A court in New Mexico has ordered social media giant Meta to pay $US567 million to address harms to young people caused by its platforms. In a landmark ruling, the judge likened the company’s Instagram and Facebook social media platforms to factories and described the psychological harm children experience from using them as a form of pollution.
