I think Trump’s stance to Nato is “if you want all this weaponry then you can pay for it, under me America isn’t going to any more”. He wants good relations with Russia unlike Nato bosses and the American political establishment — they need a concocted enemy (Russia) to justify their armaments spending, hence the witchhunt he’s been subjected to.
Actually, there is more to it than one might think. Putin stopped the looting of Russia that went on during the 1990s (while Yeltsin was in power). The western banks and Wall Street interests hate him for that.
