Milford Sound is still experiencing aftershocks since the initial 5.5 and then 5.6 magnitude earthquake on 2.09.2026 at 5 kms shallow. Yesterday saw a rerun 4,6 and the same depth, 5kms.
The following screenshot shows the last 40 quakes at a depth of 5kms in NZ, most of which are in the South Islands Milford area. This linked map is interactive so the data will change when you visit it.

Wellington also experienced a shallow earthquake. The 4.9 at 26km depth really shook up both the north and the south Islands. The map below shows where the quake was felt. Some reports were felt in Auckland and some in Christchurch.

The quakes are being reported as moderate. I question this given there is quiet a distance between Auckland and Christchurch and these quakes were felt in those areas.
Needless to say, NZ is a shaking so if you can’t stand upright have been feeling fatigued, perhaps headaches, perhps you are sensitive to these quake frequencies.
