Glaciers Appear to be Growing, not Melting in Recent Years

May 30, 2019. St. Mary, Montana. Officials at Glacier National Park (GNP) have begun quietly removing and altering signs and government literature which told visitors that the Park’s glaciers were all expected to disappear by either 2020 or 2030.
In recent years the National Park Service prominently featured brochures, signs and films which boldly proclaimed that all glaciers at GNP were melting away rapidly. But now officials at GNP seem to be scrambling to hide or replace their previous hysterical claims while avoiding any notice to the public that the claims were inaccurate. Teams from Lysander Spooner University visiting the Park each September have noted that GNP’s most famous glaciers such as the Grinnell Glacier and the Jackson Glacier appear to have been…

  1. Interesting article based on short term trends from Lysander Spooner University. The long term information is here: https://www.usgs.gov/data-tools/area-named-glaciers-glacier-national-park-gnp-and-flathead-national-forest-fnf-including I have some concern over articles that source “whatsupwiththat” and some of the phrases used are ambiguous at best: “Teams from Lysander Spooner University visiting the Park each September have noted that GNP’s most famous glaciers such as the Grinnell Glacier and the Jackson Glacier appear to have been growing—not shrinking—since about 2010. (The Jackson Glacier—easily seen from the Going-To-The-Sun Highway—may have grown as much as 25% or more over the past decade.) The data from USGS shows the Jackson glacier lost 46,000 sq m in the decade to 2015 and has lost 75% of its area since 1850. If it truely had grown by 25% would this not have been momentous news for the scientific community? WUWT would have us believe such information has been “supressed”. But let’s see some evidence of the claims suggested. Could the reason the signage is being changed have anything to do with the US administration believing climate change is a Chinese hoax?

      1. Coleman: ‘absolute firm conclusion that there is no global warming’. “you can go back into the ‘70s and come up to today, and there’s almost no warming. There’s less than one degree warming since 1978, and absolutely no warming since 1998.” So does he believe there was no global warming or less than 1 degree. But less than 1 C deg of warming is very significant when you consider we are warming a whole planet. And the 1998 to early 2000’s “pause” has been shown to be simply a matter of picking specific dates. let’s go back further than the 70’s to see then changes – same concept as the glaciers story above – look at a short period of time and you can pull out the changes you want. I will try to post an essay I wrote for a physical geography paper and send you a link. I think your heart is in the right place but you are looking too deep for conspiracies. All the best.

        1. “My heart in the right place?” “Looking for conspiracies?” Ah no, just looking beyond the lies that you’ve clearly fallen for…. And all the best to you too.
