During 1800s NZ if you declined to sell your land, chances are high you’d be driven off of it anyway. This happened to the Gisborne people. Not only were they driven off their lands, they were shipped out of sight to the Chatham Islands while their lands were divvied up. Land grabbing at its ‘finest’ … the NZ government for you … and it hasn’t stopped… EWNZ
