand have been tested for 1080 poison residues. It should be noted that kiwi are known to eat 1080 cereal bait, and 1080 residues have been detected in kiwi droppings.
On top of the 7 poisoned kea three weeks ago, the 3 poisoned kaka earlier in the year, the loss of 11 kiwi at Mt Bruce, 21 ruru in the Waitutu, the poisoned fernbirds, robins, tomtits and others, it is becoming more clear that the experiments with 1080 poison across our forests, aren’t working.
After 35 years of poisoning campaigns, and desperately trying, there still isn’t a single, credible scientific research paper that demonstrates a net population benefit to any native species through the use of aerially applied 1080 poison. Not one! And yet the drops continue.
Responsible, ground control methods do work. 50,000 hectares of the northern Te Urewera National Park is managed by DoC, trappers and volunteers. No aerial 1080 poison is used. We need to encourage, and replicate these methods, and eliminate the future use of aerially applied poisons.
The Election is less than two months away. If you’d like to see an end to 1080 poison, and more responsible, sensible methods of pest control implemented, please consider giving your party vote to UnitedFuture – the only party in government to make the banning of 1080, policy.

1080 kiwi claims extremely misleading
The Department of Conservation is concerned factual information about kiwi deaths in the Tongariro Forest has been inaccurately portrayed by anti-1080 campaigners.
A media statement released yesterday by anti-1080 campaigner Clyde Graf linked biodegradable 1080 with the death of 89 kiwi in the Tongariro Forest Kiwi Sanctuary over the past five years.
The release, titled “89 Dead Kiwi – 1080 clearly not working” selectively quoted information provided by DOC and claimed that 1080 drops in the forest had failed to protect kiwi.
It also suggested the biodegradable toxin itself could be responsible for the kiwi deaths.
However DOC says the release fails to point out that 1080 – which breaks down naturally in soil within weeks – was last used in the forest sanctuary almost four months before the first recorded kiwi death.
“We know that kiwi are at very low risk from 1080. DOC has monitored more than 280 kiwi both through and after aerial 1080 operations – some for well over a year – and we have never lost a single bird to 1080.” said Dr. Avi Holzapfel, DOC’s Kiwi Recovery Group leader.
“Claiming that the data shows that 1080 does not control predators is equally misleading. Only about half the deaths could be linked to predation, and the majority of these were chicks killed by stoats in years when 1080 was not used”
“Mr Graf fails to point out that chick survival in this forest more than doubled in each of the two years after the last 1080 operation in 2006 when stoat numbers were very low, compared to years without 1080.”
“Rather than claiming that ongoing predation shows that our pest control is not working, Mr Graf should have put more focus on the fact that predator control at Tongariro has resulted in many more kiwi surviving than would have otherwise. Claiming that 1080 has failed because some kiwi are still being killed by predators is like saying that an emergency department in a hospital is failing because it can not save everyone.
Dr. Holzapfel acknowledges the impact ferrets have on adult birds, with more than 10 adult kiwi having been killed by these predators. “We are learning that ferrets in particular are a significant threat to adult kiwi, and we are adjusting our management to protect birds against this emerging threat. It demonstrates the many pressures kiwi are facing in the wild. But it is extremely misleading to suggest 1080 has somehow played a role in these deaths, ”

RE – In response to DoC’s “1080 kiwi claims extremely misleading”.
Firstly, I’d like to thank The Department of Conservation for the opportunity to raise further issues relating to the poor life expectancy for kiwi in the heavily 1080 poisoned Tongariro Forest.
DoC claim in their response…”we have never lost a single bird (kiwi) to 1080″. That’s an astounding statement! If DoC had have tested every kiwi that died within the poisoned area, they could make that claim. The fact is, from the information supplied, they haven’t tested a single bird for 1080 poison residues from within the Tongariro Forest. Therefore, the claim is redundant.
Given the absence of randomisation, replication, and controls in much of DoC research, it is difficult to come to any sound conclusion when referring to what the likely outcome would be if 1080 were not used. But taking into account the persistence of the department in defending it’s use of 1080, the data would likely be biased – hence the need for blinding.
In their response, DoC also claim … “Mr Graf fails to point out that chick survival in this forest more than doubled in each of the two years after the last 1080 operation in 2006 when stoat numbers were very low, compared with years without 1080”.
Once again, an astounding statement. Chick survival in the Tongariro Forest doesn’t look good, going by the information supplied by the DoC.
The following Information is contained in the DoC OIA …
Between September 2007 and March 2011 (about 4.5 years) 88 kiwi chicks were fitted with radio transmitters. Of these, only 5 are known to be alive – and of these, 3 were tagged within the last year.
So, only 2 kiwi chicks, from 85 (88, less the 3 fitted in the last 11 months) fitted with radio tags for a period of between 1 year and 4.5 years, are known to be still alive. That’s just over 2%.
If the 3 chicks that have been fitted in the last year are included, the percentage of known survivors from the original 88 is just over 5%. But this doesn’t mean these 5 birds are going to make it to adulthood. Chances are, they won’t.
Many birds are killed in the sub-adult age group. Of the 38 birds tagged between April 2006 and May 2010, 8 are known to be alive.
From July 2010, to July 2011, 25 sub-adult birds have been tagged. There has been a 1080 free period in the forest, since 2006 (up until a couple of weeks ago). Of these more recent 25 tagged birds, 22 were still alive as of the 31st of July 2011.
Of the 67 adult birds radio tagged, 24 are stated as being alive, as of July 2011.
19 are assumed to have been predated on, and 7 classed as “unknown” and “misadventure”. (Why were these birds not tested, to eliminate poison as a cause of death?). The remainder dropped their tracking equipment.
Kiwi can live for over 60 years. If so few kiwi chicks make it to adulthood in the Tongariro, and the tiny percentage that do are likely to be predated on, kiwi look like being extinct in the Tongariro forest within a generation.
It would seem the data is being selectively analysed by the DoC, and the public are being mis-informed. DoC are focusing on claiming they get a certain percentage of fledgling survival from many species of native birds, including kiwi. Fledgling success has nothing to do with population success. What good is it if a chick lives for a few months and dies, or is killed before reproducing?
If the data was analysed correctly, and looked at life-span, and not “fledgling success”, it would be determined that the use of 1080 for pest control, isn’t working. Not only is 1080 poisoning the entire ecosystem, it’s endangering the welfare of our native wildlife.
The information being fed to the public is that 1080 is helping kiwi survive, when in fact, there’s absolutely no evidence of that. New methodology is needed urgently – not more poison.
Conversely, we are informed that 5% of kiwi in untreated areas make it to adulthood. With targeted pest control, using trapping and non-persistent poisons, (not 1080) that figure could be raised substantially – if the use of 1080 was abandoned. Victor McClean, a kiwi recovery contractor on the Coromandel Peninsula, claims to get over 50% chick survival – without 1080 poison.
As a representative for UnitedFuture, I can say that I will be working hard to ensure that the UnitedFuture policy of banning 1080, is realised – and more responsible, sustainable pest control methods are employed.
Some facts on 1080 poison –
1080 is not only a primary (kills victim after ingesting the bait) killer, but also causes secondary poisoning. For example, if a kea eats a poisonous bait, as was the case 3 weeks ago, it will die. If a kea, the only carrion (dead flesh) eating parrot in the world, were to eat a 1080 poisoned possum carcass, it may also die from secondary poisoning.
Poisoned carcasses can kill for months, even years after primary poisoning occurs.
1080 is persistent, especially in winter. Baits can last for months in dry and cold areas – and in regard to how 1080 breaks down in soil – research is still being undertaken.
1080 is a broad spectrum insecticide, and many of our native birds are killed by eating poisoned insects. Kiwi are omnivores – meaning they eat insects, and other types of foods. The Tongariro food supply of many native species has been repeatedly poisoned over the last 35 years. It’s hardly any wonder kiwi aren’t doing well. We could safely assume many other native species are in the same boat.
We are yet to see the full impact that the poisoning of New Zealand forests is going to have.

Families with children now 53% of NZ’s staggering 41,000 homeless
This is very disturbing news. For starters 41,000 homeless is shocking beyond belief, in a land that once cared for its own. Top dollar for the real estate speculators is all that seems to matter now in Paradise as Key curries the favour of his rich friends and continues to profit from our growing indebtedness. All the while mouthing the hollow professions about building more homes … and selling off the existing housing stock from a corporation that was still making a profit. “More than half of New Zealand’s 41,000 homeless people are now families with children, according to new University of Otago research.
The new analysis shows that 21,797 children and their parents were in “severe housing deprivation” on Census day in 2013, up dramatically from 15,085 in the previous 2006 Census.
Surprisingly, single adults in severe housing deprivation declined from 9759 to 7763, and adults in couples and living with their adult children or parents increased from 3424 to 4898.
As the housing market gets tighter, single people have more flexibility and potentially more options open to them, whereas families with children don’t.
Overall numbers in severe housing deprivation rose from 28,917 in 2001 and 33,946 in 2006 (both 0.8 per cent of all New Zealanders) to 41,207 (1 per cent) in 2013.

Deer Mass Poisoned – Lake Taupo Farmer Speaks Out
On the 3rd Of July 1080 poison bait was spread across 50,000 hectares of the Hauhungaroa Ranges, which are situated on Western Bays of Lake Taupo.
Beef and sheep farmer Lance Aldrige was informed by a farm hand that he had found four poisoned deer laying on the farm four days after the aerial operation was completed. A field trip was arranged so that Waikato Regional Councillors could be shown the impacts of the resource consents their Council issues.
Many more poisoned deer were found as the group made their way around the farm and bush edges. Lance Aldridge has had to endure the impacts of aerial poison drops for over 30 years ” This is the sort of thing a lot of people don’t see. They do the drops, and they walk away. They never see the aftermath like we see.” He goes on to explain on camera how the operations are difficult to live and work around.

The subject of Kiwisaver has certainly raised a lot of questions lately with regard to the investment of funds by our corporation. Likewise have been the questions around our PM’s ongoing alliance with the US war machine. Check this one out!
Hundreds of thousands of KiwiSaver members in government-appointed default schemes may be unknowingly investing in companies making cluster bombs and anti-personnel mines.

At least five of the nine default KiwiSaver providers invested in these types of companies, despite them being banned by government agencies such as the New Zealand Superannuation Fund and ACC.
The Green Party and Amnesty International say the government must review default providers that have investments in these weapons.
People who sign up to KiwiSaver but do not pick a scheme to enrol in are automatically allocated to one of nine providers hand-picked by the government.
These default providers are ANZ, Westpac, ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank, AMP, Mercer, Grosvenor and Fisher Funds.
More than 500,000 people are enrolled in default schemes, according to figures supplied by Inland Revenue.
An investigation by RNZ has found the default funds run by ANZ, Westpac, ASB, AMP and Grosvenor invested in the anti-personnel mine manufacturer Northrop Grumman and nuclear weapon or base operators Fluor Corp, Honeywell International and Lockheed Martin.
Westpac, ASB, BNZ, Grosvenor and AMP also invested in cluster bomb manufacturers General Dynamics and Textron.
The New Zealand Superannuation Fund and ACC are not allowed to invest in any of these companies because of the government’s obligations under international conventions banning the use of these weapons and investment in the companies that make them.

“Housing New Zealand applied to evict 4 per cent of its tenants in the year to June.
The state agency has told the Herald, in response to an Official Information Act request, that it applied to the Tenancy Tribunal to end 2247 tenancies in the year to June last year, and 2591 in the latest year.
The latest number is 4 per cent of its 65,543 state rentals as at March this year – one in every 25 tenants, excluding homes rented to community groups.
Auckland Tenants Protection Association manager Dr Angela Maynard said the agency was effectively evicting people into homelessness because it was meant to be the housing agency of last resort.
“If you’ve been evicted from a Housing NZ house, the private sector doesn’t want to know you. Are they supposed to go on the streets?” she asked.
But Labour housing spokesman Phil Twyford said taxpayers would want the state agency to be “tough but fair”.
“Most people would want Housing NZ to have the wisdom of Solomon,” he said.
“You want them to be compassionate, particularly to tenants who might be pretty challenging to deal with, but also tough but fair when it comes to making sure, as a good landlord, that state house tenants are good neighbours and look after their houses.”
Housing NZ government relations manager Rachel Kelly said she could only provide figures for the past two years because applications to the Tenancy Tribunal were not recorded centrally before July 2014.
“Housing NZ will only apply to the Tenancy Tribunal to end a tenancy as a last resort,” she said.
“For example, when a tenant falls behind in their rent their tenancy manager will contact the tenant to attempt to make a repayment arrangement.”
She said tenancy managers handed tenants to debt specialists if they fell more than 21 days behind in their rent. If a specialist could not arrange repayments the agency then sought mediation, and only went to the tribunal if mediation failed.
But Alastair Russell of Auckland Action Against Poverty said he was supporting a mother, three adult children and two grandchildren, including an 18-month-old baby, who had been issued a 90-day eviction notice because a friend’s dog attacked their tenancy manager.
“There are provisions for Auckland Council to remove dogs if they are a danger, so why would any socially responsible landlord kick people out on this basis?” he asked.
Maynard, who has been in her role since 2003, said Housing NZ “hardly ever” went to the tribunal for eviction orders until the past few years.
“They didn’t really give 90-day notices, they didn’t really evict many people. It was a really extreme situation in the past if they did,” she said. “They are very cavalier with their evictions now.”
Property Investors Federation executive officer Andrew King said Housing NZ’s applications to evict 4 per cent of its tenants were “probably a little bit higher” than the average for private landlords, but that reflected the state’s more “challenging” clients.
Housing NZ’s applications to terminate tenancies were 15.3 per cent of all landlord applications to the Tenancy Tribunal for all reasons in the latest year to June. The agency’s 65,543 tenancies represent 14.5 per cent of the 453,000 rented homes in New Zealand in the 2013 Census.
Disabled man faces eviction
A man who has been partially disabled since a horrific truck accident a year ago is being evicted by Housing New Zealand because he didn’t declare income of almost $35,000.
Stuart Wilkinson, who turned 50 today, has lived for 14 years in a state house in the Christchurch suburb of Parklands with his wife Leeann and their two children now aged 18 and 15.
He said he spent his birthday “barricading” the house after a Tenancy Tribunal hearing last Wednesday ordered the termination of the tenancy and Housing NZ told him to leave the house ready for a final inspection by Housing NZ today.
“We have just barricaded ourselves in,” he said.
“They initially gave us a 90-day notice ending on August 22. We are prepared to be out by then, but we can’t be expected to shift out and have somewhere to go within four days.”
Wilkinson was severely injured when he was driving a truck and had to swerve off the road to avoid a car that he said was driving on the wrong side of the road near Waimate in June last year.
His doctor Dr Simon Wynn-Thomas wrote last week that the accident left him with “an incomplete tetraplegia which means, whilst he is not permanently in a wheelchair, he has significant mobility issues and is [in] very severe pain”.
However he admitted that he did not declare the income from that job and other short-term jobs between 2012 and 2015 which Social Development Ministry deputy chief executive Carl Crafar said created a debt to the ministry of $34,659 because his state house rent was based on 25 per cent of his income.
Crafar said Wilkinson pleaded guilty to not declaring the income and was now awaiting sentencing.
Housing NZ regional manager Jackie Pivac said her agency issued a 90-day eviction notice in May after the ministry told it that Wilkinson was being prosecuted.
She said Wilkinson then stopped paying rent, so the agency went to the Tenancy Tribunal to end his tenancy “immediately” and to recover $3519 in rent arrears.
Wilkinson confirmed that he did not declare income from work.
“I know it’s wrong,” he said.
“In that period I never worked more than three months at a job. I was paranoid that I wouldn’t have a job at the end of the 90 days [trial period]. I haven’t been working for years and I didn’t know if I could handle a job.”
He said a contractor who did work for Housing NZ advised him that he didn’t need to pay rent after he received a 90-day notice.

Banker Key’s Corporate Repackaging of War
With the upcoming ‘celebrations’ around the 2016 NZ DIA (NZ Defense Industry Association) Forum being held in Auckland on 16 – 17 November in conjunction with the RNZN 75th Anniversary celebrations, Operation Neptune, I took a peek at their website. You can reserve your spot with cocktails and trimmings for just $10,000.
“The NZ DIA was formed in 1993, as an industry development initiative. Its major emphasis today is on networking, and encouraging the membership to work together on developing joint approaches to defence projects in NZ and overseas”
Right there in the DIA’s mission statement is the strategic use of the word ‘defence’. The corporate bankers have need of war, it’s an integral part of the Rothschild banking empire, however, in order to not be too obvious, they need to sanitize it with ‘nicer’ words. Profiteering from war is no conspiracy but documented fact. Cheney’s Halliburton made $39.5 billion on the Iraq war. My elderly father who fought in one of the World Wars and was fortunate enough to return alive, had worked out that fact later in life … that “wars would never end because wars make money”. His oldest brother, a machine gunner, so deeply affected, he wept whenever he talked about war. So, there on the DIA’s website is the standard tribute of poppies to these brave men who served as basically cannon fodder for the war machine, a machine peopled by those who never spent one minute in trenches and never experienced the terror of combat. Remember Mrs Rothschild’s infamous words… “if my sons did not want war there would be none”.
Returning to the planned forum for November this year, Key’s corporation parading as a government (NZ is a US SEC registered corporation) put out a White Paper that was compiled we are told from the public’s and the academic community’s views, involving over 300 written submissions and meetings around the country. (See White Paper info here also).
I don’t particularly recall the road show, perhaps other readers do. Note the Ministry of Defence administers the Defence Act 1990, the era shortly after our nation became corporatized … courtesy of Rogernomics. Corporations are about profits. We are told in the White Paper that “… terrorism remains an enduring global problem”. Those who do their own research will know that the so called war on terror has been effectively drummed up since the very dodgy 9/11 attack that looked extremely like a controlled demolition. And the current threat to security, ISIS, has equally dodgy origins (watch Truth Media: the Origin of ISIS for more info on that).
The war industry is ticking along quite nicely in Aotearoa with banker Key at the helm, and synchronising equally as nicely with his growing partnership with the US. “The Government” [corporation] says Key, “has provided the Defence Force with a degree of funding certainty [$20 billion] that enables it to plan with confidence out to 2030 and beyond.” [Agenda 2030, see also Agenda 21/2030 in NZ] Download the White Paper and see what Key and Brownlee are spending your $20 billion on. Remember how ‘well’ they’ve managed the Christchurch disaster that they refer to in there. It’s an integral part of defence.
What I find particularly distasteful about this whole affair is the spin. One of my favourite investigative journalists John Pilger, describes their convoluted rhetoric so well in his essay, ‘Arming the World’ (in his book “Hidden Agendas” p 115). Describing the weapons (defence) industry he says: “Refined absurdity is always close at hand in the arms business. It squeezes into bed with secrecy, corruption and stupendous greed”. Asking what a British cluster bomb does (gleaming under “soft backlight, like the latest showroom Jaguar”) he is told they need his request in writing for MOD approval as the information is ‘classified’, the reason for which is also ‘classified’. The cluster bomb, Pilger explains “is not really a bomb at all, but an ‘area denial sub-munition’, a land mine in all but name. It is dropped from the air and explodes into forty-seven little mines, which are shaped like spiders.
These are scattered over a wide area and ‘deny’ life to anything that moves or grows.’ They’ve been found says Pilger, in Bosnia and Croatia where between two and four million mines threaten to main and kill long after the war ends. These salesmen he says, have great difficulty saying words like ‘people’, ‘maim’ and ‘kill’. Describing a cluster bomb’s ‘effectiveness’ he cites the little girl who in a Vietnam village lost her family …‘my mother and father were lying there covered in blood, and my sister … had pieces of metal in her, and so did her doll’.
The corporates know it is wrong, trading in weapons (they’re not averse to supplying both sides), this is why they have difficulty with these words. There is enough of old fashioned conscience there for them to need to cover their wording well, however not enough to stop the killing by curtailing their obscene greed. They are therefore very adept at reframing and repackaging. And so the weapons trade becomes the defence trade. The DIA have produced a video for their site to explain with typical corporate expertise, their modus operandi. Watching it you can almost hear the cash registers ringing (except we’re nearly cashless) complete with the bling of coloured lights as the cutting of steel flashes amidst the wording ‘Defence Industry Association’.

Your PM Key continues to tax himself and friends at 2.8%, continues to profit from your country’s indebtedness and the so called global war on terrorism, and is intent on the TPPA agreement which will give both he and his corporate friends even more control. Let’s face it, he is likely not too interested in changing any of the current status quo.

Blaming the Poor: NZ Govt Influencing WINZ & ACC Designated Doctors since 2008 “The Benefit is an Addictive Debilitating Drug – More Dangerous than Working on an Oil Rig” (Pt 2)

On July 21st I posted an article on welfare reforms indicating that being on a benefit is now considered by the powers that be, addictive and bad for one’s health. Since 1995 (not too long note, in the wake of late ’80s Rogernomics) paradigms and policies have been changing. Since 2008 certain NZ GPs have been undergoing training in the latest paradigm, behind the scenes, and unbeknown to many of us, to promote the new rationale & its implementation. A bizarre rationale that will tell you they are considering your long term good health by denying you an income if you are unable to work.
With the introduction of the Future Focus policies in 2010 the criteria for being considered sick, disabled and thus incapacitated to do any work, has been tightened substantially. WINZ expect their own Health and Disability Advisors, and the esignated doctors they regularly use and work with, to now primarily look at what a client CAN DO, rather than what they CANNOT DO! “A television expose (or documentary) on what has been going on at ACC (’60 minutes’ programme, TV3 on 09 Sept. 2012, available via ‘On Demand’ or You Tube showed what appalling strategies were followed there. It was revealed that ACC targeted complex, high cost claimants, by using preferred, hand-picked medical assessors, to prepare reports that favoured ACC”.
The long and the short of it is, the current Nat regime is out to cut costs. We already know that being jobless can breed hopelessness and despair … contrary to government spin most people actually want work in order to live comfortably and provide for their families. That’s not rocket science. And we also know there is no work available, that is not rocket science either. All this time they’ve been quietly dismantling the welfare state. Calling benefit receipt addictive neatly shifts the blame off the system and onto the recipient.
Don’t fall for it and don’t assume any guilt. This is a system run by people who have us all $114 billion in debt at $172 interest per second … with the wealthy taxed 2.8% and the minimum wage taxed 28%. Go figure. It is useful however to blame the vulnerable and weak and has been the way of the wealthy since before the banking industry began. The ‘let them eat cake’ brigade is nothing new. Just different trappings.
These new changes that began in the ’80s saw benefits slashed by $50 per week! A system that undermined full employment and created any welfare dependency they are now pretending to be concerned about, then ordered austerity measures (for low income people) to balance the books. There was of course no corresponding belt tightening as they called it, for the wealthy elite. This ‘working smarter’ budget was really the result of predatory loans taken out by irresponsible governments two decades earlier. Of course with IMF (or any other) loans always come conditions as they are simply leverage to control other peoples’ land and resources – via the back door. Remember this?
Those sweeping economic changes were precursors to what is going on now with our welfare system, the original safety net for those who fall through the cracks. Under full employment, providing food, shelter, warmth, education and health care were very 
achievable. Since Rogernomics, that has changed. Government departments and District Councils (enter your district council at the link & see) have become corporations that now run on a business model (some of us have noticed this) … the maximization of profits has taken precedence over people. That is their legal mandate. Even your country Kiwis is now a corporation. At the link on that, the question is raised, ‘can a corporation legally govern?’
Run as a corporation our pseudo-government is heading the way of other nations that are denying the sick and vulnerable mercy and care, controlling the food supply by denying the trading/growing of food , denying the option to choose natural healing over pharmaceuticals and making it illegal to collect rainwater off your roof. And so it will escalate if TPPA gets full sway.
The New Welfare Paradigm
All indications are, that here has been a clear attempt to influence the views, perception and judgment of designated doctors, which has led to “bias” of doctors involved (mostly GPs) when making assessments, decisions and recommendations about beneficiaries to Work and Income.
So, with the new restructuring agenda … came job cuts, funding cuts and the dismantling of everything pretty much that Aotearoa once stood for. And Doctors who formerly filled forms declaring a person was unfit for work, have been encouraged in the new model. Prescribing a benefit was actually going to be dangerous for their health.

The MSD has long been concerned about the growth of sickness and invalid’s beneficiary numbers, and hence looked at possible ways to contain the trend of more persons qualifying and going onto these types of benefit. The following extract from a report by Dr Neil Lunt, published in the Social Policy Journal of New Zealand, from March 2006 (Issue 27), under the section headline The background to reforming SB and IB, page 82 gives a brief insight, of what moves were made under the then National led government in the 1990s:
National’ s Welfare to Work brand (Player 1994, Ministry of Social Policy 2001) saw a new approach to medical certification for SB and IB. National’ s attempts at reform saw the introduction of the Designated Doctor Scheme in September 1995, with designated doctors having responsibility for assessing benefit eligibility, certifying applications for SB at 13 and 52 weeks, and certifying grants for IB, and recommending a possible review (12, 18, 24 months). From 1998, there was an alignment of SB rates with UB rates for new grants and the introduction of the Community Wage in place of UB and SB. In October 1998, the designated doctor review scheme was revised and doctors signing the certificate were able to certify SB for four weeks and then at 13-week intervals. For IB, designated doctors certify the granting of a benefit, with review being recommended by these doctors for two years, five years, or never. During the first part of 1999, there was also the trial of work capacity assessment for those with sickness, disability, or injury. A Phase one trial was undertaken but Phase two was never completed. The work capacity process for IB and SB sought to identify the level of work, if any, a beneficiary was capable of, and to determine what assistance would help them move into paid work (abridged from Wilson et al. 2005: 5 Table 1.1). The ‘independent’ designated Doctors are doing their best to push you off welfare into a jobless black hole of hopelessness and despair. Note the climbing suicide rate now. Those who create financial recessions show no mercy for such states of mind. Profit margins are more important.
“What is happening at MSD and WINZ at the moment may “appear” to be reasonable to many in the public, but there is much more to it than most think. The appointment of the Social Welfare Board by Paula Bennett shows that she and her government selected certain persons, who have also a strong “business” and staunchly resolute “work capacity” focused approach in reforming welfare in NZ. The appointment by Dr David Beaumont to the Social Welfare Advisory Board, a former chief advisor for ACC, and responsible for many appalling decisions there, gives reasons for utmost concern!
Ultimately the goal is to get as many persons off benefits and into any types of “open employment ” (on the market), which for sick and disabled will mostly be marginal, selected part time and casual work. The true agenda is cost saving, containing and possibly reducing beneficiary numbers, and the push to achieve this is now extremely forceful. It will cause immense pressures and in many cases actually harmful effects on person’s health. I honestly do not know how beneficiaries with mental illness and psychological conditions will cope. And we also know: The jobs are NOT there, even not so for the fit and healthy!
Most definitely there are many people, who have faced “designated doctor examinations ” that resulted in bizarre and clearly biased decisions, and in quite a number of cases the assessors or designated doctors being used did not have the particular, appropriate medical qualifications needed, to competently assess clients with specific and complex health conditions. GPs are the “standard ” “designated doctors ” now, also making decisions about mental health conditions they often have insufficient understanding of. Some handle a very high number of WINZ clients.
I hope this information will raise your awareness to these topics and issues, on which I can and will elaborate on a bit further in following ‘comments ‘.” SOURCE

In no way is this intended to demean disabled or unemployed people – it simply illustrates how very ludicrous the system has become, and satire gets that point across very effectively. People with cancer are being forced to go find work! As the ‘WINZ’ worker here tells the client in the wheelchair, ‘if your hands work you can wash dishes’.

It’s one of the most under-reported stories of the year, but it is also one of the biggest stories of the year.

If your local officials talk in terms of “smart communities”, “smart growth” or “sustainability” they are using Agenda 21 phrases. This stunning news clip from New Zealand TV station ‘Seven Sharp’ confirms the revelations shared by ‘The Money Masters’ and other such pioneering thinkers and researchers who have long sought to bring forward the truth about how money works. The is as stunning as it is simple: whenever you apply for a loan or a mortgage THE BANK YOU APPLIED TO CREATES THE MONEY OUT OF NOTHING. Banker Key is Quietly Oiling the US War Machine
Our attention was recently drawn to the announcement by Prime Minister Key’s American friends (those friends whose bank he has shares in & has us heavily indebted to) of their contemplating a compulsory draft of their women to the war machine. Most of us are aware I’m sure of Key’s allegiance to the stars and stripes, but does his allegiance have any bounds I wonder?
Stepping back a little, I’ve noticed lately a few changes happening in Aotearoa that have been overshadowed somewhat by the current housing crisis. A convenient diversion. With thousands of Kiwis homeless, 33,000 homes purchased by offshore speculators sitting empty in Auckland, and thousands of state homes being flicked off to real estate interests (and whatever happened to the sales to other social housing providers?) the government/corporation is now offering $5000 to beleaguered families to migrate to the provinces! Quite a bit of social engineering going on here by all appearances … and Key says they’re going to fix the problem with his new $1 billion initiative. Some predictable lollipops with election year approaching.
He has also recently announced however, that he is set to spend an incredible $20 billion on our defence force capability. One billion on the housing crisis and twenty times that on the military? Clearly, that is where Prime Minister Key’s priorities lie. Not at home with the homeless, rather, abroad fighting the enemies of the United States of America. That nation that has killed 20 million people in 37 nations since World War II.
As anybody who does their research knows, the well oiled US war machine is a corporate machine. (And the US of course is not the only country that profits from the arms trade. The British Royals (and here) are not averse to trading in blood money either). Major General Smedley Butler, a US authority on that topic… having served more than three decades in the military … wrote a book about the insights he gained therein. Wars are essentially bankers’ wars. Corporate wars.
We have all been well conditioned to believe these wars are for ‘King and Country’ … as our beloved forbears were, 70 odd million of whom died in the last World War … or, nowadays, wars against terrorism, the ones that started with the very dodgy 9/11 that looked extremely like a controlled demolition. These wars, as ever, are ostensibly about imposing ‘democracy’ on countries that didn’t request it, while really about siphoning off and profiting from their resources.

The war machine is an effective time-tested tool of certain wealthy families … the Rothschilds, the Rockefellers and their ilk. As Mrs Gutle Schnapper Rothschild said … “If my sons did not want war, there would be none”….and she should know her own sons I’m sure. She sounds obscenely proud of her offspring and their dubious ‘accomplishments’.
239 Years of Mostly Wars
So, if there’s one thing the US does well … and often, it’s war. See a 239 Year Timeline of America’s Involvement in military conflict, spanning from 1776 to 2011. This country that prides itself on being a peaceful, peace making nation has never in fact gone a decade with out war, to the extent no President can be considered a peace time President. The only time the US has gone for five years without war was during the Great Depression … and we know that financial depressions have always been artificially created, by the very same people who are fomenting the wars. Killing Children
As one US armchair proponent has said quite infamously … “it [war] is worth it” (that being the killing of 500,000 innocent Iraqi children, the real victims of these hideous war games). Wars to warmongers are “worth it” because they make money … lots of it. Make no mistake, this is blood money. Nobody of course highlights this point when rolling out the rationale for increased military spending.
Madeleine Albright believes that killing 500,000 Iraqi children is ‘worth it’.

That great nation has indeed taken armchair warfare to a whole new level in the form of drone warfare. In fighting that eternal war on terror, from the comfort of an armchair, one operator can wipe out whole families of suspected terrorists with the push of a button, just like they do in war games online. No trenches required.

Key has Been Quietly Initiating Changes in our National Stance about War
Now, what I’ve noticed looking beyond the housing conundrum and the age-old fomenters of war who are now publicly espousing their New World Order, is that our once clean green, GE and nuclear free paradise (not) has been undergoing some changes in her stance about war … courtesy of John Key.
Late last year NZ hosted a weapons conference (and here) in our capital, Wellington, amidst largely ignored protests. Where once we had a nuclear free stance that prevented nuclear warships from visiting our harbours, the Daily Blog reported in April this year that “In November [courtesy of John Key]… an American warship will be entering Auckland Harbour for the first time in 32 years for the 75th anniversary of the NZ Navy.” Clearly there’s no apology about that.
Now Kiwis with their ears to the ground have noticed the change in drills the military have been having in recent years. We have a mingling of the military with the public, carrying arms and playing out scenarios where the public are included. Operation Katipo in 2013 was one of those, with forces from the United States, Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Singapore and Tonga.
“The operation cements the complete restoration of New Zealand’s military alliance with the US as part of the Obama administration’s strategic “pivot” or “rebalancing” to the Indo-Pacific to encircle China, which the US views as a threat to its dominance in the region. Smaller exercises were held with the US last year, marking the first time American troops had trained in NZ since a partial rift during the 1980s over Wellington’s anti-nuclear policy.”
“Operation Southern Katipo is further evidence that New Zealand’s ruling elite is dragging the country into Washington’s preparations for war—without any democratic discussion and behind the backs of the population. Despite the exercise’s scale, it has received little coverage in the media.”
In April this year (2016) Herald reported the opening of a new top class SAS training facility in Auckland. Key said the upgrade was needed because:
“… we now live in a world where there is some risk to New Zealand. He said despite that risk being much lower than in other environments, the Government could not rule it out when the likes of Isis are using social media to target people, “even as far away as New Zealand. Mr Key said in the event that New Zealand was subject to a domestic terror threat, the SAS would be used if necessary”.
So, watch this space people. A little scratch below the surface reveals that Key is more intent on war than peace, on currying the favour of his favourite nation and by all appearances on feathering his own already well lined nest, than he is on working for New Zealand as he claimed pre election. Why else does a leader tax his own wealthy friends 2.8% and the average workers 28%?

The “Brilliance” of John Key
Leaders of other conservative Government’s look at John Key’s continued popularity with envy. New Zealand’s National Government has the same agenda as most other conservative governments and yet despite New Zealand’s richest blatantly continuing to capture a greater share of the country’s wealth and government services being increasingly reduced and privatised, the Prime Minister remains popular…
John Key’s government has managed to continue the work begun by Ruth Richardson and has obviously learned from Jenny Shipley’s mistake of not ensuring public acceptance of drastic welfare change. Ruth Richardson’s Mother of All Budgets is regarded as the most significant step in dismantling our welfare state. Drastically cutting welfare benefits was a deliberate strategy to drive down wage costs. It was Richardson’s belief that maintaining unemployment at around 5% and keeping welfare payments low, workers would then be more likely to accept lower wages. Child poverty was around 8% pre 1991 but escalated to 15% by 1992. While there was some reduction under the previous Labour Government, with the introduction of the Working for Families tax credit, child poverty is now close to 30% in 2016.

Amidst a Chronic Housing Shortage Auckland Council kicks out 14 families to make way for a carpark?
Oh the depths to which our leaders have sunk! Fourteen families evicted and told to find housing elsewhere? And for a carpark? Here we have more of the sheer insanity in the decision-making ranks of our ‘paradise’ down under. People are living in cars, garages, sleeping rough, you name it, and they are demolishing perfectly good homes? On top of that we have the government/corporation (did you know your country is a corporation?) selling off our state housing stock & contemplating paying families $5,000 to relocate out of Auckland. What are they really up to?

Fourteen properties on the edge of Monte Cecilia Park in the Auckland suburb of Royal Oak are about to be bulldozed. What for?
They’re landscaping it and putting a carpark in.
At a time when we have a housing crisis and people are living in cars!
I know! I hear you!
The rationale on the Council’s website is even more ridiculous and downright insane.
They say the houses need to go as Auckland is growing and needs more open space. Hello? Don’t we also need more houses if we’re growing?
The Council also says removing the houses will improve access and visibility into the park.
It also “makes the most of the breath-taking views into Monte Cecilia Park with its gently sloping hills, majestic specimen trees and stately homestead,” Kataraina Maki, Auckland Council’s General Manager Community and Social Policy says on the website.
So apparently Aucklanders are more in need of parks than housing. This is just lunacy. We have people living in cars down the road in Mangere.
Time to wake up Auckland Council.

Thank you to NZreport for this post. Divulging some of Key’s lesser known pursuits here, but then if you serve the people he does, I expect you don’t have a lot of choice about some of your, should we say, ‘recreational’ interests? These groups are very real and their activities highly questionable to say the very least. And no it is not conspiracy theory what they do, it is well documented by both researchers and by people who escaped their clutches. This makes the case for change much stronger and if the department concerned doesn’t act then we can take it to media for publication and to pressure change. Mainstream media will probably be either forced to print our exposes or lose their place as Mainstream Media and those who DO share it will become the new “Mainstream Media”!
Those of you who think beyond the mainstream media … or even those who don’t … you’ve probably noticed a few things are not ticking the boxes lately regarding democratic processes.
Local Government
One example would be the way District Councils appear to have minds of their own and increasingly they are failing to consult those who elect them regarding decisions that will be affecting them. Recently the Whaleoil blog featured the growing problem of local government breaking the law and points out that they get away with it because nobody is policing it. Check out the blog as there are many examples cited of things folks are encountering with their DCs.
Here is a recent example in Shannon where locals were consulted by their representing Councillor Ross Campbell on whether they wanted yet another liquor outlet licensed … overwhelmingly more were against than for (309 to 3) … yet the DC has gone right ahead and issued the liquor license anyway. So who is this council batting for? Their constituents, or the liquor industry? No prizes for guessing. Shannon has also had recent issues with discharge by Council of raw sewage into the local waterways, an ongoing issue with many DCs NZ wide. Cr Campbell was trespassed for two years by HDC for filming the discharge of raw sewage into the town’s waterways. Shutting down dissent!
The Rangitikei DC was also exposed last year with regard to their long standing non compliance in relation to pollution of its waterways with leachate. They too shut down dissent by failing to accept the recommendation of their own Community Committee!

Health and Related Services
Then we have many services (formerly ‘government’, now ‘corporate’ departments) that blatantly ignore the rules and run rough shod over people. I heard of one for instance just recently. An older woman who was admitted to A & E at a public hospital, left in a cold corridor, no warm blanket, no buzzer, calling for the toilet, left for hours in her own feces then loudly told off! The patient was too sick to respond.
Also, on the hospital subject, I heard recently of a dying patient on ‘nil by mouth’, without the family’s knowledge. On this horrific subject please google ‘Liverpool Care Pathway’ the thin end of the wedge in my opinion, to euthanasia. Now there’s huge debate as we know about that, however, since when do we administer ‘nil by mouth’ without explaining the rationale to the distressed relatives, whose loved one is crying out for water? And since when has this become the ‘norm’? Dying of thirst? I don’t recall any public discussion around this.
Weather Modification Practices
The other glaring elephant in the room on the topic of flagrancy is the practice of geoengineering … ie spraying us all daily with toxic chemicals then telling us it is only steam or condensation. Or worse, “nothing doing here please move along you ‘conspiracy theorists'”.
There will be many more issues and other departments that spring to mind that need policing.
Reporting and Taking Action
When these various events happen we’re often left standing, mouth open, grasping for who to tell, or, we’re so deep in grief we’re unable to act. And from my experience, often nobody knows just who to tell anyway. Many have tried for instance in the geoengineering domain to approach the various authorities charged with protecting us from unhealthy toxic environments only to be told there’s nothing doing. Denial, yet all the while scientific testing is revealing high levels of toxic chemicals in water and soils. These authorities need to be held to account.
So here is a venue for you to report these various incidents. It’s easy to do, simply go to the site (links below) and fill in the appropriate form online (more forms to come).
The reports will be collated to reveal the extent of the respective complaints, all documented in reports and kept for evidence when confronting the department concerned, and/or for timely publishing on this and other websites, and on social media. Since our so called mainstream media is displaying a growing reluctance to fully air the truth, we can become a force to be reckoned with. This is people power!
