Shortly after 11pm on Wednesday night, the 19th of February, a C130 flew slowly over Whangarei at low altitude in a south-westerly direction before returning to base in Auckland.   Thank-you to Jacqui for the screenshots from Flightradar24.com, which are posted below.

A year to the day ago, the Northern Advocate reported that a C130 flew at low altitude over Dargaville, which is to the west of Whangarei, at 1.30pm on February the 19th, 2019 for low-level flying training purposes.

C130s have been used to fight the bush fires in Australia this year.

Many users of the website may recall seeing the Air Force C17 Globemaster over Whangarei on April the 9th, 2019 spraying an aerosol trail over the area,  exposing that the military get involved with domestic aerosol operations here.  However, it is not known if the C130 aircraft was emitting aerosol trails on Feb 19th, 2020.

  1. Been a huge amount of activity at the Antarctic US program base at Harewood. A few weeks back a colossal “Beluga” transport was parked up, nosecone open. I’m informed the payload was wind turbine blades. Upgrades for power supply at The Ice. C17s have been daily visitors. Today, there is one parked and another just flew in, and there are two US C130-Ts and a Boeing 757 personnel transport also.
Last week a bright blue aircraft I couldn’t identify (possibly China).
Elites fleeing China have been coming in on direct flights to NZ via the Elite private jet Terminal, usually stopping at Auckland first.
I suspect the Herc seen at Whangerei was part of the current activity especially with the 130-T’s arriving en-masse.

        1. I’m not familiar with “flight tracker.” Would like to know more since this seems to be a fairly regular occurrence. Living out in the wops where houses per cubic kilometer is a proper reference, when the government plays soldier in our neck of the woods, it’s hard to miss.

        2. I need to re-familiarize myself. Used to watch way more & did look them up. Will come back with a link, may not be today. Martin commented on this link I recall about recent activity with the C130s … stuff going on he’s aware of. (From where I’m typing can’t see the whole page). Anyway on the tracker you can identify the fly overs … think applies to military also not sure.
