A US Public Health Physician Speaks on Smart Meters

Whilst ignorance prevails on the dangers of Smart Meters (aka Advanced Meters) to our health, read what Public Health Physician David Carpenter has to say about them. An expert on magnetic fields, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience that qualifies him to make a sound judgement on safety issues and Smart Meters.

These meters are not compulsory although the public here in NZ (and elsewhere) are being given the impression that they are. Please educate yourself before consenting to the installation of one of these devices on or in your home. David Carpenter: “I’m David Carpenter, I’m a Public Health Physician, I graduated from Harvard Medical School, and I worked for the New York State Dept of Health for 18 years, during that period of time I was responsible for administering a program in electromagnetic fields, I subsequently became the Dean of the School of Public Health and presently I’m a faculty member in the School of Public Health and the Director of the Institute of Health in the Environment of the University of Albany.

Interviewer: Thank you and Central Main Power says there is no reason to be concerned about smart meters, there are no health effects and everyone who is worried about the health effects of RF from smart meters or from the mesh network really have nothing to be concerned about and what do you say to that?

David Carpenter: I’d say that’s absolutely false. Ah, the question to ask them is ‘What is the evidence that smart meters are safe and have no adverse health effects?’ And the answer to that question is that there is no such evidence and in fact while no one has actually done human health studies in relation to people living in homes with smart meters we have evidence from a whole variety of other sources of RF exposure that demonstrates convincingly and consistently that exposure to RF radiation at elevated levels for long periods of time increases the risk of cancer, increases the damage to the nervous system, causes electrosensitivity, has adverse reproductive effects, and a variety of other effects on different organ systems, so there is no reason for, no justification for that statement that smart meters have no adverse health effects. Well it should be up to each individual to identify whether or not they want to be continuously exposed 24/7 to elevated levels of RF radiation. The Smart Meter is for the benefit of the utility, it saves them money because they don’t then have to have people going out reading meters and it’s at the expense of the consumer who has to live in the house that has the constant exposure. So an informed person should demand that they be allowed to keep their analogue meter.”

Study Shows Electromagnetic fields from mobile phones accelerate mercury release from dental fillings

It’s the same old story though … because the threat is invisible we think it’s not happening. Educate yourself and listen to Prof Trower’s advice. Another excellent watch on the topic is Take Back Your Power. You will learn there of one woman’s shocking discovery after the terrible loss of her adult son to brain cancer. He had lived in a University hostel placed right near a cell phone mast, and there had in fact been multiple similar deaths to cancer by young people living previously in the same room as her son. The fact that Lloyd’s will not insure you the user against the harmful effects of these devices speaks volumes. We already had the evidence but as I continually reiterate here, industry does not want you to know … that knowledge would clearly dissuade you from using their devices. The recent post here on the unfortunate UK man enduring the forced installation of a smart meter in his home (he’s now opted for no  power in preference) is disconcerting to say the least. Where has our right of choice as free citizens gone? Are we not purchasing power? Do we have no choice about how this is delivered?

If you’re new to the smart meter issue please educate yourself. Arm yourself with the correct information. Unfortunately you will not get this from your powerco. Listen to the professionals, watch the documentaries particularly ‘Take Back Your Power’. Then make informed decisions about how to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Cancer Expert Warns: Extremely Important to Adopt Precaution against RF Exposure

“It is important to recognize that there are no safe levels of exposure to human carcinogens. Although risk increases with increasing intensity of exposure, and for many carcinogens, such as tobacco smoke, even more with increasing duration of exposure, the only way to avoid the carcinogenic risk is to avoid exposure altogether…”

We can lessen our risk of contracting cancer by avoiding unnecessary exposure to environmental carcinogens. Currently there are multiple such examples for instance, cell phones, the masts, wi-fi, smart meters, cigarette smoke, food additives, additives to care products … the list goes on. NZ’s current cancer statistics are one in three.

Some Thoughts on Smart Meters and the Latest Updates from NZ’s StopSmartMeters Site

I had a discussion recently with an electrician who has seen the vast changes in our country in the past two decades around how our country is managed, how our councils operate and how our power is delivered to us. The big sell-offs and the descent of our once sovereign nation into the abyss of phenomenal debt. He recalled the former wealth of both the local council and the local power company. You can read about the background to these changes in NZ from the 1980s onwards, all initiated by Rogernomics and the Big Experiment,  on the About, Money Trail and Corporation pages… you Kiwis were the guinea pigs to these great ‘economic innovations’ which clearly didn’t work … evidenced by the wider gap between rich and poor and the crippling debt we are in. We were conned. We used to have full employment and no debt. Once upon a time. And we owned our country. It is now owned by all in sundry, from all over the planet.

I asked the electrician his thoughts on Smart Meters. He had no fears whatsoever about them and told me what most call centers will tell you, they are no more harmful than cell phones. I conveyed to him that I had my concerns having watched the doco, Take Back Your Power. I asked him did anybody measure the radiation? … he replied ‘no’. I asked if he would mind watching the doco and giving me his feedback, being a local electrician. No he wasn’t interested at all to watch it.

This is what concerns me … few want to examine the evidence. However, that aside, the uppermost issue here for me is, our choice is being taken away. Correction, has been taken away. Once installed the companies will no longer remove a Smart Meter, even if they failed to secure your consent in the first place to install it. Yes they do just install them when you’re not home if you happen to have a meter on the outside of your house. Be aware if you are home, you have every right to non-consent of installation because they are NOT compulsory. Better still, tape a notice to your meter advising of your non-consent, and notify your power company in writing of the same. Once installed however, if you want the chip removed to prevent the emissions of radiation from remote reading (if it is removable) you pay … anything from $130 and upwards.

Gradually, by little increments, we have been coerced into receiving into our homes, a device that has many question marks over it that are backed by both professional medical opinion and independent scientific research that we would be at our peril to ignore. Here are some dots for you to join. Our cancer rate is now one in three. Why is the medical profession still researching for cures beyond chemo whilst ignoring the compelling research on environmental causes? Why also are they ignoring the natural cures that people are finding out for themselves?

If folks prefer to neither research this for themselves, nor look at the evidence that is available, then be it on their own heads, however, for those of us who do do the research and are aware of the hidden dangers of these devices, we surely must be given the choice to decline? Currently we do have that choice but, as many are aware, we have to insist on that option as we are not being told of it. I can only conclude here … as always … educate yourselves. We live in a different era now. Truth has taken on a new meaning; we need to find out the facts for ourselves. Transcript of Dr. Blank’s presentation: “I’m here with disturbing news about our favorite gadgets: cell phones, tablets, wi-fi, etc.
Putting it bluntly, they are damaging the living cells in our bodies and killing many of us prematurely.

I’m Dr. Martin Blank, from the Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics at Columbia University.

It is distressing for me, and more than 160 colleagues, who today are petitioning the United Nations requesting that they address this problem.

We are scientists and engineers, and I am here to tell you – we have created something that is harming us, and it is getting out of control!iphone-545772__180

Before Edison’s lightbulb, there was very little electromagnetic radiation in our environment.
The levels today are very many times higher than natural background levels and are growing rapidly because of all the new devices that emit this radiation.

An example that a lot of us have in our pockets right now is the cell phone. One study shows that as cell phone usage has spread widely, the incidence of fatal brain cancer in younger people has more than tripled.

We are putting cellular antennas on residential buildings, and on top of hospitals, where people are trying to get well.

123Wireless utility meters, and cell towers, are blanketing our neighborhoods with radiation.

It’s particularly frightening that radiation from our telecommunication and powerline technology is damaging the DNA in our cells. It is clear to many biologists that this can account for the rising cancer rates.

Future generations – OUR CHILDREN – ARE AT RISK.

These biologists and scientists are not being heard on the committees that set safety standards. The BIOLOGICAL facts are being ignored, and as a result, the safety limits are much too high. THEY ARE NOT PROTECTIVE!

More protection will probably result from full disclosure of possible conflicts of interest between regulators and industry.

International exposure guidelines for electromagnetic fields must be strengthened to reflect the reality of their impact on our bodies, and in particular, on our DNA.

Although we are still in the midst of a great technological transformation, the time to deal with the harmful biological and health effects is long overdue.

We are really all part of a large biological experiment, without our informed consent.

To protect our children, ourselves, and our ecosystem, we must reduce exposure by establishing more protective guidelines.

And so, today, scientists from around the world are submitting an Appeal to the United Nations, its member states and the World Health Organization, to provide leadership in dealing with this emerging public health crisis.”

French law bans Wi-Fi in daycares, restricts wireless infrastructure

France has featured historically in its awareness and acknowledgement of the environmental and health dangers of herbicides with their highest court ruling that the Monsanto corporation had deceived the public with its ‘safe’ advertising of their own product, Roundup. Here they have moved again to protect the public, particularly vulnerable pre-schoolers, from wifi. The protection of our young ones is particularly important as their brains are still developing. They are being exposed to radiation from wifi in their classrooms for 5+ hours per day and daycare, often longer. Two years in the works, a new law governing public exposure to electromagnetic fields generated by wireless technology (including base stations, mobile phones, tablets, and WiFi) was adopted by the Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) on Thursday, January 29. It was passed by a majority vote, while the UDI Party abstained – except Bertrand Pancher (Meuse), who voted in favor. The UMP voted against it, seeing it as an barrier to the development of digital industries.

This new law – the first in France to establish a precautionary approach addressing the potential health risks of radio frequencies – is the result of a real obstacle course, during which its initial ambitions were seriously downgraded. The Bill, filed in January 2013 by the MNA for Val-de-Marne Laurence Abeille (Europe Ecologie-Greens) had been referred to committee by the Socialists, before returning to the National Assembly in January 2014, under a watered-down form, and then to be adopted in first reading by the Senate in June 2014.
