A repost of this news item from last year. A good reminder as the glyphosate issue rumbles on with more countries and individual shops banning it. How long will it be before NZ takes it more seriously. They continue to spray it on our pastures and our public spaces ignoring the reliable research that tells it it’s a carcinogen and is linked to many many more health problems.
Here is some shocking news on baby food and formula. I’m unsure if this brand is sold in NZ however readers from the US will recognize it. A quick search tells me it is sought after by parents outside of the US. A fairly recent report told us NZ baby foods contain 800x more pesticides than those in Europe. Good reason to do some online research before buying. I emphasize online because it tends nowadays to be not 100% reliable to simply ask the companies. Remember the Ribena fiasco? Two fourteen year old High school students discovered in a classroom experiment, the manufacturers, GlaxoSmithKlein had been lying about the Vitamin C content. If you’ve read the information on my website with regard to how corporations operate (see the movie The Corporation on the Corporations page) you will know they are frequently caught lying. Their bottom line is profits not people…
While browsing recently online for a collagen supplement … particularly a non marine one given the state of Fukushima we’re not told about by MSM (mainstream media). I’m not being alarmist here, it’s just that I would prefer to err on the side of caution these days given corporations have been lying to us for quite a few decades now. Folks with testing devices have been finding their food to be radioactive. Fukushima spews vast quantities of radioactive water into the Pacific ocean daily and has been since 2011 or thereabouts, with the Japanese people gagged from talking about it in relation to their health. Corporate lying is also evidenced by the multitude of fines they are paying these days for their misdemeanors (‘peanut’ fines they pay out of their petty cash pretty much). So, no, this is why I don’t trust their spin.
I located one product anyway that looked pretty good (I’d typed in the search box, ‘natural, organic ingredients’). The brand hailed ‘acclaimed actress Nicole Kidman’ as its global ambassador. Sounded impressive.
“…an Australian owned & operated business devoted to producing quality health supplements by using the best-sourced natural ingredients, latest scientific research and partnering with dedicated professionals in the healthcare industry.” The brand is Swisse.
The product featured “No added: Gluten, lactose, egg, yeast, salt, artificial colours and artificial flavours…” then just above that a short unassuming statement … “Contains sodium benzoate.”
Turns out sodium benzoate’s not so unassuming after all. I found an article from 2009 at healthwyze.org that tells all. Not pretty.
Here is a little quote to spark your interest:
Researchers at Southampton University noted that tests have shown sodium benzoate to lower the I.Q. by up to five points in children. Britain’s Food Standards Agency has even warned parents that sodium benzoate is a primary cause of hyperactivity in children, along with artificial colorings. However, in the U.S., there has been nothing but silence and the destruction of evidence.
“Sodium benzoate is the most effective preservative currently authorized.”
— Richard Laming, British Soft Drinks Association
Some key information on sodium benzoate:
it is produced by mixing benzoic acid with sodium hydroxide
it is a common preservative in processed foods and soft drinks
it is considerably more toxic than either processed sugar or high fructose corn syrup
It is a bona fide poison
benzene is the main ingredient of various paint stripper products, rubber cements, and spot removers, due it its highly destructive and solvent qualities
Countries throughout Europe have been pressuring the food industry to voluntarily remove sodium benzoate from products
Many have called for an absolute ban on this toxic preservative due to concerns about children’s developmental safety
U.S. Government and media have remained disturbingly silent on this additive
there have been no studies in the U.S. about the chemical’s effects upon children
Only the synthetic version has toxic effects
it is especially dangerous because it is able to destroy parts of the DNA
the amount of benzene in soft drinks increases with shelf life
it is one of the most dangerous preservatives available, but it is the cheapest (follow the money trail)
…there is more … read the article below to see just how much. This is a pertinent reminder to buy unprocessed food that’s not been stripped of all goodness and pumped full of chemicals to maintain its shelf life. Buy organic or grow your own. An excellent expose of the food additive insanity is ‘The Idiot Cycle’ documentary, viewable on Vimeo. It can also be found in one of our posts at this link.
“One of the dirty secrets of the soft drink and processed food industries is sodium benzoate. It is a benzene compound that is produced by mixing benzoic acid with sodium hydroxide. It is a common preservative in processed foods and soft drinks. It has been associated with a vast array of health problems, including all of our major epidemics. Sodium benzoate is considerably more toxic than either processed sugar or high fructose corn syrup, yet it gets very little media coverage. It is a bona fide poison. Outside of our foods, benzene is the main ingredient of Liquid Wrench, various paint stripper products, rubber cements, and spot removers, due it its highly destructive and solvent qualities. It was discontinued in rubber manufacture in the U.S. because it caused a large percentage of workers to get leukemia. …” Read more:http://healthwyze.org/reports/204-are-you-getting-enough-sodium-benzoate-in-your-diet.html

More information on Fukushima … the disaster that contrary to mainstream media reports never went away. It continually gets worse… (article, with thanks, from healthandhearth.org)
2016 is here. And with a vengeance.
“Vengeance is mine” allegedly sayeth the lord.
You could say the same thing about Mother Nature.
Because when any creature defies the Laws of Nature, the grace and good-will of Mother Nature issues a courtesy-warning, and our insticts and intellect can pick it up loud and clear: it’s called “danger.”
And when that danger is recognized, all manner of evasive or problem-solving tactics and strategies can be devised and deployed.
But when danger is not recognized, and warnings ignored, the outcome is “written” so to speak, almost “predestined” by God and/or Nature itself:
Death.
Mother Natures final notice of terminal error.

“If you drink alcoholic beverages on occasion, wine could arguably be described as one of the “healthier” options. Red wine, in particular, is rich in antioxidants called polyphenols, including resveratrol.
Unfortunately, researchers have uncovered a problem in wine that has recently plagued other foods like apple juice and rice – high, potentially dangerous, levels of arsenic.
Concerning Levels of Arsenic Detected in Popular Wines
A class-action lawsuit filed in California states that wine drinkers have become “unwitting ‘guinea pigs’ of arsenic exposure,”2 after tests showed levels up to four and five times the maximum amount the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) allows for drinking water.3“

Food was something up until the 1940s folk just grew out in the back yard … supermarkets were a new invention. Still, many gardeners kept going well into the 1970s, and growing your own food is currently making a huge come back. I recall as a child, unlike in today’s supermarkets, the shop owners went out back and got all the items on your list and put them in a brown cardboard box or paper bags. We also collected raw milk in a billy from the local Dairy and drank it, and believe it or not one of us died from doing that. Neither did I ever hear one report of food poisoning from raw milk. Today our milk is so heated and treated and added to, much of the nutrients have disappeared, and sadly, some countries have banned raw altogether. Check out the health benefits of raw milk: http://www.raw-milk-facts.com/raw_milk_health_benefits.htmlhttp://www.drdeborahmd.com/health-benefits-raw-milk
I recall as a child, every morning around 5 am awakening to the sound of my father chipping away the weeds in his vegetable garden just outside my window, before breakfast and the working day. He grew everything we ate. And he didn’t spray our vegetables with anything either. He also saved the seed from one plant that he left for that purpose and of course there was an abundance for next season and the neighbours. Nature supplies abundantly although Monsanto would have us believe that GE crops can do better.
Cauli, straight from the garden
(They recently tried suing the Guatemalan people for saving their seed, something they’ve done for hundreds of years). Corporations back in the day had not gotten blatantly greedy enough yet to patent seeds. They have now of course and are busy gobbling up all the companies to tighten their hold on humanity. Then there’s the Food Bill that aims to stop all this sharing and caring by passing our veg over the back fence. What a blasphemy to humanity this is. (A note on the Guatemalan fiasco, this is due to a trade agreement a … think TPPA … the signs are on the wall).
“Unlike the synthetic antibiotics, the advantage of this medicine is that it is 100% safe and doesn’t have side effects on the digestive track.
the first ingredient which contains active material with more than 150 therapeutic Tcharacteristics is turmeric, including anti-oxidant,anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory.
Turmeric and honey are a great combination which will increase the number of good bacteria in the bowels and it will improve digestion.
Needed ingredients:
1 spoon of turmeric powder
100g homemade honey
Mix all of the ingredients together and transfer them in a glass jar.
Monsanto faces many lawsuits these days as folks awaken to the real hazards with the products they peddle. Here they are being challenged to disprove the research …. “Livingston High School graduate Dr. V.A. Shiva Ayyadurai … is attempting to alert the public to the hazards of unregulated GMOs through a drastic challenge: if Monsanto can disprove his research, which shows that GMO soy contains high levels of formaldehyde and a depletion of glutathione, Ayyadurai will sign over his $10 million building in Cambridge, Massachusetts … ”
“Ayyadurai, an MIT graduate who holds the first U.S. patent for email, has exposed a lack of acceptable testing standards for Monsanto’s GMOs through research published in the peer-reviewed journal Agricultural Sciences…”
(Collective-Evolution) “Studies that link Genetically Modified (GM) food to multiple human health ailments are not the only thing that has millions of people questioning the production of GM food. There is fact that previously classified secret government documents exist which show how the Bush administration developed ways to retaliate against countries that were refusing to use GM seeds, for example. If information about our food needs to be concealed from the public domain, then something has gone seriously wrong with the food industry. It’s great to have an organization like WikiLeaks shed some light into the world that’s been hidden from us for so many years…”
Targeting Certain Countries
“The cables reveal that the State Department was lobbying all over the world for Monsanto and other major biotech corporations. They reveal that American diplomats requested funding to send lobbyists for the biotech industry to meet with politicians and agricultural officials in “target countries.” These included countries in Africa, Latin America, and Europe…”
“This is just one example that clearly shows how giant corporations pretty much dictate government policy. These food corporations are responsible for forcing independent agriculturists to go out of business. They control the world’s seed supply, forcing farmers to become dependent on their seed. Monsanto and corporations like it have created patented GMO seeds and are preventing farmers from seed saving and sharing, resulting in a dependence on their genetically modified product…”
See our Corporations page for more on how corporations operate. Watch ‘The Corporation’, on that page, for the finer detail of their workings. You’ll be surprized at the far reach of their persuasion & the lengths they go to to maintain control. This is why we need to oppose the TPPA (protest coming up on 14th November). Corporations are about profits and they will guard those to the death almost. They use well paid lawyers in their large armoury of tactics. GMOs are being resisted world wide now that more of the truth is out. Research GMOs for yourself if you’re not up to speed with them. Much of our food, particularly soy and corn is already GM, and it isn’t labeled. It has never been proven safe and there is much data now to cause you to want to refrain.
Our supposedly ‘clean green’ country (and don’t get me wrong, I love my country) is sold to the world as being GE/GMO free. I’ve been repeating this often on here that we are not. (Read a quote from the Green Party on GE animal feed). Back in 2000 Nicky Hager wrote in his book ‘Seeds of Distrust’ that GE Corn was grown here in several different locations, without the public’s knowledge and obviously without their consent. Once uncovered, the PM at the time,
PM Helen Clarke initially ordered the GE corn be pulled up … then did an about turn (‘Seeds of Distrust’ by Nicky Hager)
Helen Clarke ordered the crops be pulled up and disposed of, however after some discussion and clearly corporate persuasion, the crops were left in and went to full term and harvest. How many other organic or otherwise crops were contaminated? Who knows given the industry is inclined to secrecy and an aversion to labeling of anything containing their poisonous products? As a result of all this the bar of acceptance levels was raised a little higher, widening the previously thin end of the wedge so to speak. It’s happening by increments folks. So here now we are being told of a 15 year excursion into biological experiments on genetically modified/engineered (whatever you like to call tinkering with nature) cows … and note, with ‘disastrous results’.
EnvirowatchRangitikei
Read the article here, from Sustainable Pulse:
NZ Cows are fed GE stock feed
“GE Free NZ ‘s report on “GE Animals in New Zealand: the first fifteen years, 2000 – 2015”, documents the world’s first field trials of genetically modified cows, bred to express one of six transgenic protein traits in milk for use as bio-pharmaceutical products. Agresearch has conducted the research at their Ruakura facility in Hamilton.
Using AgResearch’s own records, the report catalogues a sad and profoundly disturbing story that has characterised the genetic engineering (GE) trials.
The surrogate and transgenic cows suffer from chronic illness, reproductive losses, sudden unexplained deaths, and severe deformities.
In the course of fifteen years of experimentation, many thousands of transgenic embryos, predominately developed offshore in private partnership laboratories, have been used…”
“Omission and selective reporting of important experimental data to the media has enabled AgResearch to avoid scrutiny into the tragic results of using animals as bioreactors.”
On ‘The Dangers of Willful Blindness’ …. “Gayla Benefield was just doing her job — until she uncovered an awful secret about her hometown that meant its mortality rate was 80 times higher than anywhere else in the U.S.
But when she tried to tell people about it, she learned an even more shocking truth: People didn’t want to know. In a talk that’s part history lesson, part call-to-action, Margaret Heffernan demonstrates the danger of “willful blindness” and praises ordinary people like Benefield who are willing to speak up. Here’s an illustration of what one person’s research into hidden environmental hazards can turn up. You would think people would be pleased to be warned however not so. In this instance nobody wanted to hear why their town’s death rate was 80 times higher than anywhere else in the US. I encounter similar disbelief when I relate the hidden dangers of Smart Meters and other RF radiation risks, and chemicals in our food, water and air. Too often people only begin to take this all seriously when bad health strikes. We need to remember again, corporations are about profits for their shareholders and these come first. Any environmental risks are only disclosed (if at all) in very fine print which few read. Corporations are not devoted to the good health of their buying customers … we the people need to fulfill that mandate. Be warned.
Up until the 1950s folks grew their own food as a matter of course. It was what you did. Supermarkets kind of changed that but folks are catching on to the fact that processed foods are frequently devoid of nutrients and our fresh produce is sprayed liberally with toxic chemicals bringing with them a myriad of health risks. The financial squeeze is also a motivating factor and people are getting their fingers in the soil and producing their own food for cheap.
Here are some examples of that in the North Island, one is in the far North, and another in Hawkes Bay, both beautiful warm regions for growing things. A third I noticed recently on Facebook in Palmerston North, closer to home, illustrating the wonderful value of communities getting together and growing food… and sharing. That’s how our forbears used to do it.
North Hokianga Food Co-op aiming for food security
“Brother and sister Joe Thompson and Jackie Thompson are encouraging people to grow their own food and be self-sufficient.” (Photo courtesy of Stuff.co.nz)
“North Hokianga residents are on the path to making their food pantries and larders entirely self-sufficient.
The North Hokianga Co-op aims to get residents growing their own produce and wants to build a boutique abattoir to process local meat.
Co-op organiser Jackie Thompson says the area wants to make the most of their natural resources and change attitudes towards food and where it comes from.
The Co-op held a “Kai Rangatira” day on October 10 to introduce the community to gardening methods and information. More than100 people turned out to learn about grafting, worm farms, traditional Maori medicine, honey and housing projects.
“Food comes from the supermarket, from over the counter in a package. We’re eating too much sugar and too much processed food. That is basically seen as normal….”
Posted on Facebook comments explain that the garden is at “Waipatu Marae just before Whakatu in Hastings. It is a community garden that any one can get produce from. Payment is in form of a koha. Anyone is also welcome to go and help in the garden..”
Finally the Crewe Community Garden in Palmerston North have as their vision: “… to create a vibrant community hub where neighbours are collectively involved in various sustainable living initiatives that provide healthy food, encourage social connections, and reduce family food budgets. A community garden achieves many of the goals that the group have.”
They also have a blog spot with the same name here
(Palmerston North (aka Palmy) is in the lower / central North Island.)
Here is an article that traces many allergic issues back to glyphosate that is sprayed on wheat crops before harvest. A regular practice apparently that kills the plant and allows an earlier harvest. Great idea if you don’t mind ingesting a herbicide that’s been linked with many diseases including birth defects and cancer.
According to the US Department of Agriculture, as of 2012, 99% of durum wheat, 97% of spring wheat, and 61% of winter wheat has been treated with herbicides. This is an increase from 88% for durum wheat, 91% for spring wheat and 47% for winter wheat since 1998.

This is alarming. Those who buy organic and/or grow their own food to avoid glyphosate are now encountering this. It demonstrates how widespread are the reaches of this poison called glyphosate. EnvirowatchRangitikei
“Think you can avoid glyphosate by buying organic? Think again. A new investigation by Tropical Traditions reveals that many products in the organic grain market in the U.S. contain glyphosate residue at levels almost the same as conventional grains.
Brian Shilhavy Health Impact News Editor
With over 80% of the U.S. food supply now reportedly contaminated with the herbicide glyphosate, many people are turning to USDA certified organic products to avoid this toxic chemical……”
Glyphosate is in 80% of our food supply in the U.S., and some scientists believe it may well be the most toxic chemical ever approved for commercial use. Glyphosate is now linked to kidney disease, antibiotic resistant bacteria, inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, depression, ADHD, autism, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, multiple sclerosis, cancer, cachexia, infertility, and developmental malformations. It destroys the microbiome of humans and plants, which is the root cause of many modern diseases.
