The leader of the coronavirus vaccine team at Oxford University boasted Tuesday that the public will not return to normal until at least next summer.
Professor Andrew Pollard said that face masks and social distancing rules are here with us to stay for the foreseeable future, declaring that a vaccine is still months away and would only become available for key workers during the first phase of its rollout.
“Life won’t be back to normal until summer at the earliest. We may need masks until July,” Pollard said during a seminar with Oxford alumni.
“If we end up with a vaccine that’s effective in preventing the disease, that is by far the best way to control the virus. But in the medium term, we’ll still need better treatments,” the professor cautioned.

On July 19, 2017, I posted an article relative to the direction the world was blowing. What I didn’t know then was that things were already well advanced.
I had stopped writing from 2010, pretty much, thru 2016 because my hands had become so crippled. I had seen a neuro-psychologist who recommended I go back to writing and that I should also take a drug by the name of Aricept.
I periodically experienced what I called word-abysses and could not remember a word. More significantly, I could not verbalize any concept relative to a word, so no replacements were available to my lips.
A simple example could be tree [although the usual words were more complex]:

Extreme global poverty is expected to rise in 2020 for the first time in over 20 years due to the disruption caused by the “extraordinary” coronavirus crisis, the World Bank has warned.
According to a new report, the Covid-19 pandemic is expected to push an additional 88 million to 115 million people into extreme poverty this year, with the total rising to as many as 150 million by 2021, depending on the severity of the economic contraction.
Extreme poverty, defined as living on less than $1.90 a day, is likely to affect between 9.1 percent and 9.4 percent of the world’s population this year, it said. That would represent a regression to the rate of 9.2 percent in 2017. Had the pandemic not convulsed the globe, the poverty rate was expected to drop to 7.9 percent in 2020

Since I started this blog last March, some of the least recognized concerns with the efforts to limit COVID-19 are the inadvertent mental and physical health problems suffered from the mitigations. The total shut down of work places and schools have yielded children not getting routine vaccines, parents losing jobs, people becoming more likely to have substance abuse and an increase in domestic violence. These issues have not received the same media attention as the push for protective measures, but are important and should not be overlooked.
Several alternatives to total shutdowns have been propose. One approach that has gained interest is to isolate and protect those individuals at highest risk while doing more measured precautions to allow reasonable activity by everyone else. The figures emerged as seven countries, including the UK, published a statement on Sunday warning of the impact of end-to-end encryption on public safety online.
