Not to take anything away fro this determined patient … but most able bodied people have little understanding of spinal injury.
The spinal chord is like coaxial cable tv cable. A big plastic sheath over an inner cord.
When a person has an auto accident etc. and breaks their back the big determination for their future is if the outside was damaged or the whole thing (under the plastic sheath)..
The “miracle” results are always coming from people who had the inside part intact or mostly intact and the media reports about them recovering through “determination” and “bravery” is greatly insulting to all the people with greater injury who have no such results.

I ran into a woman a mos. older than me who got polio and was in a wheelchair. She told me all the polio research dropped dead when they got the famous vaccine. It left all people like her in limbo because when they die the problem is “over”.
Very very interesting on the polio topic too. Was not until I became friends with a disabled person myself my eyes began to open to the daily issues they face that the able bodies simply take for granted.
ya kidding!! OMG!! that’s awful. Yes my friend, whenever I suggested going anywhere the first question was ‘is there stairs or steps?’… I soon learned.
Its good he got the care, treatment and support he needed and needs.
The other points to look at is how Dr Grossman as an insured patient /DR (VIP) the US medical system treated him, he got Spinal cord injury care, treatment and support, as he said he got to tell medical staff what to do when they were not doing it right.
In NZ our failed systems ( MOH DHBs and ACC, MSD ) routinely let people with SCI down.

If all people with SCI got the same care, treatment, support I am sure in NZ we would have better outcomes.But we have our Drs under the spell of and in the pockets of the Govt Ministry and ACC. And the Govt MOH and ACC medical monopoly does not like disabled people.

Thanks for that insight FC. Seems to be we don’t really dig into these details until they affect us directly or affect a loved one.

oh, don’t even get me goin’ on airlines …. they make the wheelchair people go in as FREIGHT … with the food(!) ….
