In relation to the previous post on this subject, a reader asked us to submit a couple of OIAs about: a) The number of firearms reported stolen by licensed guns owners each year and b) the numbers of people convicted of murder using a firearm but who were non-licensed gun owners. We’ll still ask those questions, but these answers from two further responses on the Police website give some idea about them:
Thus over 90% of offenses involving firearms are by persons not holding a gun license, which under NZ law you are required to have.
