Since reading the information recently fed to us by the pediatrics journal persuading mothers that breast feeding is not natural, it seems pertinent now, especially as a member of the older generation, to affirm parents that breast feeding is indeed natural. And please don’t stop. A thorough read of the original article makes it very clear that the concern by the powers that be are related to the refusal of vaccines and genetically modified food. Among other things. If you’ve researched these two items you’ll also know that neither are they natural.

A quick glance at our little known histories tell us that the medical profession was heisted in the early part of last century following the Flexner report – heisted for profit. A time when the natural treatments were shut down in favour of unnatural chemicals to ‘cure’ our bodies – instead of the natural strengthening and maintenance of our own immune systems, something that begins at the breast.

Breastfeeding rates continue to rise in the US. In 2011, the most recent year for which data is available, 79 percent of newborn infants started breastfeeding.1This is wonderful news, as breastfeeding offers life-long health benefits, not just for the child, but for the mother as well.

Many have been misled by infant-formula maketing

Many women do not have access to the truth about breastfeeding and have been misled by infant-formula marketing to believe they must spend thousands of dollars a year to provide the best nutrition for their babies.

In reality (and barring any extreme exceptions such as certain transmittable diseases or drug use), breast milk is the best food for babies, period.

As reported by the World Health Organization (WHO), breastfeeding is the “normal way” of providing infants with the nutrients they need to grow and develop. They continue:

“Virtually all mothers can breastfeed, provided they have accurate information, and the support of their family, the health care system and society at large. Colostrum, the yellowish, sticky breast milk produced at the end of pregnancy, is recommended by WHO as the perfect food for the newborn, and feeding should be initiated within the first hour after birth.

Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended up to 6 months of age, with continued breastfeeding along with appropriate complementary foods up to two years of age or beyond.”

Breastfed Babies Grow into More Successful Adults

Proper nutrition in infancy has lasting effects on health and well-being. A study of nearly 6,000 babies followed from birth until they turned 30 years old found that those who were breastfed had increased intelligence, longer schooling, and higher earning as adults.2

According toMedical Xpress, the average American consumes nearly 20 teaspoons, or about 78 grams, of sugar daily, which is far more than the maximum level recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA).

One of the worst things you can do to your body is feed it sugar — not necessarily natural sugar like the kind found in fruit, but refined sugar. A team of scientists from the University of California in San Francisco (UCSF) recently pored through more than 8,000 scientific papers on how sugar affects the body and came to the conclusion that it not only makes people fat but also makes them sick.

The project, which has been dubbed SugarScience, exposes sugar as a primary culprit in the formation of metabolic disease, which can lead to conditions like heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Lead author Laura Schmidt, a UCSF School of Medicine professor, says her team’s findings are comprehensible — sugar is highly toxic to the body and vital organs, including the liver.

According to their investigation, nearly three-quarters of all packaged and processed foods contain added sugar. This sugar is typically listed under 61 different names, including things like high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), dextrose, evaporated cane juice and sucrose. It is often difficult to identify added sugar because of this, and current regulatory requirements don’t mandate that suggested daily values of both natural and added sugar be identified.  Read more 

So how is our intake of sugar in NZ?

Sucrose (table sugar) was the major contributor, with males eating 55g (14 teaspoons) and females 42g (10.5 teaspoons). Almost one-quarter of the sucrose came from sugar and sweets, followed by non-alcoholic beverages and fruit.

Our kids fare even worse. The 2002 National Children’s Nutrition Survey found that the average daily intake for sucrose for boys was 67g (17 teaspoons) and for girls 61g (15 teaspoons). Over one-quarter of the sucrose came from beverages and one-fifth from sugar and sweets.”

So … best kick your sugar habit if you have one!

Find a suitable natural sweetener to replace sugar, and whatever you do don’t head for the chemical sweeteners like aspartame which will do you even more harm than what you’re replacing! Cut it down gradually until you’re free. Remember too it’s addictive so it can take a while depending on your endurance abilities. However you do it it’s going to improve your health. On that the evidence is pretty clear.

Key wants to turn New Zealand into a haven for the 1%

When our PM was elected, well pre election particularly, he was the smiling new guy on the block who took the young Maori girl to Waitangi that year – a great publicity stunt, currying favour with Maori.  I’ve read recently the young woman who accompanied him to Waitangi now sees clearly through his motive. With regrets perhaps? We’ve seen now how much he really respects indigenous interests – they don’t go down to well in the corporate world & Key is a banker. Then we’ve all heard the rumour put out that he donates some/all (?) of his PM salary away because of his wealth from his banking career – turns out that is likely myth not fact as no concrete proof has been forthcoming yet. People have asked. Were it factual he could give it to the school lunch cause, and he’s made it clear that’s not going to happen. Anyway there were many clearly sucked in by his smiling clean image who are now severely disillusioned. The image he promoted was ‘working for NZ’ which couldn’t be farther from the truth. Here in this article that thought is teased out a bit with the claim he is working for the 1%.

The wealthy. All escaping the carnage they’ve created abroad, John’s happy for them to hide out here with their wealth, offering great corporate tax breaks, the new Switzerland, whilst our own smaller biz people go the harder route. Of course this behaviour’s all old hat now the TPPA deal’s been signed by yours truly who also says he’s forging ahead regardless, ratified or not, definitely borne out by the fascist tactics employed in his recent roadshow ‘hearing’ what the people think aka telling us what they plan to do, the familiar tune we’re hearing up and down the country these days. We are asked our opinion after the fact, given two ticky boxes to choose from and expected to believe we’ve ‘had a say’! (I feel a Tui ad coming on). By all accounts folks who tried to raise meaningful discussion were talked down.

Key wants to turn New Zealand into a haven for the 1%

There was an interesting article by Fran O’Sullivan in last weekend’s Herald about John Key’s ambitions for New Zealand.  O’Sullivan may not be liked by some lefties but she writes perceptively and provides insight into National Party thinking that no other journalist does.

The headline suggests that Key wants to make New Zealand the Switzerland of the South but a closer reading shows that he does not want to make it a place where everyone is prosperous, educated and healthy.  Rather he wants to make New Zealand a bolt hole for the overseas rich.

“John Key is positioning New Zealand as an Asia-Pacific “Switzerland” – a beautiful and wealthy bolthole for high net-worthers seeking to escape from an unstable world.

Key believes that free-flowing terrorism is here to stay. To the Prime Minister, this simply makes New Zealand more attractive and will result in more high net-worth consumers wanting to come here – a theme he is developing in business briefings.

There is another strand to this developing Key mantra.

He is frankly unapologetic about the massive increase in Auckland residential property values, which has resulted in many established Aucklanders becoming relatively rich, but younger people being locked out of the market. It is a trend which is not going to stop anytime soon, given the immigration figures.”

So Key wants to attract more wealthy people to New Zealand as the rest of the world implodes.
